The Final Round of matches for this season.......
CKRBL 3 Hurst B 2 Hurst Club 5 St Francis 0 Droops 3 Windmill 2 Handcross Z 5 Watermill B 0 Greyhound 3 White Horse 2 Watermill A 2 Sportsman 3 Plough v Bravos
........ brings some interesting combinations together! ;D
CKRBL need a big win against favorites Hurst B in the top of the Premier clash to have any chance of winning the league, although Greyhound and Zeds could still steal the title and have potentially easier opposition....... :o
A win for the Droops should give them the Division 1 Title and their opponents (Windmill) will be looking anxiously over their shoulder at the possibility of the Division 1 wooden spoon. :'(
Hurst Club will have to have a big win to have a chance of catching them, with their opponents (Saints) also looking for a win the maintain their Premier status for next season.
Both the Plough and the Watermill A will be hoping to overhaul the Saints in games against lower Division 1 sides.
Good luck to all involved.......!! ;D

Good luck BBW in the final battle, hope the special one doesn't spoil the party.
I'm relying on uncle Max to knab as many as they can against Tommo's lot ;D ;D ;D wonder if he will field as many players as he did against us ( strength in depth )
We will need our witts about us & will not relax & fight for every point.

My fingers are crossed, its a bit worrying though that the first season that I'm NOT playing for you is when you're fighting for the BIG trophy.

Greyhound 3 White Horse 2
We did not make it this year but intend to get the cup back next season. The closest run league I have ever played in, hope next season is as good.
Congratulations to the Z's well done

Well rumour has it - by three very reliable authorities - that Handcross 'Z' have indeed got in through the back door and stolen the League !
If it is true, sincere condolences to our former stable-mates the Hurst B who set up a cracking pace towards the end of the season. But at least they have managed the runners-up spot.........
Yes, we won 5-0, report to follow.
.........and here it is !
Captain was faced with unenviable task of which two players to leave out: wanted the same five as got the strange result last night, but Johnny Haigh volunteered not to play as he would have had to get away early anyway to pick his wife up from her line-dancing class. John had earned us that precious (unexpected) half-point last night so I considered his job done and decided to give Alan (who hadn't played for five weeks or more) a game as he looked fresh.
Handcross Z 5, Watermill B 0 Graham Daniels 5660, Nigel Orme 190 Alan Downs 5280, Paul Blackburn 2190 so far so good.................and then we had the shock of our lives. Barry Timson 2780, Sabina Williams 1220 Sabina led for most of the game and Barry just could not get the balls back.....until right at the end. Sabina played some great shots, so unlucky Sabina. Mick Holmwood 3300, Tony Williams BP Tony had a thousand lead for most of the game and was taking great care to line up each shot. Mick was getting more and more frustrated but just managed to make it with a good break in the nick of time. Tony would have finished in the high two thousands had he not black pegged the last shot. tommo 3000, Gavin Boyd 1130 A captain's innings was called for here and tommo was under pressure from the start. Gavin was potting well and balls were being left in awkward places. Eventually tommo came good just as his team-mates had virtually given up on him !
Thank you to the Watermill B, who were great sports, and we wish them all the very best in their Charity League Final in a fortnight's time.

Congratulations to both Handcross Z and Hurst Club 'A' bad luck to Hurst 'B' and Brewers Droops who lead for most of the way and both miss out by half a point, but what a great season.

Hurst Club 5 St Francis 0 :o ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-)
Papa Hall 6050 - 1220 Chris Little Chris off early and Pete quick to take advantage. A well played 3.5k break (which he did well to keep! ;)) later in the game sealed the opening frame. 1-0 ;D
The Old Fella 5990 - 970 Matt Geal Another solid game from Roy with a couple of useful breaks to give Matt little chance to settle. 2-0 ;D ;D
BB Warrior 7020 - 790 Specialone Shaun left the one up short and, although I didn't take advantage then I was able to get the balls back a couple of times to gain a useful lead. Shaun then gave me the break back and (eventually! ::)) I was able to make sure of the win. 3-0 ;D ;D ;D
BB Reaper 7050 - 1390 Bob Ellis Kev set off with a well built 5.5k opening break showing why he is top of the Players Lists this season. Bob battled hard but was never able to close the gap. Well played Kev! 4-0 ;D ;D ;D ;D
At this stage, there were varying reports coming in from elsewhere and it sounded as if we couldn't win Division 1 no matter what result we got...... :( :'(
Then followed Bobhall's little adventure........ :o ??? :P
Bobhall 2960 - 1050 Ray Fogwill Ray was off early, Rob got the balls straight back and was going well...... until he parked a ball on the white peg and gave Ray the break back...... >:( Ray didn't get many, Rob got the break back again and went into the lead....... then knocked the black peg over! >:( :-X Rob got the break back again, kept his score this time then did enough to make sure of the game - without hitting any more pegs! 5-0 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
The glorious news then came through that the Droops had only won 3-2.................. meaning that we had won the Division 1 title by just HALF a point....!! :o ;D ;) 8-)
However, as I am sure Sir Jock would have put it (had he been given the chance of course ;).............) ................
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
A fantastic end to a great season............... very bad luck for the Droops who had made the running for most of the year. :-[ :-*

