Can we please keep week threads to Match reports and results as last year when I often opened the thread as first back to report our result if I could beat Clive. Other chit chat and backbiting could surely be posted elsewhere. Two pages of junk before any match results are posted is crazy.

Point taken, but it's difficult, when you realise that even with moderator powers it is difficult to transfer individual posts without them coming across as a quote/copy - not from the original poster.
We've stressed in the past that the Forum's main purpose is so that views on bar billiards can be aired: its existence as a results service has evolved, sure, but this is only a secondary consideration.
I agree that there are limits, but the Mid Sussex board is amongst the most active, and entertaining discussions are to be encouraged in my honest opinion. Otherwise its all a bit soulless.

We can only ask people to try to keep to topic on the 'Serious' threads. It's been discussed on various occasions before, with mixed feelings as to boring without banter / too much banter.
Something we have to live with unless it gets seriously out of hand. Any individual section are quite welcome to poll their own members and make a democratic decision on the way they want their section run.
Mods will not be expected to put themselves in the firing line by deleting banter, that in turn would cause upset.
Sav.

Although I would hate it if the banter stopped, it seems that on this occasion the whole purpose of the thread was lost. ???
IMHO banter sprinkled throughout the results (within reason) is fine, banter and/or discussion after all the results are posted is also fine, but two pages of chat, posturing and history (albeit interesting) before the matches have even taken place is not fine. :o
Surely, the right thing to do would have been to amend the title of the thread and start a new thread for the results? That way no posts would have needed to be moved.

Thanks for your replies
I just felt the point needed to be made as I thought last season when the weekly threads were opened after the matches worked very well alongside other less focused threads.

It was a very valid and interesting conversation but as already pointed out, it would be better under its own thread. Tommo - start a history discussion thread or something - could be very interesting to see what comes up!

That way no posts would have needed to be moved. One page of chat. And your assessment of how to put it right is perfectly true, and I would have done it long ago if we had all the tools needed. I won't go into all the ins and outs, but we have tried splitting threads before, and you end up with a lot of copies on the 'new' thread which are quotes of the original poster and do not look authentic. Bernie has made the best attempt at this so far, but even then it looked a bit messy. I've had a go, and couldn't do any better. I've asked Sav to weigh in with some help, but even he admits that moderating tools aren't 100% satisfactory and when the next version upload comes, hopefully it will be better. In this instance, while I agree with the criticisms, (and am one of the culprits !) I don't think the content justifies me starting fiddling about with people's submissions made in good faith.

But it will have to be later today as I'm already pushing my luck (been to the Eye hospital this morning and now have to go in to work). ::)

Done.
A modicum of decorum has now been restored to the Mid Sussex Forum. ;) ;D

My apologies for probably encouraging the off-topic discussions and thanks to Tommo for retrieving the situation before I could even get home and on-line :D
