Congrats to Matt Jones on winning his 2nd Grand Prix title. The World Champ beat Kev Tunstall in the final. 2 breaks in the first leg saw Matt accumulate a 17k+ lead. Kev never really got going and conceded early The top 16 players of the year competed in 4 groups. And each group had its twist and turns Group A was won by number 1 seed KT, but he was in trouble after losing to Dave Ingram. Dave Jones played Kevin last and could lose by less than 13k and progress, but Kevin beat him 22k to 3k. Group B has been called the greatest Group in Grand Prix history. But that was by Joe Oakley who may have been a little biased as he was competing in it. Matt Jones went through unbeaten but that was only after Joe let him off the hook in the final match. This meant Stu Carruthers was 2nd, who had a good day making Matt run the table out in the first match to beat him after being 17k in front. Group C was also tight, all 4 player went into the last match with one win a piece. Nigel Senior was in control, only needing a win to see him through and was 18.4k up on Curt Driver. Curt though came back with 19,720. This however only acheived the result of knocking himself and Nigel out as Chris Cox got the required score and win against Gerry fitzjohn to put him thorugh by just 1,480 points. Group D was no less exciting. Martin Cole got through and that was after being battered (Matt knight's words) by Matt Knight in his first match. So by the final match Mark Trafford was in control with a 30k plus lead over Martin and 2 wins. However Mark missed early on 2k against Martin, so Martin went hell for leather scoring 14k then another 21,330 for the highest break of the day. This result though kept Matt Knight in the hunt for a first semi final at the Grand Prix. He would need to beat debutant Daniel Wheal but also score around 19k. Dan though played his best game of the day to deny Matt the win. In the semis Coxy had golden chances to beat Matt - only 3k behind with his break to come but left the one up short. Martin played Kevin in the other semi final - 2 breaks put him 9k up, but Kev didnt miss after that to end Martin's run. Below are a copy of the Group tables, thanks to Matt Jones for setting up the tables. Clearly from the scores you can see once again he set them up to be of great standard. Congratulations to all 3 winners of the AEBBA Competitions played at Totteridge Community Centre yesterday.... Matt Jones in the Grand Prix, Pauline Withey for her record-breaking 6th Ladies Grand Prix title and to Max Burt for winning the Under 30's title. A HUGE THANK YOU to Nigel Senior, Mathew Knight, Jean Brackenridge, Matt Jones and anyone else involved for all of their hard work organising and running the AEBBA Competitions both yesterday and throughout the whole year.... these competitions that we all enjoy playing would not take place without the time and effort that you give to make this happen and we all appreciate it. Also, thank you to the Totteridge Club for hosting these events for us, we are always made to feel very welcome whenever we come here.

I agree wholeheartedly with Dave. Especially about the contribution made by the tournament organisers. As regards Group B, it was a tough group, in with 3 very good 'youngsters', (my son is about the same age as these 3 cueists)... T took a leg off all 3 off them, but lost on aggregate... ran the clock out against Matt but of course he scored more in his leg, one go each. 9k lead over Joe and he wiped that out with his break.. and one of them is the now both the World Champ and the Grand Prix champ, one hell of a group. A pleasure to be part off. On a more sober note, I have just found out an old friend of myn (same age as me), passed on this weekend, I last saw him just before we all went out to Jersey. Take care.
