Littlehampton 4, Redhill B 3 T'was all going so well for the visitors, before it turned to rat$hit ! Game 1 *Lolly (6.9k) bt Jim B Game 2 Mike lost to *Fritz (5k) Game 3 Richard lost to *Tom - close, Tom pulling away at the end Game 4 *DuncanDisorderly (8k) bt Martin to make it 2-2. Game 5 Kayleigh bt *Anita ...... Anita getting to grips with the table but pegged a vital 2k, Kayleigh then made it count. Game 6 SCBBA President bt *yours truly. Dave punished me with a carefully compiled 4k after I played a 50 shot too soft. Even then I got the break-back twice but couldn't do any thing with it. So 2-4 and goodnight nurse. Game 7 *Reverend lost to Alex - close, Alex pulling away at the end to salvage some respectability.
Mr H's table plays beautifully, as the first few scores show, so no excuses really. Excellent spread of food provided by the venue.
PS Jim departed early, not feeling or looking too great. Hope he's gonna be okay.

A good night with Mid Sussex at the Alex with many games in the balance. Thanks to Pete for stepping in with Alan Mepham under the weather. Plenty of chances in this one with Pete off early, Paul balls back but also off early. Pete then got the balls back a further 5 times and manage to find many ways to either come off early or lose his score but did keep the scoreboard ticking over enough to make sure the home team got of to a solid start. Graham off at around 1k, Roger balls back but off early. Roger first to get them back and made sure this time with 5k+ break so Worthing now in control of their own destiny. Derek opened with a steady 5.3k leaving Dave time if he could get the balls back but with the top of the table being rather unkind this did not happen so one back for the away team. Rick off at 1.5k but Andy unable to take advantage and Rick got them back and settled down to make sure of keeping Worthings advantage. Very good opener of 5.4k for Barry leaving James in the same situation of needing the balls back quickly but as it was Barry got them back and finished of for a good 10k game and keeping the match alive. With 10 minutes in Paul had had 2 breaks and was leading by 2.3k as I could not find the right shots to get the break back. A good clearance (well I say so myself) and I was on the break and got to 5k+ with 2 minutes left and touched. Paul unlucky not to get them back but I did and finished off, giving us the victory. In the last Dave opened with 6k and with Ros not getting them back Dave amassed another 7k break to end with the highest score and give Worthing a very good win. Not a bad first half of the season for us after a blib at Redhill, and nice to have a settled team (except for illness) after a couple of seasons making sure we turned out with 7. Wishing everyone a Christmas and may the New Year bring you happiness and good health.

