Montreal 3 - 2 Duke of Wellie B
M Barsby 1490 - 2960 N Simmonds........... Micky lost over 4000 in a game he should have won
G Mechan 3140 - 1820 G Frizzell ....... Couple of little breaks saw me through
S Burns B/P - 2930 M Senior ....... Steve was around 1000 behind and then got the break back to score nearly 3000 only to white peg and then black peg with the last ball.
B Mechan 9590 - 2160 J Perrin .......... Bob made 3 breaks of 3k which saw him win. Good score.
D Robins 1670 - 8060 T Scotney ....... DJ was going well up until the white rolled forward as he was striking it and then Nick got the break back and looked very comfortable.

Gary, Is that 3-2 to the Duke, rather than 3-2 to the Montreal?
Our result from last night

Dyke `A` 3 Three Horseshoes 2
Entertaining match at the Dyke last night, but the wrong result for us.
Tupps 7,670 Kt 10,600 - I opened with a massive 700, leaving the one-up far to deep and coming off up the table. Tupps got them back and built up a 7k lead and then whipped out on the one-up. I had enough time to catch him which i did, rocking a white peg along the way. 0 - 1
D.Reeves 10,820 Mal 2,660 - Dave always looked in control and made an effortless 10k break before touching on. Neither player kept much after that. 1 - 1
C.Smith 60 Geoff 8,110 - Geoff spun out on the break very early on and Colin got them back, only for him to whip out on a split and take a peg. Geoff made a steady 7k+ to win. 1 - 2
M.Winder 11,640 Ian 1,780 - Mick made the decision to go strong in this one and try and level the match, which he did. He gave Ian a chance but he didn`t take it. Not sure of Mick`s break. 2 - 2
K.Simmonds 8,560 Rick 950 - Ricky was superb on this top last time but an early mistake on his first split saw him come off. Kev made a very slow & deliberate 8k to win the match. 3 - 2
This makes the Home game against the Tap in two weeks absolutely crucial for us, now four points behind & a game in hand.

Stadium A won 4-1 against a four player team from the Brewery Tap.
The game was played in a very low key atmosphere with the Tap team mostly interested in the quiz machine not really even noticing their own winning player.- Paul. Captain Chris from the Tap had only one conversation on his mind for most of the evening which was to tell us how wrong it is that he has to play teams from divisions above his team.
Rather than enjoying a night out with like minded individuals, the attitude was lets get it over with and leave. There was no intent on learning anything from the players or the situation, not even how to encourage teammates.
Noone on the Stadium side had any wish to score 'millions' of points against 'novice' players and indeed did not. In fact I did not play at all and watched and cheered my own team onto victory.
I hope the Tap team enoyed the evening a little, because going out on a Wednesday to play a league game should not be a chore, but a chance to meet with people and have a bit of fun. Yes people are competitive - it is a league and the idea is to gain points - but most of all it is supposed to be enjoyable. If it isn't then find something you do like doing!!

I am afraid Alan that was exactly the attitude we got from them when we played them, and it is a shame because they are all capable of improving but have a very negative and defeatist attitude.
There has been a lot said in recent weeks about the current format that we are using for the Brighton League, with some teams saying how in favour they are of the change to the other extreme of teams threatening not play at all next year if the current system remains in place(this threat has come from top as well as bottom teams).
I hope players realise that threatening to pull out of the league just because they do not like the league structure is not going to help anyone or brighton bar billiards in general. I made it clear at the start of the year this was an experimental system and if players had any strong opinions they must come to the AGM and air them so maybe a solution and way forward can be found.
However having been to the last few AGMs and noticing the dwindling attendances I won't hold my breath....

Nige
Although my team hasn't won many games this year it has without doubt improved every player in my teams ability. Without playing agaist better players how do you expect to improve. For instance Bob has hit 9k + twice this year and i don't think he scored over 5k last year. People will complain what ever way it is structured, but i believe the new format will only improve players in the Brighton league in general. If teams are complaining some games are too easy they could always enter more comps and get stronger opposition that way.
