Nigel,
Pauline has spoken to me regarding yet another play-off for the Ladies Grand Prix, she has given me Enid Wains phone number, that I've PM'd to you.
This must be the 1st time that two play-offs are needed, isn't it!?

We nearly needed a play off last year between Richard Wooton and Tony Webster but didn't happen when a player dropped out at the last minute.
Enid is away till Sat so won;t find out whether she can play before then. As for Genette has anyone got her number as she has not rplied to my email.

Nothing quite as contentious as the dress code discussion on the men's Grand Prix, but can I get some clarification on the ladies dress code please? ;)
Nigel, you Pm'd me this:
"3) All players should wear smart shirt, bow tie and waistcoat, black trousers and black shoes. Ladies may wear blouse and skirt."
So I assumed that any smart blouse with a black skirt would do, but when I spoke to Pauline and Sue last weekend, they were both saying that we had to wear white blouses.
I already have a black skirt, I just need to check that it's safe to play in ;)
So do I need to buy a white blouse tomorrow or not?

Pauline and Sue know better than I do, Ros, so go along with what they say. The letter you have is a copy from what was sent before so I can't say I know the original rule. I don't recall seeing a lady play in this with a non white blouse.....

There's nothing in the AEBBA rule book that covers it and contestants have not been informed by AEBBA of a dress code this year, so smart but casual in my books.
Sav.

Hayely - i think black trousers have been worn in the past, I don't think there would be any objections.

Thanks to Lady H, Sav and Nigel for all the replies on this :)
I've been out this afternoon and totally failed on an all white blouse, they either didn't fit, or they had long sleeves with big cuffs that would trail on the table - I hate those :(
So instead I settled for a top that looks like a white short sleeved blouse with a black cardigan over the top, but it's actually all one top, if you know what I mean? ;)
So I'm somewhat relieved to come here and read this thread, I was panicking that I'd get to Reading and someone would send me home again for being incorrectly dressed :-[
As for the skirt, well, I'm semi committed now, I'll get Sir T to check the view from behind in the morning, and provided it's below 'sea level' I'll probably wear it, but if it's unsafe, I promise I'll leave it at home Hayley!

I believe that Jean beat Pauline in the Final of the Ladies and that SirKT won the Open Grand Prix..... although I don't know the scores and I'm basing that on texts received by other people during the evening.
Congratulations to Jean & Kevin if it's true...... apologies to all if it isn't!! ;)

Yes Jean beat Pauline (20k to 2k). KT beat Milko in final - not sure of the scores though.
Ian Lelliott beat Ron Britton in over 60's final, he was also trying to complete the double as I left. Ian was playing Maxi McDonnell in the over 50's final - not sure how that one turned out.

Maxi McDonnell bt Ian in the over 50`s final. Good match, with Ian having a lead of 7k going into the second leg. Maxi kicked off with over 11k to seal the win.
In the Men`s Grand Prix, the group winners were - Kt 3/3, Milko 3/3 (his group included Gareth Lloyd & Gary Johnson). The other two groups were a lot closer. Nigel & Chris Reeves finished on two wins apiece but Nige just edged the aggregate. The other group was even closer with Phil Collins 2/3 47k, Curt Driver 2/3 49k & Steven Sheard 2/3 51k.
Semis were Nigel v Milko - Keith ran the table out for 19k, Nige looked to be just about on target to catch him but thinned a one-up on 10k. Keith tided up.
Kt v Steven - Steve put me in on a very whippy table. It took me three attempts to get the pace right and I eventually set him a 10k target. Steve was off on his first split and I made another 5k to take the match. Steve finished off with 10k.
In the final, I won the toss and put Keith in. Unfortunately for him, he had a bad contact on his second one-up and left both balls up. I got them back and played the rest out for 15k. Second leg, Keith conceded when I reached 4k.
In the Ladies, Jean & Pauline looked awesome in their groups, both winning 3/3. In Paulines group, Chris Toner won two matches and Lady H :-* took both legs off of Ros. In Jean`s group, Jenny Abbott won two matches and I think Sue Atkins won the other one against Janet.

Well done KT, Jean, Maxi and Ian for their wins.
Shame Keith had a bad contact in the final, he was playing great yesterday and maybe could have set KT a stiff target as table 7 was pretty good. Well done Kev, thats 4 in a row (6 in total) and 3 of the last 4 won against poor Keith.
Thanks to Dave Alder for all his efforts yesterday.

Well done to all the Grand Prix Qualifiers, Ladies and Men, those who won and those who didn't, and for the Over 50's and Over 60's competitors all of whom ventured to Reading on such a miserable and wet day. You did the game proud, hope to read about it soon on the AEBBA website.

Thanks Nige, yes it was a shame that I couldn't continue my run of form as I hadn't missed a shot for 5 single legs. It did look a good table though as Kevin showed by not giving me another shot, so I would have needed to set him a very big score to give me a chance. Still, not bad for a 14th seed (ex 23rd) who beat seeds 2,3,6 & 11 ::) At least it gave me something to smile about after only getting 1 hour sleep before going to work. :( :) Well done to all the winners and runners up, also to Dave for running another long day (11 hours) :o Keith. P.S. Sorry that this is in the Ladies Grand Prix thread. :-*
