Oxfordshire players did well in their own competition ! For the record, Last 16 in the main were: Dennis Atkins, Daniel Wheal, Jon Bamsey, Kyle Ingram, Mike Jones, Matt Jones, Vinny Brown, Curt Driver Mark Trafford, Gerry Fitzjohn, Dave Ingram, Phil Collins, James Whittle, Martin Smith, Phil Osborne, John Slee.
Plate Semi-finals were: Bob Osborne (Sus) v Alan Oliver (Ox) Matt Knight (Sus) v Melvyn Johnson (Ox)
Witnessed some great tussles: John Slee 13k up against Ozzie, Ozzie overhauled. Curt Driver 18k lead against Matt Jones, Matt overhauled.
Huge congratulations to FITZ, one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet, on winning his first Open Championship.
And many thanks to Traffs for laying on the tournament, an enjoyable day once again at the GWR Staff Cluib (in spite of my own abject failures ..)

Really unfair Clive …….

Really unfair Clive ……. No criticism whatsoever of the organisers inferred here, Curt: Quite the opposite in fact, was commenting on the general lack of excitement after the event from those who took part.

Firstly, congratulations to Gerry Fitzjohn for winning the Oxon Open on Saturday beating Matt Jones in the final to claim his first County Open title, both had played well all day and were deserved finalists. A big well done also to Melvyn Johnson for winning the Plate Competition and keeping some of the silverware up in Oxford. My thanks to the GWRSA Club for hosting the event and all involved in organising and running a very competitive tournament that gave us plenty of close games throughout the day. The only suggestions that I would like to make would be that it would be nice if there was an easily accessible chart providing updates of the times of games and the results of games that had been played and that (personally) I found it quite hard to hear Mark when he was announcing players & tables before the next series of games so possibly a microphone (or "Silent" ) could be used to enable old gits like me to be able to hear those next year?

In response to the other comments made.... The Oxon open is unique with it being played on a Saturday and with playing on the SUnday in another competition, i struggle to get any report posted until Monday night. I appreciate Clive's comments were probably not aimed at me personally In response to Dave's comments, i think this is the first time someone has said i dont talk loud enough I was offered a microphone but didnt think it was needed but i can change that for next year. With regards to the chart, i printed one out but left it on my desk at work and only realised when setting up on the Friday night, so when i got home, i wrote the one out by hand that was in front of the admin table! I will admit this is the only thing i always keep forgetting about! Any other comments regarding the day are gratefully received, so i can put on a better competition next year
