Redhill A 5 Brighton B 2
Geoff 8350 Chelle 2480 Denise 5680 Alan 3830 John 5830 Jean 2240 Dave 8200 Marcus 1190 DC 2050 Stuart 6650 Colin 1460 Bella 3370 Gary 6540 Mark 3280
First up Geoff a d Michelle. Mr dependable on with the break but off on 1I missed split. Chelle unable to capitalize Plenty of goes. Geoff next to get the balls back but off on another whipped split. Half way and scores pretty even Geoff Gets them back and third time lucky. Yes at last 7k and touch.
Game 2 Denise and big al. Alan making the early running took a reasonable lead but Denise fought back well. Tit for tat For a while and alan regained the lead .Denise break back and with a great break played to the bar and touch 2-0
3rd on Jean and yours truly. Jean struggling a bit off early and a chance for me but only a couple of grand. A frame of Small breaks continued until Jean got them back. Fearing the worst Jean gave me a last chance and 3k and tap was enough.
Game 4 and Chippers and DJ. Marcus hoping to stop the rot but Dave's break. Dave off unusually quick but Chippers not getting Going. One thing you can't do is give Jonesy to many chances .That was it a couple of decent visits and game and match 4-0
Next on DC and Stuart. Stu going along nicely but off on split. Dave chasing the break but couldn't get going. Stuart playing Some steady stuff done enough to run out a good winner.
Colin and Bella next and a right scrappy game with neither player getting going like DC colin couldn't get them back. Bella Making the most of her way home 4-2
Last up Mark and Gary. Gaz off with a few took a good lead but mark made a fight of it. Things pretty tight but Gary balls back Made a decent couple of breaks and won the lucky last.
A lovely evening with the Brighton Boys and girls as always. A few legs could have gone either way but a great win for us. League is in our own hands.

Well, what an evening of bar billiards. I have very little words to describe the events of tonight - but I shall do my best. At the start of the evening the travelling contingent arrived in good spirit - first we had Tom's terrific table tips for the night "dunno, never played it" and then Michael - in one of his I don't care moods - made a rather bold bet. "If any one wins in one visit, I'll buy the whole team a drink." Little did Michael know that this was the safest one-way bet made in the history of betting. In the first frame some stuff happened. A high break between the pair of about 1k, balls spinning out of the back like a carousel on steroids and pegs being felled at a regular rate - mostly due to the Mr. Whippy pockets. They were so annoying that they wouldn't even offer a 99 to go with the whip. Anyway Barry won because he scored more than Alex. 0-1. Last time out Martin P had been felled at first drop for the first time ever, so he was much more cautious when asked what his record was at number two. "I always lose playing second except when I don't." Yep, everyone can agree with that. This frame followed the same pattern as the first, and Martin won after playing out the last eight balls to finish. Fritz was keen to get a publishable quote from our victor for this weeks report but drew a blank. Michael therefore went hunting for some tips and Martin helpfully gave him the following tip, that he had "No tips". Magic. 1-1. Now you may have taken a glance at the score for the third game and expect some sort of horror show and for the mystery author of this report and for them to go off on one about how terrible things were. However Michael was the only person to even look slightly comfortable all night. 4.5k into his opener he decided that his opponents name was Chris Cox and so gently nudged the white peg over. He continued to clear balls fairly comfortably at the back of the table - but didn't get the break back until Andy ploughed through a peg and gave it to him. He immediately missed and didn't know why - perhaps he swallowed a fly? A black peg late on (followed by several more white pegs) while chasing gave a fat zero to the only person to pass a 2.1k break on the night. Tragic. 1-2. Next up Tom decided that, despite seeing the balls fly out of the pockets at the back of the table at a million trillion miles an hour, to play his shots as if he was playing in a mud bath with granite balls. It was an impressive sight seeing the balls fizzing round the table and once again into the pegs. Captain Fritz tried to encourage his player saying to him "can you try?" Tom was clearly to hear this encouraging remark, saying "you ain't f***ing played yet". This was a clear reference to the fact that the table was not to anyone's liking from either team - someone quipped "I think there are more pegs than there are holes". Not amused by the fact the holes were very much there but were constantly chucking their babies as far away as possible a little birdie replied "there are certainly more pegs than clean holes!" Thankfully the frame came to an end and we recieved another top notch terrific table tip from Tom: "That is literally all you need on that table - luck." 1-3. At this point the players tucked into a luxury buffet which consisted of a delicious sausage product that contained a mixture of minced pork, spices, apricot and nuts baked in a crispy pastry roll and a delightful Schrödingers dessert which was both biscuit and cake with a punchy, zesty orange centre. After Fritz had stolen all the Jaffacakes and Michael had demolished the sausage rolls the match eventually started again. Next up Anita was on, and while Fritz was eyeing up a twenty-third Jaffacake he mused "I've got the body of an athlete". Tom, never missing such a golden opportunity, immediately piped in saying "you've got a body of a god..." At this point Martin G and Tom got the punchline in unison... "A Buddha". In other news the table was further complimented with an anonymous player (i.e. not Tom) saying "when you've got a table as s*** as that of course you've got a chance". Tom then piped in with some calming words "it's the definition of f***ing whippy." 1-4. Another two frames were played, and the same story continued. Other than the mighty Jobbins finishing off his frame with 2.1k, there were no breaks over 1.5k, barely any even over 1k. Pegs were being knocked down like they were prime real estate in central London and the pockets, well, they were still furiously spitting balls all over the place. Fritz and Martin G were condemned to defeats and as the visitors made their way to their cars Tom was on hand to summarise the night... he asked his teammates hopefully "has anyone got some anti-depressants?"

