Salfords Y 2, Old Oak 3 A rare win for the Oak ....... *Baz 2020, Rebecca 550 *Karen 1830, Clive 4920 Nev 1040, *Charlie 2530 Anita 3580, *Paul 6770 Fritz 3660, *Nick 1190
Game 4 was pivotal, with luck on Paul's side when Anita pegged a 3k reply. Paul able to make it count, for his best showing of the season. With our match finishing first, we were entertained by watching the decider on the RH Table where the Nomads 5th player (both teams being short) beat their counterpart with an 11k opening break and final tally of 17k ! Thanks for the tasty grub supplied (crab sarnies, quiche, mini pork pies et al)

Salfords A | 2 | v | 3 | Nomads | Sheila* | 1570 | - | 2300 | Jim | Teri* | 5580 | - | 4100 | Michael | Yvonne | 1260 | - | 2050 | *JP | Les* | 3750 | - | 460 | James | Les (P5) | 120 | - | 17140 | *Michael (P5) |
With the season nearing its close, the Nomads continued their quest for a top three spot with a visit to this years wooden spoon holders elect. Both teams had last minute withdrawals due to work and illness, so a double case of foreplay was invoked. First up captain Sheila took on Dr Jim Jekyll, or would it be Ms Jemima Hyde? Well the running was done by Sheila and it definitely looked like Ms Hyde was in the building. Sheila's lead hovered around the 500 mark, until a couple of minutes were left on the clock and Dr Jekyll sprung into action - he got the break and calmly accumulated and tapped up with the bar due and 600 in front. With some creative shots Sheila could have caught up, but an unfortunate peg put pay to that and gave the visitors the lead. 0-1 So, game one was snatched away from the Salfords team, but Teri would put on the performance of the night in game two. Her opening salvo was a well constructed 1,990 - coming off down the back. Michael came to the table but couldn't get them back and so Teri put the hammer down. An excellent clear with no fuss and a mixture of 10 and 100 splits saw Teri build her lead. As the break built, there were a couple of nervy splits, the odd whipped 100 but they went in down the back. Agonisingly Teri was only 30 short of the high home break when she tapped up as the balls went awkward for an excellent 3440. Michael required 5.4k in five minutes and managed to get them back quickly. But the Salfords RH table is tough to rush and a one-up left on the lip at 3.6k put pay to any potential steal. Michael thought he wouldn't have caught Teri, some other voices disagreed, but really it was Teri who deserved the win after a stellar performance. 1-1 So with the scores level, JP took the visitors first break of the night and opened up a slender 500 lead. He and Yvonne traded blows in a real grind of a game, but it was JP who was always ahead and never really looked like he was in trouble. Over the course of the game JPs lead steadily grew, leaving him 1k up and securing a third win on the bounce. 1-2 So next up Salfords A newbie Les faced off against Salfords A oldie James. Les opened up with just over 1k, and added a bit to his lead before James kicked into gear. With 10 minutes gone James got the break back and he was flying along. A ferocious 100 split and alot of tippy-tapping on the 50 hole saw him to 2k before a slight misjudgement. With the red sliding beyond the 50 hole, James attempted a 50-30 but to his (and his teams) horror the red drifted inside the 30 and sat awkward. A shot off one cushion was the attempted recovery, but it missed by a nats crocket and James' hard work was all undone. Les went on to get the balls back and make sure he got over the line to bring the game all-square. 2-2 So, a second Desmond in two weeks for the Nomads and Michael was once again up in the decider. This time though, it was a battle of two guys who'd already played. Michael decided he'd see what he could make - still in search of a first competitive playout - and he was cracking along getting to the 10k mark with only 100 splits. But then things got ropey, two splits where the red came across the face of the 50 and on the second one the 50-30 went wrong, Michael coming off at the back on 11,900. He cut a frustrated figure coming away from the table early and was afforded an immediate opportunity to get back to the table but again broke down on 1.5k. Michael got them back again late on and finished off with another 3.5k. 3-2 So a dramatic night at Salfords, Teri deservedly taking home the player of the match award as the Nomads were unconvincing in their 3-2 victory. With a bye next week the Christmas leaders just have two games to go until the season draws to its close - with third place looking less likely, they were at least given a boost with Salfords Y faltering against the Oak on the adjacent table.

Rearranged South Park Derby South Park B 3 South Park A 2 Pete 9640 Dave 3810 Mick 10230 Tracy 500 Gennette 4530 Laurie 7230 Denise 7500 Ricky 4750 Mick 4290 John 8200 ( Mick 4 player )
First up Pete and Dc and Pete happy to have the break after not getting a shot Tuesday. Determined to .make ammends apart from A couple of excursions a faultless 8.5 k and tap was enough time taken out of the frame. A few more added then Dc played it out 1-0
Leg two saw Mick take on Tracy. With Tracy Playing really well expectations were high but a too thick break shot left a tricky one and She was off. Mick also in good touch this year cleared the balls and set about building a break. Going nicely on 6k he left a not a gimme Cush shot. Very fortunate to just clip it but held them. Tracy next to get them back but a fat split and off again. Mick said thankyou And added more to the Bar. 2-0 down and in a spot of bother.
Step up Gennette and Laurie. Lozs break but he's struggling with a bit of confidence at the moment however he was head down and Playing pretty well. A decent break gave him a good start but Gennette is a tough battler and got right back into it. Laurie break back Made sure next visit. One leg back.
Next up Denise and Ricky. Denise on with the break But an early slip gave Ricky the chance he needed. Coasting along on 2k a very Unfortunate roll of the red off the spot meant a very thin contact and off. Denise next to get them back and a very good 5k break put Her in a great position. Ricky finally cleared the balls and a rapid 3k to finish .
Last but not least Mick again and yours truly. Really needing this last leg now my break and feeling good. A different story when I went On scratching my way to 2k then hitting an awful split and off. With Mick clearing up I felt the worse as he had already played very well Earlier. Sailing along to 4k he never looked in trouble but the old fat split came to my rescue and he was off. My chance break back and More like my old self 6k and tap was enough.
A lovely evening as always with the b's loads of chat and friendly banter. 2-3 result which probably gives us league runners up failing Some extraordinary twist next week. Thanks to the girls for a lovely spread of food.
