Brighton A 5-2 Worthing A **Grant Tully 10,840 - 0 Stuart Carruthers - excellent opener from super stand-in GT giving Stu no chance and an early lead for us Matthew Knight 9430 - 6060 Joe Oakley** - Joe easily getting to 5k, only to miss the break thick, off, I got them straight back and got to 7.8k with some good fortune before a bad 10 split. Joe did get them back with plenty of time, but left a split short, ending his second break very early. I got them back to ensure a 2-0 lead Bob Hall 2510 - 12,330 Martin Smith** - Smithy been in good form and no different tonight with an excellent 8.8k opener but he did make a mistake on the time and there was still 7 mins left when he was off messing around near the 50 Bob really fancied his chances, a couple of great shots left him with half a chance but he was unfortunate to take out the right hand peg. Martin did get them back but off missing a split short, Bob a rapid 2k left him thinking what might have been **Phil Osborne 8050 - 4100 Kevin Tunstall - massive leg with all the pressure on Phil playing Kev. Off early with a peg it looked curtains as it gave Kev the balls back. Like Joe, Kevin also missed the break but thin, also pegging when trying to get them back at the increasingly difficult back of the table. Phil played a couple of excellent shots and really toughed it out with a very good 8k and touch for a huge win. Kev finished off Chris Tupper 8820 - 1820 Terry Molloy** - both players off early, Chris getting them back a second time and no messing about as he made a very good 7.5k for the win and an assailable lead. Terry off form with a few issues, and we send him our best Nigel Senior 0 - 11,150 Stuart Mepham** - Stu looking untroubled in his opening break with 5k but surprisingly missing. Nigel tried everything to get them back, but really tricky with lots of whips and a few missed balls. Stu trying hard also and he was first to get them back and make another 5k for the leg **Kevin Hall 2500 - 1520 Gary Ridley - extremely scrappy leg with neither player managing to get to grips with the roll at the back end of the table, both had chances with the break but one-up short and behind not helping either player. As the bar went Gary gave it a good go but a peg ended all chance to give Kev the win in a low scoring leg Excellent win for the hosts tonight, taking advantage of a couple of missed breaks and some below par performances from our opponents. Thought we also had the run of the balls which always helps. Banter flowed all of it good natured, with lots of laughs making for a good night

Redhill B 5, Mid Sussex 2 (played at Salfords SC)*Tom Pearse 5680, Ian Giffen 3050 (good break at the end by Ian but too late)Nev Blackman 4960, *Mick Kirwan 2510 (Nev overtook and managed to stay there)Martin Greenway 260, *Barry West 5560 (great opening break from Barry put Martin under pressure)*Anita Blackman 2300, Paul Jobbins 5390 (Paul replying with 5k on his first visit, leaving Anita no time to come back)Mark Fraser 3000, *Derek Taylor BP (Greek tragedy for Derek as he pegged a 3k opener -Fritz banked a good reply then balls stuck up the middle)Clive Thompson 5780, *Andy Farmer-Wright 4200 (Andy 4k opener, my reply only 900 but then played out on my second visit)*Alex Hornby 3950, Ros Appleby 1910 (Alex pegged a 2k opener, Ros a good reply but Alex no mistake thereafter)An eventful match, fortune first favouring one side, then another. The visitors played our table very well, and on another night the result could well have gone in their favour. Good to meet up again with old friends, with Tom especially looking forward to the return visit.

With two wins out of two in the bag, defending champions Redhill eyed up three on the spin before travelling to the Henty next time out. The first game rather set the tone for the night, with Tony only managing a couple of k of the break before both he and Steve fought the back of the table, and Steve was first to get them back but he was off before catching Tony. Tony got the balls back again but could only up his score to 4.5k, leaving the game in the balance. The back was whipping like buggery but unfortunately for Steve in was Tony who got the balls back at the end and he ran out the remaining time to make the scoreline look comfortable! 1-0 Second up Michael and Jean had a game that you'd expect to see the locals play, but nevertheless after a 1.5k opener that battle of the back commenced. The pockets were whipping whether you played the ball soft or hard, and neither player found the magic key to the table. Jean did manage to clear up with the bar 30 seconds away, leaving Michael delighted not to even get the break back this week. 1-1 Third on Marcus and Denise. Despite only making 600 from his opener, Marcus was quickly back on and made a good 3k before the 10 split was unbelievably harsh. It looked like the 10 was in for all money but it whipped and sat dead on the cushion behind the 10. A terrific shot from Marcus meant he kept his break my just sticking it (by the barest of margins) and he held his useful lead. Unlike the last game both players looked like getting them back, in fact Denise did twice but the split was not kind to her. With five minutes to go though she got the break back again and she made a superb, grafting 4k to the bar to sneak in front and snatch victory from under Marcus's nose. 2-1 So Redhill now had the break and young Geoff, who celebrated his 21st birthday this year, showed that when you were on the break you could make a score. Bar the opening split (that whipped from 10 to 20) a faultless 7.5k came to an end when he left the white short of the 100 on the split, right in the centre. Thankfully Geoff had done this two weeks ago too, so he knew the angle to just touch up off the cushion. There was just enough time for Moppy, but it would have been very difficult and Geoff managed to get the balls back first, getting up to 10k before an uncharacteristic miss. Moppy got the balls back as the bar dropped.. always the way. 3-1 So Redhill just needed one leg and Sleezy was the first to give it a go. Alan had the break and opened with 1.5k. After a couple of goes each Sleezy got them back and was looking good until a thick split at 4k and he was off. Once again it the game would be determined on who could either figure out or get lucky at the back, and Alan found a way and he made 4k which was just enough, even if Sleezy got them back immediately. An inadvertent shot down the centre took out the black peg, leaving Sleezy with the pride of tonight's lowest scorer. 3-2 So next up Kev took on stand-in captain Gary, as Colin was away in America - thankfully this meant a high standard of sandwiches this week ;). Anyway Kev, as plenty had before him, only managed 1.5k off the break and, despite needing a couple of goes Gary got the balls back and added 4k. Another battle at the back commenced, but Kev couldn't get them back and Gary added a couple more late on to make sure of the result. 4-2 With Dave J ready to play, Brighton handed Redhill a last leg walkover with Chelle feeling under the weather (hope you're feeling better now) meaning a superb table playout of 0 gave Redhill a 5-2 victory. So on a night where Worthing and Tunbridge Wells stuttered, Redhill made it 3/3 in their perfect start to a title defence. With the Merstham table starting to show signs of the cold getting to it, the Redhill mob will be happy to be on the road to the Henty next time out.
