Redhill B | 4 | v | 3 | Littlehampton | Martin P* | 1420 | - | 1470 | Eric | Tom | 830 | - | 12060 | *Chris | Fritz | 8560 | - | 3860 | *Steve | Michael* | 5560 | - | 2320 | John | Martin G | 1080 | - | 4470 | *Colin | Joe* | 7480 | - | 3700 | Dave | Alex | 1 | - | 0 | No Player |
This fixture could be key in determining who will come second in the home and away interleague come May time, and Redhill started with an immediate advantage as Littlehampton could only muster six players. (As I don't know the reason for this, I'll make one up) This was because the rest of their team didn't fancy the long trip up to Redhill - it's at high altitude you see, not enough air for 14 people. 1-0. At the top of Salford mount the mighty Martin P opened up. Martin is very proud of his record of never ever losing at number one, so despite coming off on just over 1k he was still confident. Eric struggled to settle but luckily for him Martin decided to go to the woods with his axe, he was chopping timber down left, right and centre. Yes, I mean he decided to strike down the black peg. Eric was still struggling to get the break back - despite his finest Richie Burnett impressions, and it looked like Martin would rise from the dead as he moved 490 points up with a minute or so to go. Captain Fritz had already called the game an epic and so it was, Eric was busy clearing the balls and the bar went. A successful clear and with four balls left he stood 200 behind! Both whites went in, meaning Eric needed the 1-up and 100 to win. His judgement could not have been better, as one white flew into the 50 and the other stood to attention on the lip! By this point Martin could only pray, but Eric put pay to that 100% record with a well judged 100 shot to steal the first frame. 1-1. Next up Chris was in no mood to give Tom a sniff. He took to the table like a duck to water and waded away from Tom with ease - his opening break of 8k in ~11 mins was enough for the leg. Before Chris could think he was back at it to add another 2.9k and get to the five figure mark. Tom could easily have been cheesed off at this point, which is an issue because as he said "cheese is physically addictive". In fact not only this, but he had a friend who "became vegan and got withdrawal symptoms!" Madness, all that can be said is hopefully Tom doesn't get cheesed off too regularly, otherwise we may never break away from such a debilitating illness. 1-2. At this point Redhill could have been in danger, so Fantastic Mr. Fritz put himself on against Steve. In the reverse fixture Steve had been a victim to some cruel luck against Tom, but after his opening salvo of 2.4k Fritz didn't give him a shot. 8.3k and touch was enough for the leg, although he came off without knowing the time situation. This baffled on lookers as the timer was running about five inches from his standing position. Hey ho. 2-2. So having won against the break all Redhill needed was to hold their remaining two breaks to win. Michael was the first to go for this and he opened with 5.2k, his last shot being agonisingly close to a peg as a white crept from the back of the table and stopped in such a place that it could have a long snog with the peg. John did get the balls back but Michael had made enough and, despite not getting the balls back and adding very little more to his opener, the victory was fairly comfortable in the end. 3-2. With Alex having a bye, you'd have thought he'd have plenty of time to collect the evenings pizzas, so the next game was delayed for food. However after five minutes the usually impatient Fritz got impatient and decided to start the next game. As you'd expect it was as soon as Colin put the pound in the slot that Alex strode in - too late - so the poor pizzas had to sit and watch a leg before they could be demolished. Colin was off with 500, a remarkably thin split attempt went wrong and the meritous Martin G stepped up to the plate. The initial phase was scrappy, and the table was soon loaded, just like the onlooking pizzas, but Martin cleared and set about getting a score on the board. He was going well at 1.9k when he managed to play an incredible shot, one white went down the RH 30 and as it was spinning the other white rolled into it. This then sent it off at lightning speed and it crashed through the LH peg! Quite astounding and terribly unlucky, he certainly hadn't merited that. Colin then set about adding 2k and held on to that lead to the finish. 3-3. So, the decider. Joe had the break and he'd clearly taken advice from Michael - a pretty serene 5.5k then stalled unexpectedly. It was a good start though and Dave couldn't get it back. Joe moved the balls into a nice position to clear and he was encouraged by his teammates. "Go on, one good shot!" was the call. That was shortly followed by "That wasn't it" - that's the support we all need. Joe added a couple of k more to make sure of the leg and consequently the match for Redhill. 4-3. So a good evening with Littlehampton, and it was one where the mighty Martin Ps 100% record was broken, hopefully next time he won't play with "the wrong end of the cue". Yeh, I think we all agree with you there Martin.

Why did Joe have the break, no rules in inter league covering the breaks changing due to 6 players??

