Well done to Matt and our team a tremendous season with all contributing (yes even me) with a great team spirit and a steadying hand at the helm. Roller coaster game last night with the three break players doing well but as Matt I am sure will precise in his report not straightforward and drama to the last minute. Thank you to Matt, Rick, Chris, Joe and James for a fun season and giving an old codger something he never thought he would be part of a Brighton Premier League trophy and I believe all things being equal the team have all agreed to continue playing next season even the two old timers.

Moulscoomb Social Club 4 - 1 New Oak
Always going to be a deciding game tonight as the Master Mariner wanted us to lose. Sorry about that.
Martin 4030 - 930 Alan. Dave 5560 - 4420 Jean Tim 4090 - 2560 Stuart Colin 2140 - 6230 Sandra Phil 140 - BP Stuart (playing 4 member rule)
Martin got off to a good steady start but Alan found the holes kept moving about so only scored with 2 balls every time. Good win for Martin Dave got going early and Jean couldn't catch up as the game swung one way then the other. Not really helped by my mistake in the scoring. I do apologise, Jean Tim did really well, sealing the win and Stuart had almost as much difficulty with the moving holes as Alan did Colin was dreading his match and with good reason. Cocked up on the first break and Sandra just got hold of HIS table and threw it at him. I have never seen as many ways of trying for that 200 hole as we did in my match and that poor black peg took a hammering (especially from me). Stuart actually managed to get one but in the end I'm not sure if my score was 40 or 140 but it didn't matter as the black went flying up the table from Stuart.
Thanks for the games everyone and Alan won the £10 football money as we had sandwiches from the Club this week so no pizza.

So with 3 scenarios possible, the title going to the Blue Anchor, the Stags Head or a play-off, we visited the New Oak A who were undefeated at home going into the final match. Here's what happened:-
**Ian Lelliott 10,990 - 1730 Rick Cunningham - Ian a great opener making 10k and touch giving Rick no chance. There was one moment of anxiety for Ian when he missed the red to the left on the break (not the only time it happened during the evening) but a couple of excellent recovery shots got him back on track (1-0 to the Oak)
Phil Osborne 2590 - 7760 Matthew Knight** - neither of us at our best, I managed to miss the one up in front (it happened in other legs too, once with great significance) off at another point with a ropey shot. Phil could not get going at all, he pegged when he got the balls back and that allowed me back in to make a near 6k and touch to get us on the board (1-1)
Marcus Chipman 4330 - 7920 Chris Cox** - Chris off early, he missed the red to the left on the break as well and could not recover. Marcus pegged and Coxy in no mood to give Chippers another chance made an excellent 7.5k and touch to nudge us in front, Marcus made 4k to the bar (2-1 to the Blue Anchor)
We now had two chances to win knowing one more leg would give us the title. It also meant that even if we lost both legs we would, at least, have a play-off
**Bob Osborne 8460 - 2680 Tony Jenner - stuck to the plan of going for it in our 3 break games so TJ took on in form Bob against the break. Bob was off very early also putting the one up in front, excellent clear from Tony but, he also missed the break to the left and was off soon after. Bob then made an excellent 6.5k break to give the home team the leg and send the match to a decider (2-2)
So there we have it everything now on the line, the last leg in the 16th match of the season had everything riding on it. With the result known at the Stag, it meant, if we won the leg the title was ours
Seemed quite appropriate and somewhat ironic that Joe should take on Nigel in the decider, the friendly jousting and the battle for the Worthing High Break adding to their rivalry. Joe had told me all week that if he played Nige in the decider he would win....
Nigel Senior 6550 - 8350 Joe Oakley** - With all the pressure on him, Joe started off extremely well, I don't remember him missing a 100 split to 7k, unfortunately he left the red short on the break and could not get them back. Nige cleared them with a couple of great shots, he was going well, although he did have to play a few 10 splits and with Joe taking up plenty of time I did think it would be close on the clock. On just over 6k Nigel put the one up inside and there was a collective sigh of relief from the visitors both then and when Joe played two excellent shots to get them back. Just to add the drama Joe also then put his next one up in front but, by then it was too late. Really a brilliant performance from both players considering what was a stake (3-2 to the Blue Anchor)
By an extremely narrow margin we are Premier Division Champions, none of us have won it before so it means a lot. Thank you for all the kind posts and messages today. A captain is only as good as his team and I am very lucky with mine so thank you to Tony, Rick, Chris (pretty good achievement in your first full year with us Coxy) and Joe for your great performances all season. Thanks to James and Mike for stepping in when needed. Thank you, as always, Tony for all the driving you do, it is greatly appreciated. I know Krystal has enjoyed her nights out supporting the team too, not sure about the drives home though!
Thanks to everyone who played in the Brighton League this season, very sporting opposition especially last night but also the Stags Head who ran us extremely close, playing very well in their last few matches to give us a big scare. Bob did a great job for them when taking over in difficult circumstances, they were also the only team to beat us this season, just the 3 times!
Lots going on over the next few weeks, keep an eye out on here for further information and updates
