Three Horseshoes 2-3 Brewery Tap A
Win for Tap tonight puts them in pole position for Premiership title. 3 wins in their last 3 games will give them the championship
Kev Tunstall 14,440 - 30* Chris Reeves Rik Dewdney 3,830* - 12,580 Nigel Senior Mal Spier 0 - 12,960* Richard Wooton Geoff Jukes 11,340* - 370 Marc Chipman Ian Lelliott 4,650 - 9,600* Gareth Lloyd
Game 1 - Chris left his first split with the white hanging over the 100 and he lost his opening break from the next shot. Both players then had a go each, but Kev got the balls back and put his team in fron with a winning break 1-0
Game 2 - Ricky Dewdney went off with nearly 4k but hit a split too thin and both balls missed. I got the balls back and despite one visit down the back of the table I levelled the match with a 10k break. 1-1
Game 3 - Richard didn't look comfortable to start with but eventually made 7,500 with around 10 minutes gone. Mal got the tricky balls back but whipped a 100 on the split and black pegged the following shot to put the Tap 2-1 in front.
Game 4 - A good 5k opener from Geoff put him in control, Marc got down to one ball but failed to get the break back, Geoff did to set up the decider. 2-2
Game 5 - Gareth never looked in trouble and made 9k leaving Ian only 7 minutes which was never enough time.
The Tap have to win against Albion A, Albion B and Romans A to attempt to claim their first title.

Montreal 3 - 2 Duke of Wellington
M. Barsby 2890 - BP B. White G. Mechan 4860 - 680 D. Bartrum T. Hocking 1810 - 1650 C. Parsons S. Burns 1850 - 6170 B. Bartrum B. Mechan 490 - 2960 R. Chuter
The Montreal are not going down without a fight, after another close win at home.
Game 1. Brian started of well with a decent break and i took Mick 13 min to get the balls back but once done, took a comfortable lead with the bar going. Brian black pegged with the last shot.
Game 2. I missed my opening break but got the balls back and put a comfortable 2k on the board. Dave went on without threatening too much but eventually got the balls back and missed his first shot at the break. He then threw a ball down the table in frustration, i got the balls back and finished the game off. He apologised afterwards for his moment of madness so no hard feelings.
Game 3. Trev won his first game of the season to secure the win. The other bloke did black peg when scores were close and nearly caught him but trev sunk the 100 ball to win.
Game 4. I AM NEVER GIVING STEVE THE BREAK AGAIN AS HE IS RUBBISH. Only messing but he has been going on for ages how he wanted a break at home and couldn't get it at all.
Game 5. Roy started with 2k and Dad couldn't get the balls back at all. He was getting more and more frustrated but it just wasn't his night. He tried takin the black out on his last shot so no one would find out his score but sunk it in the 200. Sums up his whole game really.
Looks like this league may have more twists yet to see who wins the league. Stadium and Kendal are favourites but were hanging in there.

Brewery Tap B 1 - 4 Kendal
This match was ruined by the table. With the balls rolling off to the right and left depending on how it felt and the break which was very difficult to get, it was hard work.
I. Collins 1420 - 3460 Me J. Padmore 750 - 1750 Dave Taxi BP - 3280 Pete M P. Reay 2500 - 1170 Andy S. Ford 1210 - 1660 Tony

Stadium A 1-4 Albion A
I fine win for the Albion on that awful back room table. Amazing isn't it - a completely empty bar and ten people have to stand in a broom cupboard. Anyway enough bitching.
Jean won the first against Colin Honeysett. I beat Sheena in the second. Bella beat Alan Messer Caroline beat Jim Parsons. Alan lost to Micky Pope :'(
That results puts us a bit closer to the Div one title.

