A brilliant day of bar billiards culminated in Colin Smith winning his first Brighton Off the Spot title defeating Kevin Hall in the closest of finals. After multiple count ups Colin needed the 100 to win and sunk it first time.
Well done to Colin on a great win and to the gutted runner up Kev. A small consolation was that Kev took home the high break prize.
Colin had finished second in his group, he beat Ian Lelliott with a dominant performance in the quarter final, he rode his luck in the semi-final v the excellent Kev Stoner and then kept his cool in the final.
Kev also finished second in his group, he beat Jim Millward in a fairly close quarter final, then a great 16k break to chase down Stuart Mepham in his semi-final.
Other group winners were Bob Hall and Chris Tupper, who won 5 out of 5 in his group.
Martin Smith beat Bob Osborne in the Plate Final, well done to both of them.
Tables were extremely good, but still offering different tests.
Plenty of thank yous, to the incredible Stuart Mepham and Kevin Hall for all their hard work on Saturday in getting the tables off the van and ready for play. To Jim Millward for hosting us, moving the furniture, and for his help with the admin during the day, especially in Nigel's absence, thanks to Nige though for the format. Thank you to Heather for the food. Also big thanks to Ian Lelliott for looking after the money and making sure everyone paid. Finally, helping Stu and Kev take down the tables were the incomparable Tony Jenner and Chris Tupper, together with Joe Oakley doing plenty of heavy lifting. Grateful to both Zoe Stoner and Sandra Hall for clearing up and moving the bits for the van.
Hope everyone had a great day and got home safely
Saturday's Masters write up to follow

Well what a day, first i would echo Matts comments and thank all involved with setting up the event.Added to that the ongoing efforts from Matt,Jean, Nigel,Stuart,Kev and Tony i may criticise some decisions but thats not to be confused with a lack of appreciation. Best of luck to Heather and Jim in their new ventures and thanks for all their sterling efforts to give a home to Brighton Bar Bills. Now what about the surprise to all , including me,of a win for the old boy. I rode my luck and should have been beaten by Rick,Steve,Little legs and probably Kev in the final, but the will to win still prevails and a variety of pegs, lost breaks, longer clock and not getting the table until too late conspired to give me a win. Personally my star of the day was Kev Stoner, destroying the unbeaten Tupps and throwing away his chances of a go in the final by not touching up when i had no idea of the table. So 57 years after i started playing this wonderful game i get a day to remember, thanks to all who contributed.
