Don't Fear The Reaper. ;D
A very good strategy, one I've adopted myself in the past.
I prepared for my Final against Q a few years ago by playing "Eye of the Tiger" ;D

Another Mid Sussex Finals Night has passed, not without its drama, and some ‘firsts’ were achieved along the way. The mighty BB Warrior lifted both the Mens Singles title and the 1st Division singles title – the first person ever to achieve this. The Ladies Singles cup will have a new name on it as Lynn Storr managed to win it in her first Final appearance. The BB Reaper lifted both the Open Doubles and the Mixed Doubles title, with a different female partner each time. His Mixed Doubles partner Lady H has won FOUR Mixed Doubles awards in the same season (three in leagues in Sussex, plus the National Title with hubby K.T.) – undoubtedly a record. And the Reaper also managed a strange but unenviable record: losing a final 1-2 after clocking up an impressive 13k in the first frame. And Handcross Z managed a strange ‘double’ : Premier Champs and Team PLATE winners – the first season for 15 that they had been dumped out of the main competition ! Winners and runners-up, following the order of play:
Team Plate Final: Handcross Z 3, Hurst A 2 C.Thompson 5620, D.Ingram 2870 J.Turner 1300, R.Wells 2200 G.Daniels 5150, P.Hall 1480 B.Timson 1530, K.Hall 4280 M.Holmwood 5540, B.Hall 1250
Team Cup Final: Greyhound 3, Plough 2 T.Rees 3890, D.Gasson BP P.Burchell 4450, M.Webber 760 P.Goodwin 3290, K.Potter 3890 N.Burchell BP, M.Fuller 5360 G.Fairs 2650, G.Parsons 1520
Charity League Brewers Bravos bt Watermill B
Open Doubles Lorraine & Kevin Hall bt Andy Farmer-Wright & Richard Jeffrey
1st Div Singles Dave Ingram 2, Kevin Hall 1
Ladies Singles Lynn Storr 2, Ros Appleby 1
Mens Singles Dave Ingram bt Graham Sparksman
Mixed Doubles Kevin Hall & Hayley Tunstall 2, Trevor Rees & Jean Cook 1
England Number 1 Kevin Tunstall was on hand to present the prizes.
Adam Bateup won the Speedbreak prize (over 1000 in a minute) – well done to him. The Sportsman Inn received a cup for the most funds raised in the Charity League. Lorraine Hall and Jenny Edwards were presented with the Sussex Ladies Doubles Cup which they had won earlier in the year.
There were other awards for the League, Performance awards etc which can be detailed later, but all of those present witnessed a strange and mysterious – almost mystical – event during the course of the Ladies Singles Final……..
An enormous moth (someone present described it as a Hawkshead Moth) landed on Lynn’s top while she was waiting her turn at the table. She didn’t notice it at first, but it looked like an enormous brooch and a ripple of laughter went round the room. When she eventually spotted it and brushed it away, it flew straight towards the table and took the black peg out !!! Needless to say a huge cheer heralded this feat. This inspired comments such as “I didn’t realise John Slee had come along tonight and opened his wallet” and “I bet there’s nothing in the All-England Rules to cover that !”
Anyway, a great evening, enjoyed by all those present, players and spectators alike. Well done to the Mid Sussex Committee, and especially Lorraine Hall for her tireless efforts, in once again making it all possible.

I would certainly add my words of thanks to Lorraine and the rest of the Committee for all of their hard work in organising the evening...... and to the Hurst Club itself who hosted us so well - as always! ;D
Congratulations to all of the winners on the night, commiserations to the losers in some really good and close matches in all of the Finals. 8-)
For myself, I am still in something of a state of shock this morning at having won both singles...... :o
The match against Kevin was probably the toughest that I have ever had...... his break (13,690 :o) in the first game was great to watch ;) 8-) - but a nitemare for me in my break game! :-/ :-[ :(
I definitely had the luck of the balls in game 2 and the decider could so easily have gone either way. Kevin's a great opponent and he has had a fantastic season (again!) this year - I'm sure that he will be back next year and tougher than ever. ;) 8-)
In the other match against Sparky, I had something of an advantage having already played 4 games on the evening while Graham was coming in cold.
It was a shame that the table we played on was nowhere near as good as either of the others that I had played on already...... the break was almost impossible and there were numerous rolls that weren't even consistant.... >:(
The first game was very close..... and very low scoring. :( In the second game, although I got a reasonable start, Sparky played some some brilliant shots to get the break back.... only to miss it. :( The same happened later in the game, which made the final score more one-sided than the match deserved to be. >:(
Unfortunately, I didn't see the moth incident in the Ladies Final which will doubtless be recorded in the history of the League ( :o) but congratulations to Lynn in overcoming BOTH of her tough opponents....!! ;D 8-)
My thanks to everybody for their support on the night, greatly appreciated. ;D

Rule 31 in the old rules That's been lost somehow in the new rules and obviously needs peg (kamikaze juggernaut moth) disturbance added to it!! One for another thread!! Well done to all who took part and to the organisers Sav.

