Used to be!! He was landlord of the Plough & Harrow Bridge, where I used to play in the Canterbury league, though his memory of scores has got exaggerated. I assume he was talking about my 24100 highest ever score and break in the Canterbury league. The 'Oxford' shot was only a small contribution to the demise of the Canterbury league, there were other reasons. A staunch supporter of the game and classic local pubs, he now has a pub in Faversham. A truly old style landlord and a very pleasant person. Sav.

Good find, Q. An interesting article, but thoroughly annoying as it contains such a sweeping statement which is only one man's view.
Any outsider reading that would think that bar billiards has brought about its own demise - whereas the advent of pool, stringent drink-driving laws and mass conversion of pubs to restaurants is chiefly to blame.
Personally, I think the discovery of the 'Oxford' shot has brought a new dimension to the game. Attempting to play it has I feel made my own game a lot less dour (and dire !).
Nice chap that he is, Mr McLean has not done bar billiards a great service with his article. >:(

While I agree with most of Tommo's sentiments, at least Chris McLean took the time and the trouble to write the article - which may help to raise awareness with the licensed trade of the problem our game is facing. There is an old saying "any publicity is good publicity"........ so, for that we should thank him....... even if I can't remember who it was who said it.......?? ::)
