Three Horseshoes B 3 Swan B 2
Wow, well played team. With Hayley playing for the Gardeners Ladies team in the summer and star sub Debbie unavailable we took Dave Millard who hasn't played for 12 years to the Schooner.
Game 1 Adam against the break to oppose Chris Oakley Chris off too soon. Adam built a lead and never looked back. Adam winning 2590-1290 'Shoes 1-0
Game 2 The luck of the draw wasn't with us with Dave Millard with the break, however, with a credible 2510-7440 to Doug Mahy. Afterwards doug said that made up for all the beatings Dave gave him over the years. 1-1
Game 3 Me and against Brian Richards Brian came off after 2k. I got the break back and started reasonably well. Got out of position and came off. Brian got the break back and plodded on the Left 50 hole. break back in 2 shots for me and got up to 2k and lost them. Brian plodded a while, I got the break back 3k down with 5 minutes to go but broke down. 2170-5610 'Shoes 1-2
Game 4 Barry against Roger Taylor Barry started with over 3k and never looked like losing the lead 4130-3710 'Shoes 2-2.
Game 5 Matt Squire won the toss and elected to go first. Matt off cheaply. Chris started to build his opening break and went into the lead. Matt tried to keep up. Break back for Chris and a lucky shot which rattled the peg but stayed up and Matt couldn't catch him up. 4240-3050 'Shoes 3-2
An excellent win, excellent food, excellent company even though Brian was reminiscing about old time players he had played with and against most of whom had died.

Surely Mr Richards is to young to have much to reminice about, besides which he is surely to quite for any one to notice. And Mr Jones remember the journey to Oxford with a car full of old codgers recalling the past ( matches and journeys now resemble the cast of the Last of The Summer Wine.), and no I am not making any nominations for Compo, although I do play with the ideal Victor Meldrew on a Thursday. Not saying who, but the Dyke will surely back me up.

Yes, I do remember that journey and recalling all the past names made me miss the correct junction

Result of the postponed match between the Shoes A & Gardeners A last night was a narrow win for the Three Horseshoes 3 - 2. To say the Marine View table was tricky would have been an understatement :-/ If you managed to find the break & one up, then you were in pole position. Once you went up the table it was a lottery.
Game 1 - Ian broke off and reached the one up shot and that was the last time either he & Sheena saw the break. Ian winning by about 1k in the end. 1 - 0 Shoes
Game 2 - Hayley off early for the girls in the next but played well up the table to beat the Reaper by about 600 1 - 1
Game 3 - Stu missed the white ball on his break and did manage to get the balls straight back, but missed again. Jean built up a small lead and actually cleared the table, eventually running out a decisive winner 2700 - 0 2 - 1 Gardeners
Game 4 - Sandra off early. I`m pretty sure Mal didn`t get the break back but built up a good lead to level the match. 2 - 2
Game 5 - Kt v Lorraine. Last season, I had to play Tupps in the singles q/finals on this top and remembered one or two quirks that it seemed to have. This helped me open with a 3k break. Lorraine replied with 900, but I managed to get the balls back and add a couple of thousand more to take the point. 3 - 2 Shoes
Good atmosphere, plenty of barracking(as you can imagine with partners on both sides) and some nice sandwiches that Chris put on for us. Well done Lady H & Jean, good match :P

Good result for the Shoes and a stout resitance from the Gardeners, shame the table is so tricky as the venue is good and the hosts very friendly.
I have been in and levelled the table in the past at the request of players playing a competition there and it has played fairly reasonable ( at least all could get the break and one up ), but it seems to go back to its old habits immediately.

Semi Final result played at the Henty on Sunday (brought f/fwd)
Windmill 1 Three Horseshoes A 4
Edge B. 970 BB Reaper 9,970 Micky P. 8,970 Stu Mepham 0 Alan M. 1,490 Ian Lelliott 5,320 Charlie C. 1,990 Mal Spier 5,910 Gina 1,380 Kt 5,650
Table played very well. The Reaper kicked off with 3k and added another 5k to put the Shoes 1 up. Micky built up a lead with two breaks, Stu couldn`t get them back. 1 - 1 Ian had two attempts at the break, the second time black pegging about 4k. Alan didn`t take advantage and Ian made enough at his third attempt for a 2-1 lead. Charlie came off early in what turned out to be a scrappy fourth game, Mal eventually running out the winner 3-1.
I wonder if the Shoes B can do another giant killing act in the other semi to make it an all Shoes final :P

Certainly think every chance of Shoes final as the B`s have strengthened their team ahead of their promotion next season.
Dave Millard was a top notch player and understand he is practising so ready for league comeback, and Chris Lucas now with a few games under his belt is a very good team player who was always able to read a table quickly.