A Big Well Done to Mama Hall for the organising of the evening and to the rest of the committee.
A Big well done to all the winners and comiserations to the losers.
Well played mum in our open doubles final. On what was the trickiest table of the evening. It was nice to win it after being Knocked out in the semi final 2 years running 3rd time is always definately lucky.
Well done to you BB Warrior for winning our singles match. It appeared that me playing the table out for 13690 wasn't enough to rattle you like it would most opponents. You kept your cool and deserved the win.
The Biggest well done from me has to go to my mixed doubles partner Lady H who i can say is a very strong lady as she had to carry me through all 3 legs of our final. I couldn't hit a beach ball through a barn door whilst sitting on the latch. Lady H you are awsome, Hope you will partner me next year to hold the title 3 years running.
Well done to the Zeds on beating us in the plate final 3-2.

Loved the evening ;D Its always great to catch up with good friends.
Kevin, you were .............. everywhere ........... going by how many trophies you picked up!!! 8-) Quite a challenge for the organisers to make sure your games were spaced out and on different tables.
Well done Lorraine and all those who helped you organise last night - like Pete on the microphone, did you have to pay him to do that act?? ;D ;D
Player of the evening has to go to the moth, such precision to aim straight for the black and felling it in one swoop 8-)
H xx
p.s. Kev, I would be honoured to be your partner next year, thankyou for asking me again :-* :)

Just to add a couple of further comments, firstly on the team finals. In the Main Cup, Greyhound went 2-0 up and Plough pulled it back to 2-all before Geoff Fairs won the Battle of the Geoffs (v Geoff Parsons) to secure victory for Greyhound.
In the Plate, the first four games kicked off simultaneously and all four went against the break ! Then at 2-all I felt for BobHall as he battled valiantly against the very experienced MrMike007 without having any luck as the pegs seemed to thwart any plans for him to compile a score of any consequence. And no-one to give him any encouragement as his team were involved in playing doubles or singles elsewhere. :'(
And talking of new records set, the Reaper has now equalled a tommo record (from 2004 & 2005) of winning all three blue riband events (Singles, Open Pairs and Mixed Doubles) in back-to-back seasons. So the Warrior now needs to win the Pairs again next year with Uncle Max plus the Mixed to be able to claim full bragging rights ! ;D ;D ;D ;D
PS Kev, Hayley was indeed awesome. She came up with several big breaks at crucial times. Spoke to TIR afterwards and he was quite chuffed to have taken one frame off you.

Errrr, I don't think that Jock in a kilt is permissable as Warrior's partner in a mixed doubles. ::)
However, in these days of political correctness............. ;D

Just to add my congratulations to all of the Winners.
What an amazing feat for the big man winning both of the mens singles titles something I'm sure won't happen again for many years. Also to Lynn storr who has quietly played her games through out the seasons & then makes the Ladies Final & wins it first time round, Bad luck goes to Ros I know how much you wanted it & I know you will come back for more next year. As for the Reaper I don't know how you fitted that much in to one evening A big well done Kev. & of course Mr Jobbins on taking the Seniors. Thanks to sir K T for presenting the trophies & good to see Ian Lelliot as well. Well done bravo 1080 in the speed break can't be bad

Another good Finals night with drama and upsets, well organised by Lorraine and helped by the committee in the ample surroundings of the Hurst Club.
Very well played Dave as you adapted to the table far better than I did and that was after playing against Kev in such a thrilling battle to win 2 great events.
Kev all those rewards are well deserved and expect you to go on improving.
Congratulations to all the other winners and well done to the loosing finalists for such honourable efforts.

Jenny & I are due to play Sandra & Kevin there in the Sussex Mixed Doubles soon and a giant moth doing a "kamikaze" on the black peg could be the best chance we've got if Kevin decides to play the table out on my break again....!! ;D ;D ;D

As the moth flutters (or Fleders for Pete's benefit ;D ) towards it, snuff the candle and catch it in a net. At each Mid Sussex Finals Nights from now on there will be butterfly nets on standby. ;)