It seems a shame that many of the tables play badly when you are on them. We tend to average 10k per player at home , the table is normally fine, I will check it out though ;) ;)

Richard,
Normally I would say that we played badly if that was the case, but last night it was the table. There are only a couple of tables that I moan about as a rule.
For example
Duke of Wellington the other week with the clock running for 11 minutes The back room of the Stadium, need I say more?
I do not argue that the grown ups get good scores on that table. What I said was that last night it played badly. I had the highest break of the night (1680) and no one scored 3500, not even Taxi (he was thinking of his summer average I think). For a team that has won it's last 9 league games and is at the moment top of the Lower Division you would think we would have scored more.
On reading your reply again I think you may be tying to make a small joke. If this the case I think you should have placed the Winks in a better place. Some people could think you were being condescending.

Regg3y,
I don't think it is that unusual that a table renowned for having high scores lodged on it somehow becomes disappointing - difficult even - the first time you play it as an away player.
There is nothing to beat getting to know and love your own home table, knowing the prime place to leave the one-up for the split shot, etc etc, and so long as it remains constant and doesn't get moved about then regular five-figure scores are possible - even against the break if your opponent can't unravel its secrets quickly enough.
I actually find the Brighton tables a bit slow and flat, and more often wish that I could have had one practice game on them first before having to do the real thing.
I would say that the Ye Olde Coach House table at Angmering is my example of a good table - in fact the best one I have played on for many years - well looked after, great pace, true, reliable cushions, and takes a bad shot to miss on. Wish more tables were as good as that one !

Tommo,
As a Kendal player I appreciate that home table knowledge is good and that away players can struggle.
If you look at the scores from our game on Wednesday you will see that even the Tap players had problems on it.
I think that it could be argued that if a table like the Taps had been playing different to usual then that would be better for the visiting team.
To sum up. The evening was an enjoyable one. The match was not for everybody concerned.

Regg3y, Judging by your first line you seem to accept the point that sky's the limit on a good reliable home top that you know - but others might find it hard work.
So what caused a relatively poor return on it, score-wise, this week ? Perhaps the table had been moved off its normal spot ? Surely no-one would have bothered to deliberately sabotage it ?
My 'home' tables are the South Park Con Club in Reigate, which is well looked after and regularly returns big scores (I have lost with 6000 on it this season !) and the Handcross Club. The latter gets moved and you're never sure how it's going to play from one week to the next.

We only assume that its moved Clive, nothing has been proven, BUT the table has played remarkably BAD since it was moved at the beginning of the season ??? When you set it up a couple of weeks ago it played superb, then the next week (and from then on) the break has got thinner and it plays very difficult ??? ??? Perhaps you should go in and set it up every Tues & Weds for us ;D

Tommo,
I don't think that anybody in either of the Tap teams would deliberately sabotage a table (or nearly any team in Brighton). It would not be in their best interest.
However, all it needs is one drunken individual (who may or may not have anything to do with Bar Billiards) to knock a table slightly and that could put it out of level/place.
I have played on the Tap table when it has been almost too good (if you can't miss it's not much of a game), but I have also played on it when it has been awful (Brighton Summer League Final was an example of it not being at its best).
All tables can suffer from movement, humidity, temperature and a whole host of other conditions.
So, all you grown up players who get big big scores, please do not get upset if someone from the lower levels of the game states that a table was not good on one night of the year.
I think this should be the end of this subject.

Most of what you have said makes perfect sense Regg3y, especially paragraphs 1, 2 and 4.
Just to add, that wifey and I have our own table and the humidity/temperature comment is especially relevant: On a hot day it is unbelievably fast, early in the morning before the sun gets round it is slow and hard work. Round about 8pm onwards (when it has had a chance to calm down) is the best time to play on it and is when I try to push myself to the limit on it.
I have set it up so that the break is difficult but the one-up and split(s) a cinch. I haven't had to alter it for over a year.

As I'm the home captain, though, I'll bring my spirit level along again. But I won't be attempting any adjusting if it looks anything like reasonable. I played terrible on it last time out, but put it down to having had a sh!t day at work. ::) And we'll be looking after you boys with the sandwiches - as you can see we don't bear a grudge. ;D
