Below is a list of leagues across the country affected by Bar Billiards Ltd's withdrawal. I thought it might be an idea to try to keep tabs on which ones have been saved from closure, and which ones need tables bought to save them. Please update below on whether your league has been saved or has gone the other way. I think I have all the leagues but fell free to let me know if there are any I have missed.
Kent 1 Tunbridge Wells - three tables 2 Dover & Deal - three plus a Leisure Link 3 Medway 4 Maidstone Oxon 5 Oxford 6 Wallingford 7 Eynsham 8 Witney Surrey 9 Redhill Hampshire 10 Portsmouth
Cambridgeshire 11 Cambridge
Northants 12 Northampton Buckinghamshire 13 High Wycombe Berkshire 14 Reading Sussex (all ok not BBL) 15 Brighton 16 Worthing 17 Mid Sussex 18 West Sussex 19 Eastbourne 20 Littlehampton 21 Lewes 22 Horsham 23 Billingshurst Hastings (is it still going?) 24 Jersey - ok not BBL 25 Guernsey - ok not BBL

I spoke to our Chairman Terry Oakley last night and he confirmed that everything is now in place to ensure the continuance of the Redhill League. :)

Very good news Tommo, I will highlight all the leagues that are safe in yellow. Lets hope I can have some more positive responses and a few more 'yellow' leagues in the near future.

Following our EGM and a lot of effort by everyone concerned, the Witney league will be at full strength next season (tablewise anyway)
cheers Tony

That is more very good news re Witney Tony.
Cambridge is a big worry, with not only the loss of a league but also a county at stake. It may be a final blow to them after not even making the county champs last year.
According to Johnny’s website there are 11 teams spread across 9 venues, only 4 of which appear on the BB Ltd list (although one of them is Johnny’s pub the White Swan). That would leave them with 5 venues although I don’t know the exact status of these (are they the leisure link ones or privately owned??). But there must be a chance to save their league. It would be nice to hear from Johnny though on their situation.

Although Johnny has been a strong voice and really active member of our Forum in the past, remember he's still very young and probably not influencial at County level.
The most pro-active member of Cambridgeshire has always been Keith MacDonald and it would be he - if anyone - who would know what is going on.
Has anyone thought of contacting him ?
Bucks is my offering for a matter of real concern: So many BB-Ltd tables in High Wycombe and no voice on the forum other than Merv (Yearwood). Still, Ray Hussey is Bucks, so perhaps he has been able to broker a special deal with Ken. Let's hope so.

Thetable listed in the Medway area does not form part of our League structure, as the venue in Question lost the team that played there some 5 years ago, and also has changed hands since that time. I, as president of the CBBL ( MA ), wrote to the venue some 6 months ago, informing the licencee that our league was still a going concern, and as yet had no reply to my letter, and also no phone call from the venue either. On that basis, I can only presume that :-
1, The landlord / manager has no interest in getting a team or 2 The ex-players who maybe still use the venue are no longer interested in playing the game.
The CBBL ( MA ) is still going ( although not that strong ) with, at this time 10 teams although what the future holds after this season is anybodies guess. I think we will continue next year but with how many teams, and for how long. We do not have any " young blood " coming into the game down here.

And as if by magic ....................
We in darkest Cambridgeshire have 11 teams in the league, four of which are affected by BBL decision. Already two landlords have said they will buy their tables, The Nelson's Head and The White Horse. There is a new landlord in my pub, The White Swan, but things are looking quite good. That leaves us with the Seven Stars - we are still trying to make contact. All in all the league should not falll as all other tables are either privately owned or run by other operators.
Will keep everyone updated as soon as anything changes.
Keith

Hi all, currently in our league we have 8 pubs that have league tables. Two of the venues already own their tables. The landlord of my local is currently tring to persuade his boss to purchase their table ( we have three teams playing from there), and it looks promising. It looks definate that we are going to lose one of the venues anyway, so that leaves the others. We should have more info next week. Merv

As far as Reading goes I cannot provide any information as I don't get involved with the running of the league.
Tunbridge Wells, however, I did attend the EGM where funds were secured to buy 4 tables, the existing 3 in the league plus 1 other. Obviously subject to the landlords not taking up their option.

Hi Everyone
A update from the Oxford League.
At present it's all ongoing. No Pubs Mentioned it's look like we are losing two venues, but have saying that we hope to gain another venue ( Hopefully more). Other Pubs and Clubs in our league look very promising. Discussions and meetings are under way and we are just waiting the outcome from all concerned before our next move.

What about that Suffolk league? i see that there not on any list so i wonder what their table situation is? Check the sister thread on this board called "Bar Billiards Ltd", Ian, and on the last page (5 of 5) you will find a breakdown of the affected tables by County. For convenience I lumped the two Suffolk ones in with Cambridgeshire. There's one in Newmarket and one in Ipswich. So if we assume that the Ipswich one is played on in the Sudbury League, that's the only one of their tables at risk and their remainder must be either brewery controlled or privately owned.

Dover and Deal decided, last night, to follow the table consortium route.
Cash pledges were not a problem, guaranteed manpower to run it when the dust has settled was, and is, a concern.

Thanks to everyone for all the news on their leagues, and it looks promising, we haven't had any confirmation of a league folding as of yet, and most leagues have said they have plans in place to keep their leagues going. Well done to commitees for reacting so quick to the situation.
Remember all the yellow highlighted leagues are the ones that will still be going next year. I will wait for more news on Reading, Portsmouth, High Wycombe and Maidstone (has Maidstone definitely got a league). Although correct me if any of the 'yellow' leagues are not yet safe, or if there are any leagues I have missed (eg Suffolk???)

There is still a league going in Maidstone, but for how much longer is very debatable. We here in the Medway league offered them amalgamation with us on more than 1 occasion, the last offering being within the last 6 months. They have at this moment in time declined the offer, as, in the words of one of the players, " we are not to keen to travel to Medway, as it is to far ". The distance between the two areas is less than 10 miles, and the furthest a team would have to travel from the Maidstone leageu as it is now, would be in the region of 25 miles round trip, and that is from Sutton Valence, which is about 5 - 6 miles from Maidstone. At this time as far as I am aware, there is only 3 venues left, with 5 teams playing, so the future does not look very good for this league. It is also worth mentioning that they are not affiliated to the K.B.B.A. any longer, as they say that it is no longer affordable. It looks like the situation here in the garden of England will go from 4 leagues, down to 3 in the very near future.

It is also worth mentioning that they are not affiliated to the K.B.B.A. any longer, as they say that it is no longer affordable. Off Topic. I did get through a resolution to abolish affiliation fees at A KBBA AGM three years ago. The small amounts involved were not much of a loss and it kept Maidstone on board. That, unfortunately in my view, was overturned and affiliation fees reintroduced two years ago. Maidstone are thus no longer affiliated to KBBA Sav

Well it's good news, it would appear that we are only going to lose one venue from our league. All the rest of the tables are already owned or are being bought. Regards Merv

If you occasionally crossed the border out of Oxford "Pewtee", you would know. Have you never bumped into Merv? I thought that was how you got your broken nose.
Please excuse my jocularity. I feel happy this morning after over 7 hours sleep!!!!!
