Redhill B 5, Littlehampton 2 *Mark Fraser bt Mick Moore (Our captain led from the front with a fine 10k score) Anita Blackman bt *Kayleigh Tizzard (revenge for Anita who had lost to "this other KT" down in Littlehampton) Nev Blackman lost to *Colin Green (a fine 6k game from the Reverend) *Tom Pearse bt Steve Beach (Unbeaten Tom off to a good start, Steve battled well but time always against him) Martin Greenway lost to *John Dynes (a masterclass of steady play from John, no luck in getting them back for Martin) Clive Thompson bt *Eric Mole (Eric missed ball behind the 10 hole to lose an opening thousand, I replied with 3k, Eric threatened to catch me late in the game, relief for me when the bar went) *Alex Hornby bt Dave Hampton (Dave built a handy lead but Alex was not going to let go once he got the break back, and prevailed by 4k-3k.)
Congrats to Divisional Champions Worthing B who we understand also won 5-2. Commiserations to Lewes who led up until this last series of games. A pleasant evening spent with sociable opponents.

A great evening at Burgess Hill with plenty of banter, laughs and some close games but probably true for most the table was the winner. Thank you to Roz for supplying some lovely hot dogs and jaffa cakes for the hungry masses (at least James was in no mood to let any food go to waste). Thanks you to my team for an enjoyable season and it was nice to play with a settled side. Good to see Alan back out with us. Now we look forward to taking our punishment in the first division next season. Game 1. Mick started off well but pegged his opening break, Alan balls back but off at 600, then developed into a good ole scrap at the back of the table and with nobody getting the break back Alan kept battling away to maintain his lead and give Worthing the start they wanted. Game 2. Roger off at about 1k, Andy balls back but off early, Roger next to get them back and build what turned out to be a winning lead as this one turned into another battle at the top of the table. Game 3. James opened with 2k and with this one then following the pattern of chase the balls around the top of the table, Ian was unable to close the gap, so the perfect start for Worthing. Game 4. Derek opened with around 2k and again with Dave unable to retrieve the balls, the opening break was enough for the home side to pull a leg back. Game 5. Dave opened with just over 2k, Ros balls back and off at 2.2k and was first to get them back again but off quickly, Dave was then next to get them back and was in no mood to give Ros another chance and built another 2k and winning break. Game 6. Rick pegged his opener and gave Paul the break back, Paul taking full advantage with a good 3k+ break, Paul then first to get them back and added another 2k+, Rick eventually got them back but was always short of time. With us hearing Redhill were 3-2 up it looked as though 4-3 was going to be enough for us to win the league on aggregate score, but we wanted the last leg to ensure we won on legs won and lost. Game 7. Baz pegged his opened giving TJ the break back, 3 times down and one up then an awful 50/20 split saw TJ off. Baz then got 2 breaks of around 2k to build a lead of around 3.5k. TJ balls back and looked to be going well but struggling to get the split right was off at 1.5k. Some play at the top end before J got them back again needing just over 2k with about 2.5 minutes left. TJ played to the last 3 balls (whites) in the tray but was 230 down, so it was both down on the break (achieved) and then the 200 to win, which TJ managed first time to make it 5-2. A good competitive season for the division 2 title this year, with three teams plying for the honour.

*Tom Pearse bt Steve Beach (Unbeaten Tom off to a good start, Steve battled well but time always against him)Congrats to Divisional Champions Worthing B who we understand also won 5-2. Congrats also to Tom! An unbeaten season and top of the Div B averages! Nice to see that Paul Jobbins is still a Redhill player at heart, defeating Tom's oppo Rick in the final game. [It was clearly a great battle for the title this year, well done to Worthing B on fighting off Redhill B and Lewes.]

