Thank you Ros, you have prepared a table that is very friendly to visitors but is perhaps a little unkind to its home side. I remember the Hurst table being of the same ilk a few seasons ago, we couldn't work out why we couldn't score as many as everyone else could on our own top.
I don't think Big Norm uses the forum, but these tables do seem to show he really doesn't have a lot to grumble about, as The Watermill table is one of the most unfriendly to visiting teams.

If you could let me have the figures for last season Roy, it would be interesting to see how these scores compare....??
Maybe then we could see which tables have improved..... ;D or have gone downhill (or in one case that I can think of - uphill with a severe left hand roll on it! >:() ...... ??? :o

Totally agree with you Roy, the Sportsman is a lovely table that is well looked after and in a really nice location with a very supportive landlord! Hopefully it will prove to a home for Ros and her team for many years to come. ;D With regards to the Watermill table, we have seen 2 very different pictures of this table during the course of the season...... :o ??? After it had been looked at by Tarratts, the scores increased quite dramatically................ for a few weeks, before the rolls returned and it became almost unplayable according to some reports! :( However, the evening that we played our match down there Norman had levelled the table (at BB Reapers request! ;)) and it played well. ;D Proof I feel that any table can be improved with a little bit of TLC! 8-)

Was just looking back over the thread 'Table Conditions', which contains four pages of discussion, to find out when we turned the corner at Handcross: as you know, we weren't happy with it in the first half of the season. And I found this: You may expect the Handcross table to pick up from now on: Fed up with it playing like a dog, I went up there early last week and brushed it back to front, sprayed it with BCE Cloth Cleaner, and then laid the nap back down with the block smoother. It certainly seemed to put some life back into it. ;) Well worth the effort, wouldn't you say ? ;)

Thank you Ros, you have prepared a table that is very friendly to visitors but is perhaps a little unkind to its home side. I remember the Hurst table being of the same ilk a few seasons ago, we couldn't work out why we couldn't score as many as everyone else could on our own top. Thanks for your kind comments Roy and Dave. 8-) We have always believed that having a good home top is the only way to improve. Unfortunately we were unable to make this a reality in our last 2 seasons at the Victory. By the time we had sorted out why the table was constantly changing (which didn't affect the away teams too much, but destroyed our confidence) we then had to contend with the table being put in an open ended shed every Thursday and brought back into the pub on a Monday morning. We don't blame the Victory, they were short of space - indeed we are grateful to them for sticking by us until the end of the season, even though it was massively inconvenient to them. All our team have started to play very much better and I believe this will continue as our confidence continues to grow and we start translating the bigger scores and bigger breaks we put together in practice to performances in matches. We knew that having a friendly top would put us on the wrong end of a few drubbings, but we believe that in the long run it will pay dividends. From the wooden spoon last year, we have doggedly held on to third place all season, even though we have often struggled to field a full team. Credit must, of course, go to Steve Mariner for recovering our table so well. We are at the Sportsman, and having an enthusiastic and supportive landlord makes a huge difference - we too hope we (and he) will be there for years! 8-) Congratulations to Hurst for having the best table in the league (I defy anyone to argue with that!) but also congratulations to the Farmer for the highest away break (at the Sportsman) and Mama Hall for the Ladies away break and highest away score (also at the Sportsman) ;D