Redhill A | 3 | v | 4 | Tunbridge Wells | Tony Cross* | 4660 | - | 1180 | Richard Arnold | Michael Wilson | 5900 | - | 2180 | *Gerry Fitzjohn | John Slee | 3090 | - | 5150 | *Curt Driver | Geoff Jukes* | 7270 | - | 210 | Ian Gordon | Colin Robbins | 1690 | - | 7720 | *Pete Sainsbury | Gary Powell | 2800 | - | 6340 | *Martin Russell | Dave Jones* | 3820 | - | 6290 | Bryan Stevens |
With an early kick-off of 18:30, in a very rowdy Merstham Village Club, two teams at opposite ends of the table clashed at what is generally considered a home fortress, the dam walls breached tonight though. Crossy got things going for Redhill, and he comfortably made it to 5k before leaving a ball behind the 30. The back of the table came back to bite and Tony missed it, losing his opener. A bit of a ding-dong commenced, but Tony got the balls back and racked up 4k and (I'll be generous) touch to secure the leg. Richard then added a few, but the leg was done. 1-0 Second on was a repeat of the County Champs in September, as Gerry took on Michael. Gerry struggled to start and was off after missing a similar ball to Tony while on about 1k. Michael contrived to miss it too, and balls gathered at the back. Thankfully it didn't stay that way, Gerry getting them back but only managing a k before coming off. This time Michael got them back and got up to 4.9k, before safely playing 30s instead of splitting around the white peg. Gerry had time, but the table was not to his liking and he could only add a further k to give Michael a first interleague win for the As. 2-0 Next up the England captain looked like he fancied finishing things in one visit, an array of 10/100/20 splits but never in danger. At about 4.5k though, he caught a 100 split fat (as many do) and he was off. The wily old fox that is young Sleezy got them back and set about the chase, but he was also off on just 1.9k. After a bit of farting around, Sleezy got them back and needed a rapid 3.5k, but he broke down on 1k and Curt had pulled one back for the Wells. 2-1 Next up Geoff took on newbie Ian. Ian hasn't played much bar billiards before, so Geoff was given the instruction to go easy once he'd added enough. An opening visit of 3k was the start he needed, and a friendly game was then enjoyed. Geoff getting the break back a couple of times to add a couple of k each go and Ian being unfortunate not to keep his 1k break having got the balls back, he fell down the same rabbit hole as several before as a ball sneaked behind the 30 and was missed. 3-1 So Redhill just needed one more for victory, and with the absence of messers Richard C and Paul they fancied their chances, but they didn't see what was coming... next up Pete was tasked with keeping the Wells in the contest, and he was up to the challenge. Nobody had got past (and kept) a 5k break on the night and Pete continued this tradition with 4.9k and off. Colin couldn't find a way to get them back but Pete did to stretch his lead to just over 6k. With 6 minutes left Colin got the balls back, but with the top being a tough master tonight he could only manage a k before succumbing to it, or perhaps he was just weighed down due to the amount of cash he'd collected for his gourmet food offerings! 3-2 So two more frames to go and Martin was up next for the visitors. He started hesitantly, adding a k but coming off. Gary got them straight back but could only match Martins opener. That opening break had given Martin a good sighter though, and after a little din-dong where both added a further k from the break, it was Martin who made the decisive move adding 3k to put him in command - he even had time to appreciate DCs complimentary remarks to Bryan, noticing he'd clearly made an effort to go to the gym recently!! Back to the table and Martin had done enough to shake off Gary, into a decider we go... 3-3 With DJ on the break the Redhill gang were still confident, but having been 3-1 up a few nerves started to kick in. Dave was looking good but left the red incredibly high on the split, after some deliberation he opted for a 50-30 roll through, but the Merstham top was in an unforgiving mood and he was off at 3.3k. I don't know what Bryan has been doing at the gym, but he looked like a predator experienced in hunting down his prey, his second bite got the balls back, and he calmly dismantled the Redhill corpse, leaving each one-up perfect for the 100 split. He prowled majestically but, just before all Redhill hope was lost, a small lapse in concentration and a thick split saw him come off. So now it was a question of could Redhill's antelope escape the lions grip, wriggle away and run free? Well, there was plenty of squirming as both predator and prey looked like they could win, but the lion put his foot down, got the balls back and tore the heart from the mighty Merstham fortress. 3-4 So an excellent game which the Wells did fantastically to win. Bryan was superb in the decider, probably played it the best of any of us all night. It's a big result at both ends of the table, denting Redhill's hopes of retaining the crown they picked up last year, and giving the Wells a first victory of the season before an important double against Brighton B in the new year.

Brighton A 4-3 West Sussex **Phil Osborne 15,690 - 50 Alan Hitchman - great start from Phil with excellent opener giving Alan no chance, Phil added more Jim Millward 8520 - 7390 Chris Cox** - Chris showing 25k form early on as he flew out the blocks but a thin one up and off. Jim got them straight back but really struggled with the slowness of the table and dodgy eyes! He was off on 3k and then Chris played a couple of great shots to get them back, thought that was that but a thin split and missed both, balls back for Jim and chased the 4k deficit with ease - hard to believe it was the same person! Also hard to believe there were 3 misses in this leg Kevin Hall 870 - 12,390 Daniel Wheal** - 100% Dan made an excellent start with a 8.9k opener in no time, but leaving the one up short looked to give Kev a great opportunity to get them back with plenty of time. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be and the rest of the leg scrappy meant the visitors on the board and Dan keeping his record in tact **Bob Hall 3570 - 4370 Barry Holt - Bob started well but off after missing a 10 split, then it became very scrappy at the back. Barry was first to get them back but hadn't reached Bob's score when off. Further chances for both to get them back before Barry finally did and made enough - 2-2 Matthew Knight 10,770 - 3410 Gareth Cornford** - Gareth off early, I think the ball might have moved on the spot as he pegged with the white on the break. I got them straight back and made enough first visit. Gareth added a few when he got the balls back Chris Tupper 0 - 24,050 Martin Cole** - with the match ebbing away Martin decided to take the break and leave Mel with the easy leg in the last No doubt he would be looking for a big one, a little ragged at the start he soon settled down and was flying along looking like getting close to 27k before he miscued the one-up on his score and left the white ball short. Sure it won't be long before Coley does get his 25k. A great effort tonight, Tupps enjoyed the rest! **Nigel Senior 11,920 - 960 Mel Beach - pretty raucous during this one with both players getting a lot of vocal support and plenty of stick too. Nigel taking the spoils and giving us the win after a 6k opener which he (correctly) decided to keep Extremely enjoyable night with the West Sussex boys and girl, plenty of good natured (well mostly) banter and loud support for both teams. Excellent win for us against tough opponents