Tunbridge Wells | 1 | v | 6 | Redhill A | Pete Sainsbury* | 9410 | - | 5210 | Colin Robbins | Martin Kemsley | 1120 | - | 16100 | *Michael Wilson | Paula Kemsley | 650 | - | 7730 | *John Slee | Gerry Fitzjohn* | 7280 | - | 8840 | Dave Jones | Bryan Stevens | 4420 | - | 5960 | *DC | Martin Russell | 130 | - | 11000 | *Gary Powell | Vinny Mitchell* | 2720 | - | 8280 | Geoff Jukes |
With the last week of the season upon us the Redhill mob travelled to Kent in what was the "dead rubber tie". Tunny Wells were guaranteed 5th whatever happened and Redhill could (in theory) jump from fourth to second, but that would be relying on results from elsewhere. To start the evening both captains fancied a crack at each other and Pete was making the early running before leaving the one-up short at about 2k. Captain Col was straight over to the table but it was clear that the lager tops hadn't kicked in this early in the evening and he was off before Gary could take another sip. Pete didn't fancy giving Col another go and racked up 7k before tap tapping for the opening leg. 1-0 Next up was one of the suber-sub-Kemsleys (Martin in this case) against the in form Michael, has he mentioned to you he made 20k? Anyway Michael with the break was in no mood for a battle and he was rattling along with a perfect 100 splitting break. At 10.3k a voice said "good hit". Having gone in on the whip for the first time Michael was in a rebellious mood and got another 100 split. at 11k the lurking voice was a bit louder "GOOD HIT". Michael tapped for touch, keeping his score. A couple of friendly minutes at the back of the table saw Martin make scores, but it was Michael who got them back and played it out for another 5k. 1-1 Third on was the second super-sub-Kemsley (Paula) of the night in what turned into a fun game. Sleezy opened up with a couple of k and added a few k here and there throughout the game, but it was the Max Burt-style talking to the balls from Paula, particularly if they were within a foot of a peg, that provided excellent entertainment. A fun game, but another leg with the break in the ledger. 1-2 Next up was the mighty Fitz, and Captain Col decided to turn up the pressure by pitting the mega Jonesy against him. It was expected that Gerry would make 6k before finding a way to miss, but he clearly fancied an early trip back to his pint. DJ had just turned away having had his look at the table when Gerry left his one-up short at just over 1k! Dave was clinical, clearing the balls and serenely getting to 8.5k before tap-tapping. Gerry finished of showing what might have been. 1-3 So Redhill were now firmly in control and it was master DC who was given the task of finishing the job. His opponent had scarred Redhill before - a wonderful deciding leg from Bryan had put pay to Redhill's title ambitions - and the aura of Bryan appeared to loom large as DC came off at 2k after battling with the table. Bryan looked like he'd punish DC and he accumulated steadily before a mistake and he was off at just over 4k. DC required four invitations on Tuesday night to get over the line, but this time the second letter posted through his door was enough as he made 3k to take the leg and the match for Redhill. 1-4 At this point the authors memory becomes uncharacteristically faded, a very enjoyable night on the whip meant his attention on the billiards was next to nil and could make for an interesting last couple of reports... Sixth on Gazza took some of his footballing wizardry and played the table with great skill. The set piece break, one-up, split was flying in and when he was told he couldn't catch Michael's score it even brought a tear to his eye. 1-5 Finally Vinny and Geoff... honestly I've got no idea. Geoff seemed to be going quite well but apparently was off having whipped a ten split. His score seemed convincing enough and on the basis of that he can be awarded the win. 1-6 An excellent evening with some fantastic story-telling, great chat with friends and no-one forgetting what there opponent had scored. First time for me at TunWells and boy was it a beauty - best top I've played on this season. A lovely spread of food on the bar, I do love a samosa, rounded off the evening well with Redhill sneaking into third spot in the league. Away from the Redhillians, I must congratulate Brighton on winning the title - a brilliant season. Perhaps young "Silent" can use that to relieve his Merstham scars, watching master DC ruthlessly chase him down in week two of the season.