Congratulations to the Zeds on winning the Premier Division, like us by a half-point margin following a 5-0 victory in the final game of the season.......! :o ;D 8-)
Commiserations to Hurst B and Brewers Droops who were the unlucky runners up in each Division. :'( :'(
What a great season.....!! ;D ;D

Thank you Lorraine. Condolences to your 'Droops' team in winning yet it not being by enough. But congratulations to young Kevin and his team in landing the Div One title - and in such style. 8-)
Shall look forward to seeing writeup and scores, etc.

Away from the rarified atmosphere at the top of the respective leagues, the Sportsman was having its traditional mid-table battle against the White Horse, and I believe that after tonight we came out on top, sealing third place in div 1.
No trophies or glory, but a considerable improvement on last year's disastrous performance - and now we are well settled in our new home hopefully the start of greater things to come 8-)
Watermill A 2 Sportsman 3
John Willis 660 Gary Foster 770 Norman Cragg 4780 Sir Trevor 1400 Kim Stenning 950 Ros 3150 John Staplehurst 1490 Tony Driver 1590 Chris Nickolaj 2050 Lady Pamela 990
Many thanks to Norman for arranging for Rod Tarrat to come out and level the table - much appreciated :)
I have to say we were a little fortunate tonight, the first game was a very nervous affair, possibly the best shot of the game was Gary's last to put the final two balls down the 30 and 20 to secure the win.
Big Norm made sure of his game with a great 4120 break and although Sir Trevor fought hard and played the back of the table well, he never managed to retrieve the break.
Similarly in the next game, I got off to a reasonable start with around 1750 and then potted steadily for the rest of the game, whilst nothing seemed to go down holes for Kim.
Next game both players were scoring well, but quite a few pegs went down on both sides. The game finished with the red ball up and Tony exactly 300 behind, he made no mistake at the 200 hole to win. 8-) Those who know Tony will not be surprised to hear that this was not his first 200 pot of the game! A little fortunate perhaps, but Tony has been on the wrong end of several really close scraps this season, so I guess it was his turn to win.
Finally, Chris Nickolaj scored steadily while Pam never really got to grips with the table tonight.
Smashing evening, lovely big platter of Garlic bread, Roast tatties, Chicken nuggets and sausages :)

Well the reports are coming in thick and fast now and tomorrow the Final Tables will demonstrate how close it was.
I have been looking back in my book at some 'what-if's' and of course Johnny Haigh's tied game at the Horse was decisive, as was our 3-2 against Hurst B on the 30th April (we had lost the equivalent fixture 0-5 the year before !) - and even Margo's surprise win by 10 at the Sportsman ! Having Graham playing for us since Xmas certainly helped, so much of the credit must go to him too.
Thank you TIR and the Warrior for your kind comments. Especially enjoyed Warrior's Jock-style write-up with all the smileys !
Next year is going to be some season, and I predict the standard of play will rise considerably. All hail to the Mid Sussex League ! 8-)

It certainly has been an interesting season and next year's Premier league could be an even more close fought battle! :o

Well Done Zeds. And a BIG well done to my team also. Condolances to Hurst B and Brewers Droops.
Both Zeds and us had to go out winning 5-0 and the rest was up to the bar billiard god's/godesses.
A Fantastic Season all round for all the teams in the league with 3 new friendly sides. Well done one and all and looking forawrd to seeing you all finals night.

I'd like to congratulate the least experienced player in our side for his towering performance last night. Knowing that only a 5-nil win would give us any chance of grabbing the title, he finally held his nerve and won the point that gave us the championship. Very well done young Bert, and thank you.

Very well done to the Tommo and the Z's. Was able to pass my congrats to the Hurst personally after they had sent us the 1st div last night. Must have been nice for Clive's lot winining it the way they did after years of having it wrapped up by Christmas. Well done Kev on player of the year. Some one recently told me they thought you had managed to master the art of being a very good, ambitiuos player and remain untouched by your success. I agree with this and think it is great to see this in some one even younger than myself. As for my lot, we battled against the loss of Joplin and, Peter's problems, and we came up short in the end. Still much beer was drunk and the craik was fierce at times. My thoughts on the season was that it was about 2 months to long, and there was far to much moaning about tables. However I realise that I have started to moan to much about the moaning so I will give the subject a long rest. Good luck all on finals night. Thetiredone

