Well done to Joe Oakley on winning the Bucks Open yesterday. Joe defeated Mark Trafford in the final, Mark went first and I think it is fair to say he really struggled, having a number of breaks in the first leg but ending only about 3k in front. Joe decided for the slow and steady option in his break game making an excellent 9k opener which took up plenty of time and gave Mark no chance. Joe's victory meant he doubled his open wins. He played very well all day, but especially in both his quarter-final where he defeated Stephen Coleman and then an awesome 20k opener v Curt Driver in his semi final, where he took advantage of some early fortune to settle down and make a score that was too much for Curt who had been pretty much faultless up until that point.
Mark comfortably defeated John Slee in his semi-final and Coleman Snr in his quarter-final, well done to him on reaching the final. Other losing quarter-finalists were Dave Ingram and Martin Cole.
In a high quality Plate Final Jean Brackenridge built a near 9k lead with her opening break but Steven Sheard was in great form, playing very well to ease ahead with some excellent play, making up for his disappointment in losing a big break in his first main draw match. Well done to both Steven and Jean.
Pauline Withey won the ladies high break trophy and Nigel Senior the mens high break trophy, well done to both of them.
It was extremely hot in the venue but the standard of play was very high, thanks in no small part to the excellent tables which were set-up by Matt Jones, thanks for all his hard work to make them so good. His trusty side-kick Cliff Slade on hand to assist with the setting up so thank you to him too and to Alan Donovan for some heavy lifting on Friday. There were not many people left at the end but those that were there really stepped up to help take the tables down, thank you all.
Thank you to Dawn and Ernie Jordan for all the unseen hard work they did in the background with Dawn overjoyed with a maximum field for one of the best opens in the calendar. She wrote some lovely words about Charlie, which were well received by those present. She did a great job with the raffle too, lots of prizes and tickets sold, thank you to those that donated and for Pauline's assistance with the tickets.
Nigel, as always, spot on with the format so thank you to him for that. Seemed to be a good day with the scorers so thanks to those who went above and beyond.
A huge thank you to all of you who came to our Open yesterday - we hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks to all the staff at the Totteridge Community Centre for all your hard work.
A massive congratulations to Joe Oakley on winning, Mark Trafford for getting to the final and to Curt and John Slee the losing semi finalists. Congratulations to Steven Sheard on winning the plate and a special mention to my partner in crime Jean - the losing finalist - she played amazing all day.
Pauline won the ladies highest break and the mens went to Nigel Senior with his break of 20 something - can't remember hahahaha - ok 23,050!
Thank you to Cliff, Alan, Stan, Deano, Syl, Ernie, Ray, Miles, Andy and especially Matt for setting the tables up, all the people who donated raffle prizes, Pauline for folding the tickets, Nigel for doing the format AGAIN, the people who scored throughout the day, and to everyone who helped us take the tables down on Sunday evening, without you guys staying to help we would struggle, so thank you, and lastly to Nigel & Matthew, who without hesitation always agree to run it for us - you were both amazing - you get no choice about next year :)