As I am away for the best part of ten days from this evening I would like to get the Inter League results and rankings updated before then. If possible would someone be able to either post on here or send me the scores this afternoon from West Sussex v Brighton A and Redhill B v Littlehampton? Thank you

West Sussex 2-5 Brighton A so 3 teams could win the title on the last day of the season. Calculators at the ready, but hopefully not required as the simple scenario - Brighton A win and the title is theirs, here is what happened.... **Ian Cross 2460 - 4900 Jim Millward - Ian first to go for the hosts, Nige deciding to go strong and put Jim on for us. Neither player at their best although Ian started well but went down four times on the break losing his 3k and giving Jim the balls back. Jim built a lead but never looking that comfortable and was off on 4k. Ian had a couple more breaks but could never really get going and Jim's next break sealed it to put us 1 up Barry Holt 1800 - 10,260 Matthew Knight** - one scary moment early on as a played a terrible one up and left it nowhere but decent shot to recover and got to 9k before deciding to pot and missed a straight 50. Would Baz have enough time? He needed the balls back pretty much straightaway but failed to do so and then the balls went awkward and that was that - 2 up and looking good Daniel Wheal 240 - 11,110 Phil Osborne** - up stepped the mighty Phil, one of the best players on the Prince top and he certainly proved that again tonight with a masterful 9.8k and touch giving Dan no chance and us a 3-0 lead and looking even better **Kevin Charlton 9210 - 3710 Chris Tupper - West Sussex Open runner-up v the struggling for fitness Tupps next. Coddy started well moving pretty easily to 5k but off, Tupps first to get them back but left the one up short on just under 3k, plenty of attempts from both players to get them back, Coddy first to do so and get the hosts on the board. Tupps took a nasty fall at the end of the evening, hope he is feeling ok this morning Martin Cole 15,790 - 120 Kevin Hall** - tough match for Kev, as he is not a great lover of the table and ended having the break against the very much in form Martin. Unfortunately an overhit first split from Kev ended with the red knocking the black over. A few attempts to get them back, Martin first to do so, easily to 8k so a surprise to see him come off. He was first to get them back though to make it 3-2 and the comeback on? Chris Cox 370 - 13,310 Bob Hall** - any thoughts of a comeback ended after a brilliant leg from Bob. Just a couple of thick splits which he soon recovered from, everything else clean 100 splits, touching on more than enough to give Chris no chance and the title now ours for sure. Well done to Bob as that is twice his leg has won us the trophy **Melissa Beach 860 - 8050 Nigel Senior - so with all the pressure now off our super captain stepped up in the seventh. He is not super on the Prince table too often! Mel with the break, she was very kind to Nige and pegged early on to give him the break. He got to about 3k but was off, so good job he waited until it was all over....he did get another go on the break and did well to get to 5k as he was getting plenty of verbals, I think he said mainly from me, really??? A pretty awesome performance gave us a comprehensive win on the night and clear winners of the title. It also meant we doubled up having won the One Day Interleague earlier in the season, it is not a feat achieved too often so we are very proud of that. Thanks to Nigel for his superb(ish) captaincy, he has avoided the "sack" for another season, brilliant performances from all the team when it mattered. Thanks to our extremely sporting hosts for a great night in excellent company. There was plenty of banter during the match and a late night as we tried to put the bar billiards world to right afterwards As for this from the friendliest (and longest) "Redhillian" scribe Away from the Redhillians, I must congratulate Brighton on winning the title - a brilliant season. Perhaps young "Silent" can use that to relieve his Merstham scars, watching master DC ruthlessly chase him down in week two of the season. thank you for your congratulations, no "scars" fella, just the trophies.... both of them

Congratulations to Dan Wheal who topped the Division One player averages this season. Dan won nine out of his ten games, finishing level on wins with Geoff Jukes but with a higher average.
Congratulations to Tom Pearse who topped the Division Two averages with a perfect eight out of eight record.