Things started off well for us with the draw Dereck Taylor was gobsmacked to draw Steve King against the break. It was an up & down game with the right hand 50 being very whippy. Steve pegged a 1400 break in the middle but kept plugging away. Dereck 2340 Steve 3740 Ted 1410 V Darrell 2380 Ted pegged his opening break & then Darrell felled the black early on but came back to make it 2-0 which put the Legion out of contention. Supersub 1 David Page 4950 John Lear 1840 Again the opening break was lost & David settled down & played a very consistent leg. Shakey Coles 3580 Iang 1440 Shakey off early I got the break back with 3 shots & fell foul of the right hand 50. Shakey showed some very good cue skills playing balls up the middle that I missed. Supersub 2 Dilly 2700 Chris Kirkham 2010 Another close game for most of the time but Dilly kept just in front. to give the Kliners the match. We were hoping that the Watermill B would take at least 1 leg from the Z'ds & by the sounds of it they nearly did.
Big congrats to the Z'ds & also to Hurst A. It's unbeliveable that both divisions were taken by a half point.

Thanks to Shaun and Ian on behalf of the Zeds.
Feel for you Shaun, as a win last night would have landed you the Premiership Player of the Year. :'(
If my calculations are correct, for Ian there's the consolation that his player (Steve King) has shaded it on a tie with at least two others but on superior average. Well done to him.
Shaun don't be too despondent, you'll walk that First Division next season while the big guns are knocking ten bells out of each other. ;D

Congratulations to Hurst 'A' and HandX 'Z' for winning their divisions with such strength just at the right moment, which has been a credit to all their players and in turn for their oppositions for making it such a close season.
I agree with Tommo that the league's playing standard will improve, and reckon it has already started with so many highlights from so many different players and welcome it most heartily as the MS league seems to be flourishing, which includes a number of very promising younger/newer players.

Sorry for the late results guys, but just been soooooo busy!!!!
Brewers manage to inspire themselves into losing the league by a paltry half point. :-[ :'( :'( :'(
Yours Truly 4130 Jan Hinkins 870 ;D Me up first for a change, :o Jan started really well but pegged her opener of around 1500, ::) I got the break back straight away but only managed 600, :P which is more than I managed on Mon in practice. :P I slipped in a 2k break somewhere along the lines to give me a comfortable opener. :-*
Sparky 4440 Mike White 940 ;D ;D Sparky missed his opening break shot, :o leaving the white up, Mike just couldn't get going at all, :P sparky got his bits together late on to slip in a 3k+ break to take another comfortable win. :-* :-*
Mama Hall 1260 Russ Jennings 2640 >:( >:( So up to Mama Hall 2 up and knowing we need 4-1 to be uncatchable, ;) young Russ employed a little unsubtle gamesmanship, ??? forcing Mama Hall to wait. >:( It had the desired effect and an uncharacteristically annoyed mama struggled to make any headway throughout the match, :-[ Russ to his credit played well and solidly to stay in front, but next time we'll claim the game. :P :P
The Farmer 6460 Steve Smith 630 ;D ;D ;D The captain up next and played a captains game, :o :o :o young smudger on the backlash of the mild annoyance from the previous game. ;) Solid breaks of 2 and 3k from Andy gave us a another comfortable win and a chance at the 4-1 we needed. ;D ;D
Noddy 1300 Lynn Storr 1980 >:( >:( Noddy up last with the pressure on, :-[ Lynn played very well to stay in front, just, :P with Lynn clearing up the last match with a 600+ clearance. :'( :'( :'(
Victory to Hurst by that all important half point. :'( Disappointed? Yes of course we were, ;) but lets be fair from second bottom of the div last season and lose out to an excellent Hurst team by just half a point this season, :D had you offered me that at the start of the season, I'd have bitten something off!!! :o ;D ;D Not forgetting that we still get promoted regardless!!! ;D ;D ;D Do I feel like I lost something, no not at all. ::) :D ;D ;D ;D
So to finish the season with everything coming down to the wire on the last games I feel is a testament to how much we have all improved this season. ;D ;D ;D Much thanks to Sparky, Mama Hall, Noddy and captain Farmer for a great season, you have all made me laugh! :D :) :)
Big up Kev's Hurst massive for running us so close to the title, :o :-* :-* ;D ;D as with Tommo and the Z'ds slipping in the back door for the premier title!!!! ;D ;D ;D See you all finals night!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
And Dave Just For you ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ya big beautiful bald sexy man you!!!!!

A terrific end to the season which was so closely contested between the teams all the way....... (almost) a shame that one team had to win the League in preference to the other.....! ;)

Thanks Sir Jock for the long-awaited report and for "bigging up" the Zeds - a noble gesture, much appreciated. ;) I have omitted to thank 'Uncle Max' of course for the hornless unicorn's efforts in limiting the Greyhound to a 3-2 in the last match. Colin was on taxi duties up in London on the final day, but made the effort to play as he felt he had an obligation to do so. We should not discount the Greyhound from being a driving force once again in next season's championship and I would say at this early stage that any one of six teams could win it! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Russell's delaying tactics duly noted by the way >:(........What goes around comes around. ;)
