Hello,
Aware that the date for rule change proposals has passed. Not a rule change as such but could we have a discussion at the AGM,under AOB perhaps, regarding having a couple of nights set into the playing calendar which could be where we play early rounds of competitions.
Would hopefully avoid the position we currently find ourselves in on competitions and may also see a better uptake?

A rule change isn't necessary, but this has already been discussed at a committee meeting.
I intend to do this by adding 2 weeks in the fixtures first half for the opening rounds of the Singles & doubles which normally are the comps with the most entries.

The venue for the AGM has been changed to HHSC in the front bar due to the Function room at Hassocks being booked for another event.

Thanks to those that attended the AGM, all teams were represented.

A brief update,
The committee remains unchanged but with the addition of Dave Tiffin & return of Paul Moyes Robb as player members.

League fees remain at £30, It was proposed and agreed that Competition entry fees should be free for this season and reviewed at the next AGM.

The rule changes that were agreed will be published soon.

Rule changes that were agreed.

Proposed change to rule 16
Currently the rule is:
Any proposed amendments to the rules of the League must be submitted to the League secretary, in writing, not less than 14 days prior to the League Finals Night (as arranged by the Committee each year) so they may be made known to all members at that time.

As we now do not have a finals night the proposed new wording removes reference to finals night and asks for rule amendment proposals prior to the AGM. It would now read as follows:

Any proposed amendments to the rules of the League must be submitted to the League secretary, in writing, not less than 21 days prior to the AGM (as arranged by the Committee each year), to allow time for the proposals to be made known to members prior to the AGM.

Proposed change to playing rule 17

Currently the rule is:

The team having the highest number of points in its division shall be declared the champions. In the event of two or more clubs finishing level on points, the number of matches won will decide. If still equal, the position shall be decided by a replay. This rule shall also apply to teams finishing bottom of their division where a relegation issue needs to be decided.



The proposal is to add further clarification if teams are level on points and matches won. It is proposed to add after - If still equal,

then the number of legs won in both home and away matches counts. If still equal, the position shall be decided by a replay at a neutral venue decided by the committee.



Discussion to further clarify the rule, the words between the teams involved should be added after home and away



Proposed new wording would now read:

Proposed change to playing rule 23

There have not been any reported issues with the player short rule, so it would seem sensible to make the rule permanent. It is proposed to remove the following sentence from the rule:

This is intended as a temporary measure during the Covid19 pandemic and to be used up to half way in the season, but can be extended if the committee considers it appropriate for the conditions at that point.

Committee proposal to make this rule permanent. All agreed.




Proposal for change to Charity Cup rules

Currently the rules are as follows:

Due to there now being six games the match will start at 8.15pm.

All matches

1. All matches will consist of 4 singles and 2 doubles games requiring a minimum of 4 players per side.

2. The order of play will be 2 singles, 2 doubles, 2 singles.

3. The away team shall have the break in games 1, 3 and 5. The home team shall have the break in games 2, 4 and 6. In all games captains with first break will nominate first.

4. Handicapping will be used in all matches.

5. Should a black peg fall during a match the player’s handicap will not be eradicated.



Pool matches

6. In all pool matches, Captains will nominate player(s) prior to each game, the Away Captain will nominate first.

7. Final Pool positions will be decided on individual games won and, if necessary, total aggregate score.

Semi-finals and the final

Semi-final venues

The winners of pool 1 shall play the runners-up of pool 2 on the table of the winners of pool 2.

The winners of pool 2 shall play the runners-up of pool 1 on the table of the winners of pool

Should the venues as described above not be available, then the runner-up’s tables shall be used. Should this not be possible, a decision regarding venues shall be made by the committee.

In semi-finals and finals, the teams shall toss a coin before the start of matches to decide who shall be the Home and the Away sides. The Away side shall have the break in games 1, 3 and 5, the Home side shall have the break in games 2, 4 and 6. The team that has the break in each game shall nominate first.

In the semi-final and final if the result is 3-3 then the winner will be decided on the aggregate score.

In the event that the competition is played with more or less than the 2 pools referred to

elsewhere in the rules, then the committee shall decide on the best way of arranging the

fixtures.



The relevant parts of the rule for proposed changes are as follows:

Pool matches

6. In all pool matches, Captains will nominate player(s) prior to each game, the Away Captain will nominate first.

The proposed new wording for point 6 would remove the anomaly of the away Captain will nominate first.



Section 7 would remain but as currently the competition is played on a round robin basis the following section will be added:



A minimum number of 8 teams is required to use 2 pools of 4 teams. Any number below this then the competition will be played on a round robin basis, all play all, home and away. The team with the highest individual games won and, if necessary total aggregate score will be declared winners & 2nd place will be runners up.



Committee proposal. All agreed to both amendments.



The Proposal from Ros that the playing night should change to Tuesday nights was discussed, with Chase confirming that The Plough is closed on a Tuesday and this was unlikely to change.

Following the discussion RA stated that the proposal was put forward to debate the option and if circumstances change then maybe the League should discuss again, but at this time the proposal was withdrawn.
