SCBBA One-Day Inter-League competitions at Burgess Hill Constitutional Club, Sat 24th and Sun 25th Feb
Saturday saw a most exciting finish to the B teams’ section, where any one of three teams could win, but Worthing B were victorious by a single point from Redhill B, who in turn just managed the 9pts they needed to finish above Brighton B. In a strange twist of fortune, Worthing and Redhill had only won one match each but Brighton B and Billingshurst B - 3rd and 4th respectively - two each (Billingshurst recovering from the worst possible start). Billingshurst's Ricky Dewdney had the top performance of the day, six wins from six at an average of 11,657.
Billingshurst B record: lost to Redhill B 4-17; beat Brighton B 12-9; beat Worthing B 11-10.
1- Worthing B 34pts; 2 – Redhill B 33pts,; 3 – Brighton B 32pts; , 4 - Billingshurst B 27pts.
Continuing the story, a great day today and it was heart-warming to witness Billingshurst A winning all their matches and in doing so booking their place next year at the top table (A teams, Div 1). Tunbridge Wells (relegated last year) finished just 2.5 points behind Billingshurst but 14 points ahead of 3rd place. The damage was done in Series 2 with Billingshurst A winning the crunch game with their main rivals to lead by 1 point but they still needed a good win in the last series to finish above them. A 16.5 – 4.5 defeat of Mid Sussex did the trick. Congratulations to Lee Cable, and Dick Dewdney (matching son Ricky a day earlier) in earning maximum points - as did England captain Curt Driver and Pete Sainsbury for Tunbridge Wells.
Billingshurst A record: beat Lewes 12-9; beat Tunbridge Wells 12-9; beat Mid Sussex 16.5 –4.5.
1 – Billingshurst A 40.5pts, 2 – Tunbridge Wells 38pts; 3 – Lewes 24pts, 4- Mid Sussex 23.5pts - Clive T
