Understand Tunbridge Wells will need to postpone this fixture and will suggest we play on Sunday 3rd November instead as only one of the few spare Sunday`s available. Just waiting confirmation from their captain.

Morning Tommo, I believe the game was played at the Merstham club Redhill A vs Brighton A.. 🤔 I thought that was a bit strange, I was obviously misled by a throwaway remark that a mutual acquaintance was seen at the Henty last night. A turning over at Merstham makes far more sense !

West Sussex 3 Worthing A 4
Strange night at the Prince of Wales, with the Worthing captain off gallivanting in London at the Grid iron football, it was left to vice skipper KT to do the honours. This is a new top on the Prince table and it caught several players out on various shots, only one player winning their break game as well.
Ian Cross 2500 v 10880 Chocie - Ian never settled and Stu took advantage with a couple of breaks Barry Holt 9440 v 6310 Mike Daw - Mike settled in nicely and didn’t look like missing until an over hit one up on 6k whipped out. Good response from the old man of the squad with 9k Dan Wheal 3220 v 8290 Martin Smith - Three attempts by Martin to win this one , Dan no luck up the table Gareth C 5370 v 5820 Gary Ridley - nip and tuck at the start then Gareth made a good 5k break, Gary had just enough time to catch up as the bar dropped Martin Cole 7220 v 5530 Terry M - Terry started ok then on his second sequence the hearing packed up and put the balls down 4 times doh. Martin made a quick fire 6700 but left time for Molly to catch, several shots up the table ate the time up and Martin held on Coxy 7370 v 5630 KT - All was going well for me until I caught a split fat and came off up the top, several attempts each to clear and Chris did so first and made enough Mel Beach 1430 v 7850 Stu C - comfortable win for Stu with two breaks to give us the points.
Thanks to Colin for a nice spread of Ham, Chicken nuggets and chips

Minteh. Rutter! WELBECKKKK!!! It's fair to say Brighton couldn't be happier with the merry Millward (and Sleezy) rather happy to remind one and all of the events at the Amex that afternoon. Who could blame them? A stunning victory from the brink of defeat perhaps Fabian Herzeler will be drafted in to manage the defending champs after a bruising night at the Merstham Village Club. With the start delayed slightly the game got underway rather worryingly for the home side. They, of course, had come off the back of a bitterly disappointing loss to Tunbridge Wells in the opening week and Geoff managed to whip out the white on the opening break shot.. 150 was his start. It's likely Tupps wasn't expecting such an early opportunity and he sprung from his chair like a prized Salmon and he was into action. A neat clearance and off Tupps trotted. A steady accumulation ended at a shade over 3k and the classic battle of the back then ensued. Thankfully for the home side it was Geoff who got them back first and a typically methodical 6k and tap was enough to save the first frame and get the home side on the board. 1-0 Next up was the Brighton fan duel and Jim got off to a good start with a nice 4k break before the white spat out on the break and he was off. Sleezy mopped up straight away but he couldn't find the pace of the table, regularly leaving the red short on the break and when the white spat out as well he was off on 2k. At this point it was almost as if mind games were going on... did Jim want to go 2-0 down to replicate the afternoon heroics and was Sleezy weary of the impending doom of being 2-0 up? After all this fixture last year saw Brighton get into a 2-0 lead only for Redhill to reel off the next five for a stunning victory! With three minutes to go Sleezy got the balls back, but he could only add 1k to leave him 1.2k behind. Once again Slee was the first to retrieve the balls with 90 seconds to go and this time he found his way on the break, slowly slowly catchy monkey. 200 up and SLAM goes the bar, 20-30 seconds long. Pot, pot, pot and instead of being 1-1, Redhill were 2 up. 2-0 So at the dreaded 2-0 scoreline Captain Nige threw his big gun to the table, the home hero and true Bar Billiards Bandit Kurama, more commonly known as Matt "nine-leagues" Knight. Ready to tuck into the luxurious chocolate cake provided by home captain Colin (clear favoritism as no such luxuries were afforded to the home players) Matt looked good as he made his way to 4k before leaving the red up on the break. A bit of potting and Matt had left a 100-30 push through. It was probably a bit narrower than he'd have liked and he just caught the lip of the 100 which spat the ball straight through the left-hand peg. Harsh would be understating it. Colin had gone early with his big gun and Dave made no mistake, getting the balls back with a minimal amount of fuss and looking serene on his way to 6.5k and tap to add a thrid leg into the ledger for Redhill! 3-0 So having got past the dreaded 2-0 were Redhill home and hosed? Well if I told you Ricky quadrupled Geoff's opening break you'd usually think that he'd made an immaculate table run out, but in this case he'd left the split wide and misjudged the 10 split, leaving the white awkwardly behind the 30 to come off with 600!! So another great opener and, knowing they had to punish any mistake, Nige had put himself up. However he was unable to recover the balls on the tricky top and it was Ricky who managed too. This time he made no mistake with an excellent 8k and tap. Nige didn't have time to catch but added a swift 5k, coming off with less than a minute to go, showing the table was playable if you got hold of it. 4-0 So, victory to Redhill but could they go further? After that disappointing opening defeat they will need some big wins to stay in contention for the title and so there sights were set on making this a big win. Next up Bob came to the table and was playing quick, probably too quick for the Merstham top. The familiar sight of the white popping out on the break once again haunting a player and Bob was off. So a vital interlude saw Bob (or Bobble) search for a victorious end. But Gary was in no mood to let him do that and, despite a couple of goes each, Gazza got the break back and looked in good touch as he tapped up at 6.5k. If Bob could get them back and speed away there may have been time, especially as the bar went long, but it was Gary who retrieved the balls and racked up the nights high score, much to Ricky's disappointment! 5-0 So the clean sweep was still on and Captain Col was pitted against Kev. With the Brighton teams mood going from shock to banter mode in a jiffy, Kev looked good to wrap things up first time in a now boisterous atmosphere. A 5k opener was the best of the night so far but Kev managed to leave both balls hanging on the break! Colin has been in fine form of late and he wasn't going to let this opportunity pass, getting the balls back immediately and racking up 7k and tap like it was nothing, a grin and fist bumps all round as he came off. Kev was then unfortunate to black peg, a double kiss while potting on the 50s sending a white straight into the black, but at that point the leg was in the Redhill ledger. 6-0 So, the cleanest of chimney sweeps was on! With the win sealed DC kindly gave Michael the opportunity to go last and maybe it was fitting that the man who has spent many an hour cleaning steam locomotive fireboxes would be the one to attempt to finish the clean sweep! Phil must have known that the possibility of an early chance was high as Redhill's breakers had aggregated 750 on their opening attempts thus far. Michael added a further 400, again the white spitting out on the break caught him out to make a wonderful total of 1150 from Redhill's three breaks. Phil, however, couldn't get them back and Michael made no mistake as he made his way to 4k before the red fell off the spot as he took the break. This time Phil mopped up but the morning Weetabix had clearly worn off, the one-up was a day late and a dollar short. Michael got them back but, seeking his first win with the break this season, butchered a 10 split to leave Phil time. It wasn't to be though, as Michael retrieved the break and finished off to seal a remarkable whitewash! 7-0 So an incredible game which kickstarted the home sides season and a first whitewash for the visitors since the 2015-16 season, that being another defeat at the hands of Redhill - one which DC remembers fondly. Next time out both teams travel to Worthing, Redhill make the trip to the Alexandra while Brighton have a second big fixture in a matter of weeks as they make the short hop over to the Henty.

