We received the news today of the passing away of Jim Wilson Snr. Some of you older members of the league will remember Jim very well as a lively member of the Stirrup Cup team. Am sure Ian will confirm, but Jim was one of the founder members of the Northants Bar Billiard League. Jim sadly lost two of his sons many years ago now, and as many of you know we hold the Jim Wilson Memorial Trophy ever year in honour of one of Jim Snrs sons. Ian is currently overseas on holiday and will update us upon his return. Our condolences go out to Jims family at this sad time.

If I may add my sincere condolences to the family. Like everyone else in the league at the time, I considered Jim a great friend and have many happy memories, especially some of his antics in Jersey in the early days.
Small and completely immaterial note in these circumstances but Jim started playing when Stirrup Cup joined the league the year after me (in 1975) and I missed the first two or three years.
RIP Jim

Yes I received the news whilst on holiday and passed it on, I understand that the funeral arrangements will be known today. Jim was a sociable person, I have nothing but fond memories of my friendship with him, he could tell a joke like no other that I have ever known, you could tell him a joke yourself and five minutes later he would be telling others it but in a more elaborate way ;D There was always a laugh on match nights coming from his direction. Jim played in the Stirrup cup team from 1975 with Jack Dent(rip), Ben Strong(rip), Norman Reynolds, Martin Baish, Jim junior (rip) and Barry Fairey (rip), He was a steady player and very reliable, also a very good pool player to, Later he played with myself, Steve Oram, Barry, Jim and John Merrick, there were other names but I can't think of them all. Sadly Jim and Betty lost sons David(1988) and then Jim (1989) which they never recovered from, Jim packed up the game not long after but was always around, he loved his Jersey trips and went for many years. Jim's wife died last year, he leaves sons Richard, Bill and grandchildren Goodbye old friend :'(

Update,
Jim was admitted to hospital with a broken ankle, it was whilst he was in there that he suffered a fatal heart attack, due to this there is to be an inquest. He was 77. No arrangements for the funeral date has been fixed as yet, it will be probably Tuesday at the earliest before this is known, I would guess that the funeral won't be until the following week,
Ian

So will I, unfortunately, but very apt that Jim's funeral will be at the very same time as that of my other great friend Ray Sturgess. I hope they find a table to have a bit of a knockabout on the way to that great place in the sky.

I also will not be able to attend as will be travelling back from America.
Am sure that our thoughts tomorrow though will be with both Jim and Ray and their families.
