I have just been told that John Lear passed away on Friday 11th August. He had been unwell for sometime, but a chest infection was the final straw.
John had a long involvement in Bar Billiards starting in the Crawley League where he held several positions & then in Mid Sussex where he was my captain at Handcross Club & Hurstpierpoint Club before passing the baton to me. He was a great team mate & Friend. he always was friendly on & off the table and will be greatly missed. So along with Steve King another great has left us.
RIP mate. my condolences to his Family.

Very sad to hear this news, John was a really nice guy who got on with everyone. Thought of highly in Mid Sussex, he was a Life Vice-President.
He nearly joined the Zeds once, had expressed a desire to play in Billingshurst and fitted the bill perfectly of a good player but one who didn't take himself too seriously. But it didn't happen as at the last minute Mid Sussex snapped him up.
We shall miss seeing him on the bus or bumping into him in the town.
RIP John. And sincere condolences to Doris and the family.

Sorry to hear this unhappy news, John and I were team-mates for many years at several Horsham venues / Haywards Heath SC / Mid Sussex I/L
with plenty of car-sharing so that one of us could have a drink. Always modest in victory, graceful in (rare) defeat and willing to share useful advice, will be sadly missed. RIP John, condolences to family.

Sad news indeed, John was a very good friend, captain & team mate, he unwittingly was the reason I became involved in Mid Sussex League, I popped into Handcross to enquire about playing a few friendly games to be told that they were a player short as a team member had just pulled out, that player was John, he didn't stay away for long but it gave me the chance to play a couple of games and I got hooked (again, as I played (if you can call it that) MSBBL probably 20 years previously for The Victory in Staplefield)
RIP John, another friend passed on, condolences to his family

Any tributes you have will be logged on the website.
Ian - will you be able to let us have details of when John's funeral is to take place? Margo and I would like to attend.
