A big well done to Martin for winning the Kent Open yesterday. I think it’s prob the highest scoring final I’ve been involved in . I ran the table out for 21,800 in the first leg and Martin got just over k23 to take the win.
A big thanks to all those that helped to make the weekend happen, especially to Pete on the Admin desk.

Congratulations to Martin Cole who won yesterday beating Curt in the final. Could we have some more details please Can't tell you much about the main comp but on the way to winning the plate I got a bye to the QFs where I squeezed past Pete Sainsbury on (tricky) table 1 building a lead on his break game (leg 1) and slowly increasing that in the second leg to around 7k at which point Pete conceded. The excitement then came in the semi-final where I won the toss and opted to go first against Alan Donavan only to regret that decision a mere handful of shots into my opening break. Alan built a decent lead with a, maybe 7k, break then let me in after leaving both balls short on the one-up. I got the break back but soon broke down again leaving Alan to finish off. Alan had a 9k lead at the end of the leg but only made around 2.5k on his opening break in the second leg again leaving the ball short on the one-up. I got the break back and made no mistake this time with a near run out of the remaining time/balls for 14k. Onto the plate final where I met Gary Powell. He won the toss and put me in and I was going well until on 11,800 I broke down. Gary came back with 3,800 so going into the second leg I had an 8k lead. Gary kicked off with around 5k before letting me in and I came back with 5k of my own. I'd broken down rather than touched up but the damage was done and Gary conceded. Would always want to progress further in the main competition but content with the plate on this occasion - don't think I was on 20k-form several of which were made up to and including the main comp final. Congrats to Silent on his first 20k break and to Martin Cole on his first county open win.

High quality day of bar billiards on excellent tables (with the exception of table 1), well done to Pete Sainsbury and his team on providing such good tables and overcoming the traffic delays that meant a few people turned up late. Plenty of 20k breaks, pleased that I finally managed to get my first one (thank you for all the support) although I needed to go a damn sight quicker as Mark T breezed past it on the way to the highest break of the day - 24,960
Both players were superb in the final with Curt setting an imposing target with a perfect 21k break then tapping a few 50s after the bar had gone. Martin had one very brief excursion but was still in front on the clock when getting the balls back and kept his cool, timing his reply to perfection and winning his first county open to go with his All England title and the Guernsey Open a few years ago, well done mate
Well done to Martin Smith on winning the Plate making it another good day for Sussex players
Unfortunately there were a few dropouts, some very late which was a shame, disappointing to see many players leave straight after they were knocked out thus meaning those that do stay are left with all the scoring. Be nice to see those knocked out scoring in the next series of games?

Just to echo what others have said - a top day of bar billiards. Thanks to Pete Sainsbury for running a superb day.
Great stuff from Martin to win it, played no miss bar billiards to beat Matt Jones, Mark Trafford and Curt Driver in succession so it doesnt get much tougher than that. Hard luck to Curt, but good to see he had his big scoring boots on....
Well done to matt on his 20k break, I said he would do it when he needed it, although he did need a bit more to beat Traff! Nonetheless he has got his 20k shirt on the way.
Well done to Smithy also to win the plate and thanks to him also for giving me and Chelle a lift home!
