The Ladies County Champs were held today in Reading, and here is a run down of what happened
Oxon A took their 5th county title from main rivals Sussex A. these two have occupied the top two positions every year since 2004. It was very close, and it was a three way fight going into the final games, as Kent and Sussex A led on 6 and Oxon A were one point adrift on 5. Sussex dropped a crucial leg to Kent but still won 4-1, so Oxon A required a 5-0 win over Sussex B, and a decent score to ovetake Sussex aggregate as they had both won 2 matches apiece. Pauline's team acheived this with Jenny Abbott and Jane Wood (coming from 3k down) won thier final legs. Oxon A and Sussex A were therfore tied on 10 pts and were seperated by aggregates of 57,130 to 47,170. Kent Ladies finished third and Sussex B were bottom and relegted to Div 2 after a 2 years stay in Division 1.
Highest break was made by Jenny Abbott of 6,040 which was crucial as it was a deciding leg against Jean Brackenridge. Bella Stoner, Sue Atkins and Gina Sherratt were unbeaten, Jane Wood won 2 from 3 but topped the div 1 averages with 4,993.

Div 2
Surrey A were fairly relentless in thei pursuit for div 1 status for 2008, and only dropped one leg all day. Not surprising really, as their team now included Jan Taylor, playing alongside Jo Pitt (ne Hogan), Alison Norman, Sheila King and Denise Wills. The first four of those were unbeaten along with Enid Wain who was the only player to take a leg of Surrey A. Jan Taylor hit the div 2 high break of 3,560, Alison Norman finished with the highest average of the whole day with 5,117. Oxon B were 2nd, 4 legs adrift, Surrey B third, and Bucks made a welcome return and although finished last would have gained from the experience.

F Oxon B 3 2 1 36,700 10
H Surrey B 3 1 2 24,260 4
