Martin Russell beat Neale Chamberlain 3-2 last night at the Imperial in an absolutely cracking game to reach his first Open Singles Final.
Neale put Martin in to bat and he touched up at 11 to take the first. Neale took the 2nd to level things up and could have had Martin in trouble in the 3rd when Martin faltered early on. Neale also broke down early and Martin played the table out. Neale took the fourth comfortably to take us to an equal time decider.
Martin set Neale a stiff 13,830 target in a shade over 15 minutes. Neale started fluently but, maybe trying to play a bit quicker than he needed to, got into trouble and broke down at the 7k mark.
Martin goes through to the final where he will face the winner of Bryan Stevens and Ian Wright who play at the Imp next Wednesday. If that game is as good as last night's, then it will be well worth seeing.
Scores (Martin first)
11,450 v 600 6,360 v 9,780 13,040 v 2,020 150 v 12,840 13,830 v 7,140 (equal time)
