The Nomads came back to earth tonight as their time at the top was quashed my the three-time defending champions. First up JP was returning from his Majorca mini-break, followed by a trip to the even more glamorous Shrewsbury, and he looked like he could come back in glorious fashion. Despite leaving his first break short, Colin was feeling the effector a lack of beer and a battle of the back commenced. Colin never looked like he'd got used to the table, but JP had and kept building his lead so that he got to 1.5k up. Colin needed a little help from JP to get the break back and, luckily for him JP was unlucky to peg it and give the break back to Col. Despite one excursion, Col made no mistake and got to 1.5k up before touching with the bar due. 0-1 During the second leg the unfamiliar pub sound of cans opening could be heard frequently - owing to the lack of beer on tap - but sadly this seemed to put Jim into home comforts mood, and he seemed to have forgotten his recent form and remembered how to relax on the sofa. So sadly for the first time this season Jemima reared her head up and, despite 12 minutes of Nomads hope, Geoff got the break back and added 3.5k and touch. 0-2 Third on was a repeat of last year's draw as Tony had the break against Michael, last year he went off with enough but this time a shade under 4k was all Tony could muster. Michael got the break back after a couple of goes, but Peggy McGee was working her magic. Having left the red short on the break, something Michael had earlier commented that he struggled to understand how people did, he buggerer the recovery rimming the 100 and taking out the peg. Tony couldn't get going and Michael once again got the break back. 2k in and he left the red high on the one up - attempted 20 split just caught the 200 hole and that whipped it dead into the white, oh and both balls went down. Game over - good job Michael's luck was in as the voice at the back of the room had muttered. 0-3 So with the match done, pride was still to play for but Karl was in no mood to lay down and roll over. 2k to open and once again the thankless task of getting the balls back commenced. Dave did manage to retrieve them once, but his break lacked the necessary puff and off he went. As his captain watched through the rear window Dave continued his plight, with Karl dashing any perceived hope by adding another k on the break late on. 0-4 So the whitewash was on, but Max wasn't going to roll over and give in. Having said that he gave Gary an early opportunity having misjudged his opening split - Gaz got them straight back but put the one-up behind and the scores were all square! Both players had a chance at taking the final leg then, but Max was the one who retrieved the balls and he added 3k before coming off. There was time for Gaz but alas it was not going for him, and the Nomads therefore managed to at least come away with a keepsake point. 1-4 So a first defeat of the season and a rather humbling night for the ex-league leaders. All five games could have gone either way but, well, when your luck's in...

A few more goes and Rick got the balls back and With another superb 7k wrapped the frame up and with it a challenge for highest A league home score.
Leg 3 and DC and Caroline. Caroline's break and started with a very good 2k. Plenty of goes with Dave battling To clear them. DC next to get them back and a good 6k and tap gave him the advantage. Caroline playing well Added some more before DC cleared up.
4th leg me and Mark. Marks break and a superb near 3k gave him a good lead. A few goes and I managed to Clear them only to peg them. A few more goes and I eventually got my act together and 6k and tap gave me a Winning advantage. Mark made a few more before I finished off.
Last but not least Laurie and Dave. Dave having waited patiently looking on in no mood for favours. A couple Of excursions but apart from that pretty faultless. Laurie spectating and chalking in hope. A brilliant total clearance to a round of applause Highest away score and break enough said.