| Week 2 | | | | 03-Nov | Worthing B | | | Tunbridge Wells | | Roger Taylor * | 7810 | 2380 | Bryan Stevens | | James Whittle | 1830 | 9190 | Gerry Fitzjohn * | | Dave Jones | 2790 | 3610 | Kyle Ingram * | | Rick Cunningham * | 9560 | 1650 | Ian Wright | | Dave Ingram | 6830 | 7870 | Curt Driver * | | Tony Jenner | 3160 | 2970 | Pete Sainsbury * | | Brian Richards * | 4860 | 5230 | Martin Russell | | 3 | 36840 | 32900 | 4 |
Roger played a steady game and although Bryan had his chances, Roger was always in control. Gerry a very good opener leaving James no chance. Kyle lost his opener when pegging and giving Dave the break back but Dave not able to take advantage. Both then had plenty of chances but it was Kyle that got over the line. Rick off early and Ian had the break back but likewise off early, Rick then making sure the game was brought back to 2-2. Curt going well with a couple of excursions but at 7.5k caught the split thick leaving both up. Dave a very good clear and set about chasing, going well but struggling to get the break cleanly and like Curt one or two excursions. As Dave was closing the gap it was always going to be tight but the bar dropped 25 seconds earlier than the previous games just as Dave hit the split so the red was lost. Dave about 600 down and tried to leave the one up back to dink into the 200 but left the white hanging over the hole, leaving Curt to clean up and nick the win. Pete off very early than all can be said is that he and TJ tried their hardest not to win the game by poor shot selection, pegs and spin outs at the back of the table. As they entered the last minute Pete got the break back around 1200 down, playing the time out Pete left the last ball with either playing needing the 100 to win, Pete first to try and hit the hole but bounced out, TJ with home knowledge sunk it first go so a decider. Brian going well 100 splitting to 4k but left the one up a bit awkward, in two minds of what shot to play Brian was off but kept his score. Martin first to get them back and off at around 2.5k. Brian them next to get them back but off quickly. Martin the next to get them back and needed to stay there which he did to take the spoils for the visitors. A good night against Tunbridge plenty of banter oohs and aahs and friendly chat. Thank you to our hosts at the Alex for the pizzas. The reverse fixture at Tunbridge Wells has been rearranged as they will not have a team available on the 26th January so we have agreed to play on 2nd March.
