The National Mixed Pairs was won by Kevin & Hayley Tunstall who beat Dennis & Sue Atkins in the final. Dennis & Sue led by 3,320 after leg 1, but when Hayley and Sue did little with their opening efforts in leg 2 a 10kbreak by KT on tough table 4 seales his 4th mixed pairs title (& first with Hayley).
There was a slightly disappointing entry of 19 pairs (compared with 22 last year and 31 the year before). These pairs were split into 4 groups, 3 of 5 pairs and 1 of 4 pair. Group winners would progress.
Group A was won by Dennis & Sue Atkins. They won a crunch game with champions Richard Wooton & Jean Brackenridge, and went onto win all 4 matches without dropping a leg.
Group B was won by Hampshire pair Chris Newson & Chris Toner, they were unbeaten dropping only 1 leg. Jason Wadsworth & Cherry Dinsmore were second but only recorded 2 wins
Group C was won by Kevin Tunstall & Hayley Tunstall winning all 8 legs. Nigel Senior & Caroline Retfalvi were unable to mount a significant challenge but finished group runners up winning 2 out of 4.
Group D was won by 2005 champs Keith Sheard & Pauline Withey. They won the group decider between themselves and Dave Alder & Jackie Watson.
In the semi finals Dennis & Sue were 2k down at the break but came back with 9k in leg 2. KT & Hayley won thorugh easier than expected against Keith & Pauline, carrying a 6k lead into leg 2, a KT break got them over the line.
Jean Brackenridge took home something for the reigning champs with the high ladies break of 9,140.

Yes, congratulations to Kevin and Hayley - champions this time around, after coming soo close last year.
The competitive games the night before in Northants must have helped, though we didn't leave the Courthouse Inn till midnight !
Your stamina over the course of such a busy weekend is to be admired.

Thanks everyone, just a great weekend all round really. And a big thankyou to my lovely wife :-* for playing so well in the group stages. The semis & final were on two tricky tops, certainly not easy for the ladies, who don`t get to play on these tables as much as the rest of us. Hard luck to Den & Sue in the final
