Congratulations to the new Sussex Team Captains Champion the BB Reaper, who was a very worthy winner against me tonight.
It was a very good turnout, thanks for all those in attendance, including Nigel, Hayley and K.T. who scored. And to Jean for her little speech and presentation.
It was a real fun night, and though at long periods of the match I was 'under the cosh', I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done again to Kevin.
Here's a little commentary of the match:
Game 1. My break, 450 and off (break had gone in so easily that I misjudged the pace of the one-up and finished nowhere near. Kev replied with 2.5k and I matched it on my next visit and left them awkward. I got them back again and was feeling pretty good on 2k having just worked out how to leave it for the split. But my first attempt whipped out and behind the 100, right up the middle line of the table. With it rolling slightly right all over, I shaved the black and toppled it. Kevin then got his act together and punished my mistake, finishing with over 7k.
Game 2. Kevin raced away into an early lead, but must have been disappointed on lodging only 2k on the scoreboard. The table was difficult to clear at the back and we both struggled for a while. I joked that I was dragging Kevin down to my level, but was secretly pleased that I had stemmed his flow. I kept believing and my chance came at the end and I didn't waste it this time, winning by 5k - 3k.
The decider. Kev won the toss and decided to break. Again, he came off at around the 2.5k mark. I was so surprised that I only got one ball in off the break and chased around the table for a miserable 500. The Reaper now really slotted into the groove, and seven thousand flowed off the scythe, thanks to some good split shots with check side to counteract the roll. He had obviously resolved to hold them as he started straight potting fifties but somehow his cue ball planted itself up the middle line of the table again. He played off the side cushion to hold, but misjudged it. 7k lost ! I managed to score off the same shot but couldn't clear the other ball, and with still a few minutes left, failed to make any sort of inroad into the gap which was only 1500. It would have been a real miscarriage of justice had Kev failed to win after his superb break on a rather challenging Dyke table. Well done, m8. 8-)

An enjoyable and entertaining final to watch! ;D
When Kevin lost the 7k break in the decider, I thought that he had lost his chance especially when Tommo managed to pot the red ball into the hundred hole off the ball that Kevin had missed up the middle of the table...... but it was not to be for Tommo. :'(
Well played Kev, who thoroughly deserved his victory..... bad luck Tommo who, as always, was as gracious in defeat as he is in victory. 8-) ;D
Looking forward to seeing the picture of the Grim Reapers return after the match...... an excellent little cameo moment from Tommo! ;D ;D ;D

Have I entered into a world of lovey dovey quotes, how is a sour old puss like me supposed to survive if a sickly feeling comes on when entering bar billiard conversations.
All too much for me!!!
