Guernsey retains the Barbilliards inter insular in Jersey
The evening started with the traditional friendly match for the 2 reserves. Leon Ogier managed to beat Tim Barnett 5310 - 660
Jersey the had a strong start to the official match as they took a 2-0 lead with win for Dave Lomax and Graemme le monier
Dave had the break in the opening games and beat mat Ogier 5040 - 1090.
Graemme then managed to beat Paul Dyer against the break with 3510 - 1150. With Jersey now looking strong guernsey were able to call upon the Channel Islands best player trevor Gallienne to put their first point and add a decent aggregate advantage. Jenny Noel had the opening break but with Trevor a formidable opponent waiting for his chance. Jenny managed a small score but of 1300. But Trevor showed his class again with 11250.
Roy le page then pulled guernsey level on points with a small victory over new comer Amber Hopwood. Winning with just 2760 v 1160.
Paul le gallez then met Emma Noel who has won her last 2 inter insular matches and had the opening break. If was always going to be a strong test for one of guernseys top players.
Although Paul managed to get over the line in what was a close game with only 1460 points between the two. 2570- 1110.
Guernsey now in a strong position leading 3-2 and with an aggregate advantage of 6700. They also had guernsey number 2 ranked player to come and with the opening break. He though faced he Jersey island champion in Sean le Beuvant.
Ian had to ensure he won or ensured Sean won with less than 6700 to retain the trophy.
Although Sean did come back to win it was only by less than 1300 and the guernsey team were able to celebrate.
Attentions then flipped to see who would become channel island individual champion.
Trevor Gallienne v Sean le Beuvant.
Sean had the opening break and comfortably won the first game with 7640 v 850. It was now up to Trevor to take advantage of his break to not only catch Sean but set a score that prevented his opponent coming back. Trevor showed why he is a multiple winner in this event as he ran up a break of 12100 and take the honors for another year.
