Just a reminder to all.
The England v Guernsey match will take place at the Inland Revenue club after the Sussex Masters starting approximately 5pm.
Guernsey are bringing over 9/10 players to take us on "Off The Spot". There will be 5 Doubles matches (best of 4 games), followed by 9 Singles matches (best of 2). All matches are 1 point per leg & 1 point per aggregate score, a total of 52 points up for grabs.
At the moment, the 9 singles matches will be contested by - Kt, Paul Sainsbury, Steve Mariner, Mark Turner, Nigel Senior, Phil Collins, Steven Sheard, Geoff Jukes & Tony Walsh(awaiting confirmation tonight). The other 4 players will be playing in the Pairs, namely - Chris Saville, Dennis Atkins, Chris Reeves & Leon Beer.
So if you haven`t got anything better to do, then come along and support the England team (or Guernsey). We will always welcome your support, barracking, banter or whatever else you want to do.
See you there

Cheers Steve,
Had a blonde moment (must be worth tart points) was in 'erself's car. a diesel and filled the darn thing with unleaded, didn't get much further.
Eventually got towed home and have had enough for tonight, will drain the tank in the morning, hopefully no damage (apart from pride) done.
Not how I wanted to finish my England career as I won't get enough points now I'm not spending hours travelling to opens on my own,
Good luck to the team.
Sav.

Oh Sav, shame you did not make it....
The result in brief - hopefully KT wil provide full details later,
England took a 17-3 lead after the 4 doubles matches.
The 9 singles matches finished 20-7 to England, making the final score 37-10.
Guernsey were not disgraced and won two of the 9 singles matches 2-1, and I look forward (if picked) to playing them in Guernsey next year.

Very well done to the Guernsey lads in securing 2 victories out of the 13 matches. As you can see by the scores, the tables weren`t easy Off the Spot. Several of the games were still in the balance nearing the bars, so the visitors could have sneaked a couple more.
A really good weekend , starting off with the friendly at the Three Horseshoes on Friday & finishing with the Open yesterday. I am also looking forward to going back to Guernsey next year if selected ;)

I have to ask but what rules were you playing becuase for an international match I thought the scores would have been much higher. Was it off the spot or Jersey rules or tricky tables that kept the scores down ?

Was it off the spot or Jersey rules or tricky tables that kept the scores down ? All internationals are played off the spot which is the main factor for the low scores. However, I would also say that the tables were quite tricky.

Hi Many thanks from the Guernsey boys for an excellent weekend. We would have liked to have won a few more points but a Nigel has pointed out the tables were quite tricky and the English boys adapted better. Hopefully the match result will be reversed in Guernsey next year.
A special thanks to the LadyH and SirKT for picking us up on Friday and organising an excellent Friday night challenge at the Three Houseshoes.

Hi Many thanks from the Guernsey boys for an excellent weekend. We would have liked to have won a few more points but a Nigel has pointed out the tables were quite tricky and the English boys adapted better. Hopefully the match result will be reversed in Guernsey next year. A special thanks to the LadyH and SirKT for picking us up on Friday and organizing an excellent Friday night challenge at the Three Horseshoes. Just a quick line to second Bob's thanks for the competitive opposition at the International and the goodwill and encouragement shown to the second placed team. No doubt the anti "off the spot" brigade will home in on the comparatively low scores in some of the games. However us Channel Islanders will always maintain there is just as much skill involved in potting a difficult ball with an off the cushion shot, rather than getting it direct if the black peg is blocking it and you can get out of the shot by moving the ball around the D. I know this statement will be controversial, however this debate will always go on as long as the two versions of the game and differently set up tables exist. Long may it last. Congratulations to all the winners and all the organizers for a memorable Open and we hope to be back next year with a few notable absentees to give it another go. Hope to see you all in Jersey in November - liver permitting.
