The home table was not at its best for this match and most people struggled a little with the basics. It helped if you had a bit of luck, or if your name was Colin. Colin S resorted to playing the southpaw break shot, opening with a 5k break that proved enough to win. Colin G played aggressively, bullying the table into submission, including one remarkable shot early in his opening break that sent a ball spinning out of the 20 hole and dropping neatly into the 200! The rest of us plodded along as best we could.

West Sussex 4 - 3 Mid Sussex
No scores to hand, but the home team taking the vital game against the break in leg 3 to take the match, 2 very good away performances in legs 6,7

Worthing B 3 - 4 Redhill B
A good night with the Redhill lads and lassies as usual, with the table playing well but you did have to be a tad careful as the white ball tended to move back on the spot on the break, so it did catch a few out moving just as you played the shot, caution the order of the day.
1) James Whittle * 4320 - 3540 Tom Pearce. James off at 2k, Tom balls back going ok but missed a ball behind the 10 losing his score, James balls back but lost his score, Tom 2 breaks to lead by 500 with the bar due, James balls back and with cries of nothing silly from behind him reverted to the 50s to make a telling 1400 and a win.
2) Alan Mepham 2180 - 3880 Martin Pellett *. Martin off at 1.4k, Alan balls back off at 900. Some lost scores before Martin balls back and made sure with 2k break, Alan balls back and played the time out.
3) Neil Higgins 2010 -6480 Mark Fraser *. Mark looking comfortable on the break but off at 3.5k, play at the back of the table for a time with Neil getting no run of the balls at all, Mark first to get them back adding enough, Neil eventually got them back too late.
4) Rick Cunningham * 3240 - 1330 Martin Greenway. Rick off at 1k and then lots of chances for him and Martin but both contrived to lose scores with Rick managing to keep more than Martin to level the game.
5) Dave Jones 920 - 10740 Michael Wilson *. Michael off at 1400, good opportunity for Dave but unable to get the balls back, Michael added 6k + and then a few more at the end to pass the 10k mark.
6) Pete Hickman 4080- 6500 Alex Hornby *. With the home captain pondering which way to go and electing to go with Pete who had to watch Alex open with 6300 and touch. Bit off play at the top before Pete got the balls back with just over 6 minutes left, he took a bit of time to find the pace of the break but was still on time passing the 3k mark, left one up slightly higher and after some deliberation of whether to play the 100 or the 10 sort of went in between missing both balls so game over, good effort from Pete and a nice opener from Alex.
7) Tony Jenner * 14380 - 0 Anita Blackman. I was ultra cautious as made sure the white ball was spotted on the break so a steady 14380 near play out by me, leaving Anita 4 balls, but she decided to shake hands but did not want another drink when I offered.
Thank you to Kat and Steve for hosting and the lovely roast pork sandwiches. One more game to go away to Littlehampton to end what must be the poorest season of home and away inter-league for Worthing B but sure we will be back again next season to try and put that right.

Good report from TJ, table played beautifully - helped by the fact that the back of the table essentially had five buckets. White coming off the spot definitely caught a few people out, Martin almost pegging his opener twice due to the ball moving as he hit it and my opener ended as the ball rolled off its spot.
Must also mention that, despite there being no light in the Gents, The Gardeners have the best toilets in any establishment ever. Being a bit of a train buff the conversion of the end of a Mk3 coach had me fascinated - I'd have happily made the trip just for that!!
I believe we (Redhill) are two points clear of Lewes in the race for second, but if they beat Mid Sussex and we lose to the champs I think they will jump past us - so very much game on in the race for best of the rest!

Brighton B 1 Worthing A 6
Knowing we had to win big, I had to take a chance on winning the Home teams break games
Alan 3320 v 12900 KT Jim 3090 v 5030 Joe Jean 2890 v 5650 Terry Moppy 3520 v 4060 Ian Chelle 1540 v 11640 Chocie Bella 110 v 10890 Roger Stu 6160 v 5270 Martin
Table was playing very tricky early on, once it warmed up the scores improved. So just a 7-0 needed against Redhill A in the last game 😮🤪

Tunbridge Wells 3-4 Brighton A **Peter Sainsbury 12,460 - 1240 Bob Osborne - very good opener from Pete gave Bob no chance Gerry Fitzjohn 6410 - 6430 Matthew Knight** - After an early miss I built a 6k lead, very good clearance from Gerry and he set about the chase with a mixture of 10 and 100 splits. Bar dropped a few seconds early with Gerry pretty much level but with 3 balls left he decided to play a 50/10 with 2 whites, got them and left himself the 100 to win (but only 180 in front). He missed the 100 and I sunk the 200 clean first time Kyle Ingram 3470 - 9970 Bob Hall** - Bob still looking in good form, easily to over 6k and annoyed to come off. Kyle pegged and Bob made enough next visit before Kyle finished off **Richard Corbould 13,010 - 1840 Phil Osborne - Early excursion from Richard, spent a little time chasing a ball at top, got them back and made a very good 9k break, little chance for Phil Bryan Stevens 1190 - 6150 Grant Tully** "super sub" Grant managed to do what no-one else had done and left the red short on the break He did it twice and that was the only way he came off as in between he made a nice 5k break. Bryan had a chance but pegged and that was that Paul Sainsbury 130 - 13,830 Nigel Senior** - very steady 7.7k opener from Nige, took up about 9 minutes. Possible chance if Paul had got them back first time, he didn't and Nigel did to give us the match **Ian Wright 7940 - 0 Chris Tupper - Ian going well but missed a ball down the middle looking to keep his score. Tupps very unfortunate to get nothing as played a top shot. Ian got them back and a very good near 7k for the win Enjoyable night with our hosts, plenty of good natured banter. Table playing well, we had some problems finishing legs off but got there in the end. Leg 2 obviously the pivotal leg. Ends a pretty underwhelming season for Brighton A. Let's hope we don't have to spend quite as many hours rearranging matches next season!
