SPCC A 3, Old Oak 2Tracy 1850, Paul 4340 (Paul played well, Tracy no luck at all, even a BP at one stage) 0-1D.C. 3540, Clive 6860 (Clive an embarrassing amount of luck, eg - white whipped out of RH50, nudged the BP which stood back up and nudged ball back slightly enabling a 200 cut followed by a 400 cut. Later a misjudged shot in the corner flew back for a red in the 100. Dave caught me up at 3.5k each, then I played to the bar with my last visit.) 0-2Laurie 7930, Charlie 730 (One-way traffic, Laurie sportingly touching up on the break shot later in the game to allow Chas a bit of table time) 1-2At this point the missing half of their team turned up ....... Ricky 6570, Nick 660 (Another big win for league 'newbie' Ricky) 2-2Sleezy 7200, Rebecca 460 to complete the comeback and make it 3-2 Table very fast and true tonight. The draw was kind, giving us all five breaks. Great music selection courtesy of D.C.- Pink Floyd especially. Good spread of sarnies. Martin recovering well at home after his op, should be available next week for the cup. Nice evening spent with friends.

Nomads | 3 | v | 2 | Jolly Bs | Michael | 3270 | - | 640 | *Mike | Abbey | 2040 | - | 3060 | *Peter | Jim | 3500 | - | 1900 | *Bob | Max* | 6700 | - | 1850 | Ian | JP | 1900 | - | 2330 | *John |
With the Garland rammed to the brim with every Redhill teenager old enough to drink (well, maybe old enough) a raucous atmosphere greeted the Jolly Bs. Jim made a new friend from Stoke-on-Trent who seemed to be spouting nonsense all night, and the rest of us had no idea what the hell he was on about whenever he made a comment while travelling to the loo. On the baise things were tight, and with Mike and Peter still on their travels, Jim and Bob opened up. It must have been a difficult transition for these too, playing together in the Blind Pairs on Saturday in lightning quick conditions, the Garland really couldn't be a more foreign environment. This game was interesting, because both players got the break back about 1000 times and found every which way to come off. From the common red ball not reaching the 50 to sliding the red both inside and outside the 50, white ball going outside the 50 and whipping out and even both balls not reaching, they really did their best to complete the bingo set. About mid way through the game, with the scores roughly level, Jim made a monster 1,150 break once again buggering up the break to come off. Thankfully for him and his team it was enough and the Nomads took the lead. 1-0 With a couple of minutes to go in the opening game, Mike arrived on his fantastic scooter ready to put his namesake to the test. After unluckily pegging his opener, neither player could retrieve the balls with Michael becoming increasingly frustrated - something which is highly unusual.. At the midway point a couple of shots into the hundred built a 600 lead and late on Michael pulled away somewhat, eventually getting the break back and running the remaining time out for 1.5k. 2-0 So third on was the well G&T'd Abbey against Peter. Peter managed to hit the balls so softly they wouldn't gone in even if the table was at a 45deg angle and Abbey looked like she was in good knick. Having perfected the "make a break, pick up drink, sip, back to the table" routine with the help of Michael as a coaster, it looked like Abbey was the favorite. Peter, though, found a moment of magic. He retrieved the balls while being 700 behind and added an excellent 2k, mostly tapping to the 50s. Jim's Stoke friend commented that he looked like an excellent player while on another trip to the loo. Sadly for Abbey this was the deciding factor in the end, she couldn't retrieve the break despite her best effort and the pegs started to go flying, the Jollys were back in it. 2-1 So Max was up next and I was both delighted and amused when Max told me "I want to tap up at 10". I like the ambition Max, he had been playing it well in practice, but the Garland is not easy to just make enough and tap. Max, though, went on his merry way and was already in trouble after his third break shot, rushing it slightly and therefore missing the red. He kept going though and accumulated steadily to reach 4k, where he once again found himself down the back. This time the pockets were less forgiving as he came off, disappointed in missing his target. Ian, however, was just happy to get a shot, which he missed. Max then did his best to retrieve the balls but was off and this time Ian.. missed again. At the third time of asking Ian did manage to get something in and he also managed to get the balls back, adding 1.5k before being caught out by the roll when tip-tapping to the 50s. Max then cleared up and finished off to take a resounding win and secure the Nomads victory. 3-1 The Nomads were still targeting more though. As they have been replaced at the top by the relentless MVC B they needed to keep adding points in a quest for the top 3. JP was the man to try and finish the job, but it was the Jolly Captain John who had the break. 400 was all he could muster but JPs night was rather foreshadowed from the outset. He knocked in two balls immediately but that last ball to get the clearance just wouldn't go down. Jolly John got the break back a couple of times but JP stayed in touch with his top of the table knowhow. With the bar gone, JP sneaked to within touching distance, 390 behind, but JJ managed to remove the redball from the table and, therefore, JPs chances of winning vanished. 3-2 So a very different game of Billiards to the weekend, with all the matches bar Max being close. Potentially a missed opportunity for the Nomads to pick up more points, but the Jollys will be happy to pick up two more as they get further and further from the dreaded wooden spoon.
