Bit late but heres a run down of what happened
It was a three way final with the Duke of Wellington, Stadium and Three Horseshoes having qualified from their groups
The Duke of Wellington beat the Stadium 3-2 in match 1
The Stadium then beat the three Horseshoes 4-1, leaving all three teams in with a chance going into last Wednesdays final match between the Horseshoes and the Duke of Wellie. The Duke of Wellie had to win to take the trophy, the Three horseshoes had to win 5-0 and score 28k (including handicaps). Any other Three Horseshoes win would gift the trophy to the Stadium
So abacus in arm I went to the Stadium to work out who had won when the match was over.
It was nearly all over for the Horseshoes in leg 1, but Kev Hall sunk the 100 before Isobel to take a 1-0 lead. Big wins from Kev Tunstall and Dave Ingram followed ending the Dukes chances and the Horseshoes already had the aggregate they needed so they just now needed the last 2 legs.
But the Duke faught back and Geoff Jukes couldn't overturn his handicap defecit and the 3-1 scoreline guaranteed the trophy to the Stadium. The last leg determined the runners up and Ian Lelliott squeaked home to make sure the Horseshoes were runners up 2 years running.
A closely faught competition with 14 of the 21 matches being 3-2 and only one 5-0 result.
