Michael Wilson (1320*,5320) 6640 - 7650 (1580,6070*) Tony Cross
With Michael unavailable next Tuesday, the singles match between him and Tony was pulled forward to Wednesday night. Tony won the toss and Michael was given the opportunity to test out the Old Oak top first. Leg one was a bit of a mare though. Michael missed his second break shot (doh!) and Tony was unlucky to peg it while down the back, inadvertently giving Michael the break again. This go wasn't much better with the first split too thick and he was off again. Tony looked the better player but couldn't keep his breaks. A thick split on 2.8k and Tony tried an ambitious shot of the back cushion but missed, no score. Next time he managed just over a k before another thick split saw him come off. Then Tony racked up 3k before leaving the ball behind the 20 and the roll caught him off, again missing the ball just as the bar dropped. So somehow the difference was only 260. Tony had the break and made 2k before the one-up shot inside the 50. Michael got them back, second time lucky, and made 2.5k before also falling foul to the white coming inside, this time on the break. Tony was next to get them back and it looked like he'd make a match winning break, but at 3.5k the one-up went wrong again and Michael was on. 3k to chase with 5 minutes left but Michael's break was far from clean. He used every inch of the table, coming off at 2.5k. Both players then had a go at getting the balls back and the scores were nigh on level, but Tony was on the table at the right time getting the balls back just before the bar fell. Tony got rid of the red and tapped up, Michael need 800 from 5 balls. An amazing screw shot into the 200 got one of those, and the second ball shot off two cushion and flew into the 200 as well! A couple more creative efforts but a miss spelt the end of Michael's efforts and hands were shook.
So well done for Tony, he was the better player but managed to keep Michael in it. Thanks go to Geoff for scoring, who gave Michael a little telling off for the cue slam when he missed on 2.5k with the game at his mercy.

Open Singles last night at Horley CC. I managed to write all the scores down and then forgot to plck the piece of paper up typical. To the best of my knowledge and recollection as follows.
Mark v Denise
Game 1 Mark won the toss and put Denise in. Denise struggling with the break soon off but Fritz ccouldn't make much headway. Plenty of goes each till Denise finally got hold of the top And made a fine 5k. Mark next to clear the balls But a fat split and off. Denise another 2k and A 6k lead. Game 2 Mark's break and going along OK but yet another fat split and peg. Denise balls back And another good 4.5 k break and a 5k lead . Fritz playing much better cleared up and a 5k Break to the Bar nicked the 2nd leg but not the match.
John v Abbey
Game 1 Abbey's break and was Going along nicely on 2k but a very unlucky shot pegged her Score. A few shots each and I got them back. 6k and tap gave me a good lead. Plenty of shots More and I added another 2k.
Game 2 and my break. 2k and tap so we could have a nice friendly leg. Plenty of goes and practice For Abbey giving her loads of table time. Along with Fritz marking we had a fun second leg which Abbey was pleased to nick with 3k each.
