County Championship 2023

Hi Everyone

This year’s championships will be made up of a combination mens and ladies teams (7 a side), each county has the right to send one mens side and one ladies side. Each county should state what sides they wish to send to participate no later than the 31 August.

After the 31 August if less than 14 teams have entered the remaining slots will be invited to be filled in the following order.

- A ladies select side (captain appointed by AEBBA committee) made up of players from counties that have not submitted a ladies side.
- B sides that are currently in Division 1 – (currently Sussex B)
- B sides invited in order as to where their A side finished in last years championships.

So can the following counties submit what sides (mens, ladies or both) they will be sending to Totteridge on 10 September (Division 1) and 17 September (Division 2) (the sooner the better please).

Teams that are definitely in Division 1 are Sussex A, Kent, Bucks, Oxon, Surrey (and Sussex B if invited). The rest of the teams that played last year may be invited to play in Division 1 depending on numbers of teams Sussex Ladies & Berkshire. There is a max of 14 slots to fill, but the balance of the divisions will be decided once all the entries are in.

If any of Northants, Notts, Hants, Cambs, Suffolk, Yorkshire, Jersey, Guernsey want to enter let me know. Hants, Cambs, Jersey, Guernsey have to pay affiliation fees if they wish to enter AEBBA comps. Affiliation fees are £30.

Not really my place to say, but AFAIAA  there will definitely be a Surrey A and possibly also a further Surrey team.

Hopefully Tony will confirm shortly.

Sorry, there will be no Surrey B after all.

Have tried my best (after originally only offering to make the numbers up).
But too many away on holiday and I have had a total of nine refusals !!!

Congratulations to Kent who won the County Championships yesterday for their first win since 2017.

It was a very competitive event, 4 of the 6 teams in the end were separated by 2 points and all had a chance of winning going into the final matches. 9 of the 15 matches were 4-3 and 5 of the rest were 5-2. So Kent won by a point from Sussex A and Surrey with Oxon one further point behind. Relegation went to the wire with Sussex B surviving by a point after beating Bucks 4-3 in the last match

Congratulations to Northants who won the County Championships Div 2.

Northants were clear favourites, and won the title by 8 points. Bucks B finished runners up. Berks finished 3rd. Oxon B took 4th place but did manage a 7-7 draw with Northants. Sussex Ladies finished 5th but still scored a few points ending up on 19.5.
