Everyone needs to be there at that time so there are enough scorers to go round. I think Nigel is keeping the draw under wraps!

A good day yesterday and thank you to Nigel for all his hard work organising a day where he has to fit in 4 competitions (and a high entry for the old gits competitions to contend with) , overall it ran very smoothly and I know that not everyone was pleased with the format, but if you think you could do better step up to the plate. Thanks to Matt K for doing all the announcing and getting everyone to their tables and scorers arranged. To the club for hosting and especially to Matt J and Cliff for all their hard work (yesterday and at all events at Totteridge) in getting the tables set up so that a very high standard of bar billiards was on display.
Good to see some new faces and well done to Jason Neal winning the Over 50s and Alan Oliver on winning the Over 60s (sure once he has time to recover from his marathon day yesterday Nigel will when he gets time will give full details)
The Mens Singles was won by Curt Driver and the Ladies by Jean Brackenridge (who won on aggregate score from Janet Burns).
Lastly thanks to all that made it a fun day to be part of.

Congratulations to all of the winners of the competitions held at Totteridge yesterday, great to see so many people there for another well run day of Bar Billiards. I would certainly like to add my thanks to the very hard-working Admin Desk Team of Nigel, Jean and Matt K for everything they do to provide these events for us, both on the day of the events (often giving up their time when they are not even playing in any of the competitions personally) and also in advance with getting entries and working out the formats for these events, also to Matt J and Cliff for setting up some very good tables for us all to play on. Your work is truly appreciated by us all. Many thanks also to the Totteridge Club for their continued support in hosting the AEBBA Tournaments for us every year, it's an ideal venue in many ways being fairly centrally positioned for nearly all of the Counties that support these events and they always provide a good selection of food and drink for us and provide a warm and friendly welcome. As Tony (BigTJ) briefly mentioned in his post, a few people were probably disappointed with the format of the Over 50's and 60's Competitions, primarily over the fact that there was no Plate Competition meaning that 50% of the entrants only had 1 game in those competitions. I can understand their feelings about that, however adding more games on the day was simply not possible for the organisers on the day to fit into the schedule. I am confident that the organisers will look at alternatives for future competitions to see if any changes can be made and have edited this post to remove the suggestions that I had previously put forward. Thanks again to them for all of their hard work for us all.

Thanks Tony and Dave for your comments.
I try to make sure everyone has at least 3 legs of bar billiards to play when they enter events as that is standard for an open but for the few people who played the over 50's only it was not possible. I tinkered with the idea of single leg groups but it doesnt really work well as group winners will have to progress only and inevitably someone will not get a chance in a break game and be eliminated unfairly, and at least in a straight knockout you will get a break game. I didnt really consider splitting the AE players into two groups as a group of 3 play just 2 matches and for me to qualify and just get 2 matches in the finals seems harsh.
Over the past few years I have discovered you cant keep everyone happy. At the same event players have complained they do not have enough games and then others complained that they had too many!
A couple of points though I will raise now - If you enter an All England competition, expect a wait in between matches as there are other competitions going on at the same time. (You can always score a game or two to keep you occupied!) - Dont expect an early finish (although I do recall an open or two finishing past midnight so no events I have done run that late) - write the day off to bar billiards. If your bed time is before 10pm you might be losing a bit of beauty sleep..... - There will be a number of options and formats to be considered for each event, and I have to make a decision on which way I will go and as mentioned above this will not be to the taste of everyone. However, what would be constructive would be if someone would think there is an alternative that they actually prepare that format and how it would work so it can be considered. I am quite open to other options. But although things have been said at events as to why is the format not this, no one has come to me with a viable alternative solution for any event so far and why this way would work better.