Lewes 4 - 3 Worthing B
Ric Bithell * 3750 - 1020 Alan Mepham. Rick one up behind, Alan unable to clear balls, Rick did 3 times one of which he put the one up behind but kept adding to his score to open the scoring for the home team.
Richard Todd 4720 - 2590 James Whittle *. James opened with 2k, Richard kept chipping away at the lead and built a 500 lead, James eventually got the balls back about 800 behind and 1.5 minutes left but bad contact left both balls up and Richard made sure.
Hugh Lincoln 890 - 4350 Paul Barnett *. Paul opened with around 2k and with Hugh unable to get the balls back Paul added another couple of breaks to keep Worthing in the match.
Colin Southouse * 8400 - 460 Dave Jones. Colin 4 breaks and Dave unable to retrieve the break so 3 - 1 to the home side.
Trevor Rees 1790 - 4250 Roger Taylor *. Roger 1.5k opener, both struggled at the top but Roger increased his lead, Trevor break back but off at 1k, Trevor next to get them back and going well when miscued on the break and missed the red altogether leaving Roger to pull one back for Worthing.
Chase Newman 3340 - 4440 Rick Cunningham *. Game of the evening Rick opening well with 2k, Chase break back 1200, Rick balls back and increased his lead, Chase another chance but off at 2k, Rick made sure to take the game to a decider.
Dave Knight * 2020 - 1130 Tony Jenner. Dave off at 1300 then both players struggled to keep much score and both looking as though they didn`t want to win, this due to some spin outs poor shots and inept efforts from the Worthing captain. Just as it looked neither would get the break back lo and behold the Worthing captain found himself with the break 700 behind and 1 minute left, game over, but no the wrong TJ was out tonight and proceeded to put the white in front of the 50 and spin the red out of the other 50 therefor scoring a big fat nil on the break. Dave accepted the win with the comment well that was a poor game.
Well done to Lewes and thank you for a good evening. The Worthing captain was lucky his team did not tar and feather him after that performance but then again I suppose after all these years they know what to expect.

Worthing A 4-3 Brighton A **Terry Molloy 13,320 - 120 Bob Osborne - Excellent opener from Molly enough, plenty of 10 splits, not so many 100 splits. Added some more as in form Bob did not get the balls back Martin Smith 6920 - 5730 Jim Millward** - Jim not at his best still managed to play a great saving shot when the ball was bang behind the 10 but got nothing. Martin got them back and managed to play it out to the bar, plenty of 10 splits, not so many 100 splits, think there were a couple of "shot Ians/Stu" amongst them too Gary Ridley 5060 - 9250 Bob Hall** - excellent opener from Bob, making enough first visit, plenty of 10 splits, not so many 100 splits. Good reply from Gary to the bar **Joe Oakley 1280 - 12,560 Nigel Senior - Joe pegged after a dodgy one up, great reply and touch from Nige, opposite of the previous legs with Nige making good use of the 100 split Kevin Tunstall 8970 - 8190 Matthew Knight** - Missed one split on the way to my score but that was costly as off up the back a shot or two later. Think it got to 5 missed splits from Kev, still thought he would get them, and, of course he did in a high scoring leg, cue a rant... Stuart Mepham 20 - 7980 Chris Tupper** - excellent opener from Tupps, too many for Stu who had no chance **Mike Daw 6870 - 3600 Phil Osborne - Expected plenty to go behind as the table downhill but this was the only leg it happened. Mike's opening 4k enough in a nervy decider with 3 breaks each 4 away players went off with 7.9k or more and we still lost! Well done to the hosts on their win