Mid Sussex 5 - 2 Worthing B
Barry West * 5630- 1450 Paul Barnett Paul Moyes-Robb 2420- 1130 James Whittle * Andy Farmer-Wright 1910- 4310 Rick Cunningham * Derek Taylor * 3870- 3550 Roger Taylor * Ros Appleby 2750- 2540 Dave Jones * Paul Jobbins 2350- 3440 Alan Mepham * Mick Kirwan * 3900- 3650 Tony Jenner
Many close nights on an evening of low scores, with only 2 breaks over 3k which meant a competitive a close match with many games only decided at the last minute.
Paul Barnetts evening started badly when driving up he went down a pot hole which resulted in a flat tyre and possible damaged wheel, Paul called the AA on arrival and with an estimated time of 7.55 for them to arrive I had to change all my plans and put Paul on a 1. The AA git the problem sorted enough to follow Paul home so he had gone by the third game. Barry played a good leg compiling 3 breaks to make sure and record the best score of the evening.
James off early, Paul likewise and then it was a battle at the top of the table until Paul got them back late on and made sure.
Rick off at 1K and Andy likewise, Rick first to get them back and built a winning lead.
Derek opened with 2k and built a 3k lead with Roger getting no luck at the top of the table. Roger did get them back with time enough left, Roger closed the gap but with the bar due he was off and Derek cleared up to take the leg.
Dave having trouble hitting the break hard enough was off early but first to get the back but had the same trouble. Ros balls back and built a steady 2.5k break to level the scores with the bar down. Dave unable to get over the line letting Ros clear up to ensure a team win for Mid Sussex
Alan opened with a very good 3k break and with Paul having no run of the balls at the top end that was enough as Paul only got the break back late on.
Mick started with just under 2k, TJ balls back but straight off. Mike added another 1k before TJ got them bac, going well with 3k break but off with the winning post in sight. Both Mick and Tony tried their best not to win by a variety of poor shots and unlucky double kisses before Mick made sure.
A good night at Mid Sussex with plenty of friendly banter.

West Sussex 4 - 3 Lewes
Competitive game at the Prince Martin Cole with a 6k break to the bar in the deciding legto snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Tough on Dave knight who played the table far better than most on the night.

Tunbridge Wells 3 Worthing A 4 Great result for us, table played really well
Pete 9850 v 4700 Gary - good 9k opener from Pete, Gary finished off Martin 1310 v 15210 Joe - a superb 10k from Joe, adding another 5k for good measure Brian S 0 v 11680 Mike - a slight hiccup from Mike losing his opening 2k but was straight back on with a good clearance and 9k bk Richard 11390 v 2910 Molly - Rich opened with 5k and gave Terry a good chance which he didn’t take, two more bks for Rich Fitz 2100 v 14080 KT - a casual 3rd bk shot went past the left side of the 50 hole for me , played a good recovery but another bk shot came inside a while later, again cleared well to make 10k Curt 3330 v 9620 Martin - once Martin settled he found the table well to make his 9k giving Curt no chance Ian W 9440 v 1060 Chocie - two breaks from Ian in the lucky last with a chance for Stu in between
As always, a good night with these boys and a nice spread after. And Martin discovered alcohol free Guinness , not bad he said 😉

Brighton A 3-4 Redhill A
A topsy-turvy rearranged game at the Stag last night with some excellent play mixed with some not such good stuff
**Nigel Senior 26,570 - 0 Colin Robbins - Nigel still trying to beat Joe's break, still failing but still getting closer. Still an awesome break (and score), missed a couple of 50s on the split and lost time getting them back. Got a nice round of applause afterwards
Bob Hall 6360 - 8440 Geoff Jukes** - Geoff off very early, Bob got them straight back and was going well again over 6k before leaving a tricky one up and off soon after. Geoff got them back, nice break but missed with about 90 seconds to go, Bob had a chance to get them back but didn't, the visitors off the mark. Know Bob was kicking himself
Phil Osborne 6820 - 9980 Dave Jones** - Dave admitted himself he was never comfortable but battled really hard making enough first visit. Phil a rapid reply to the bar
**Kevin Hall 3740 - 9770 Denise Wills - Kev a rapid 3k and off, Denise an excellent 9.5k and touch to give the visitors a good advantage
Jim Millward 10,640 - 5280 Gary Powell** - Gary off early, Jim got them straight back, looking in awesome form with 10k and touch. Gaz finished off
Matthew Knight 5310 - 4530 John Slee** - John off early, I got them straight back, what followed was the worst performance ever to win a leg, sorry John
So from 3-1 down the hosts got it back to 3-3 and decider time
**Chris Tupper 1910 - 4800 Dave Constable - Tupps easily to 3k then missed a ball and it was downhill after that. Dave had a couple of breaks but kept his head to give Redhill a vital win
Well done to Redhill on their win, not surprisingly it was nervy at times. Excellent company as always, they are now in pole position to win the League
