Simon Ellam & Mellissa Standbridge
Nigel, I notice that Helen Brewster is in the Mixed Pairs & Under 25's, I thought you couldn't play in both. Or is it Mum & Daughter with the same Christian name?

What time does it all wrap up? Just so I know re catering for family evening meal. ;D Sorry, am not going to be able to answer this with a great deal of confidence. The numbers that I have and the format I have sent Dave will see a 7.15pm finish approx. But if extra pairs/under 25s show up it could finish one or two series later (each series taking 45 minutes) - I have sent Dave additional formats if these extra pairs do show. That is just the nature of these competitions I am afraid in that you are not absolutely certain who will show. So it should finish around 7.15pm but be aware it may go on till 8.30 at the latest

Thanks for the good wishes, but glad to say that it was nothing as serious as ManFlu....... simply a case of eating something that disagreed with me strongly and being unable to travel more than a few feet from a toilet. :-X :'( Hope everybody had a great day..... ;)

Dave, the thing about food poisoning is that you feel like you want to die at the time, but at least it only lasts 24 hours.
Relieved to hear it's not the back playing up again - especially after all those big breaks recently ;D, and hope you get well soon.

As we were leaving Reading, the semi finals were just underway (yes, the defending champs were taken out by Milko & Pauline) :P
They were between -
Milko & Pauline v Jenny Abbott & Dave Tooke
Dave Alder & Jackie Watson v Simon Ellam & Mel Standbridge

As we were leaving Reading, the semi finals were just underway (yes, the defending champs were taken out by Milko & Pauline) :P They were between - Milko & Pauline v Jenny Abbott & Dave Tooke Dave Alder & Jackie Watson v Simon Ellam & Mel Standbridge I haven't got the scores but Jenny :-* & Dave beat Pauline & Myself 2-0 with Jenny playing very well making a 6,000 + opening break in the 2nd game, after we lost the 1st game by only a few hundred points. I failed to get the break back in either game and Pauline lost a 3,000 break after suffering a spate of topitus, the 3rd time she had done it on the day. :o :( :-* I look forward to getting my revenge on Thursday when we play them in the League. ;) The other Semi was more exciting with Simon getting the last ball in the 200 to draw the match on aggregate, Dave phoned Nigel to decide what to do and it was decided that the two ladies played a 3 min timed break play off with Jackie winning. They then went on to win the final against Jenny & Dave T. A good achievement by Dave Alder to win and be the organizer on the day. The only moan I've got is that it finished too late, 8.30 I think, due to breaks on the day and spare tables not being used, but I left at 7.25 after losing our Semi as I have to get up for work at 11.30 pm. :-/ I would like to see these Competitions arranged like Opens, where you enter beforehand, so Dave can make sure the draw and format is sorted before we all get there, as it was we didn't even start until about 12.15 due to Dave having problems.

Well done Dave Alder and Jackie Watson especially considering you ran the day too.
I tried running the Alternative Rules in 2005 as an open where people entered beforehand and it was choatic becuase a third of the 50 or so entries didn't show. So there were byes all over the place. Unfortunatley not everyone is reliable. In an open it is simpler, you have a reserve list to avoid the unused tables, it is stright knockout and the entries are usually limited so the format is fixed. It is more complicated running multiple competitions. If you draw out groups beforehand, and then 2 or 3 out of the 4 don't show then you will have problems. I sent Dave eight (yes 8!!!) formats for yesterday, so he could choose one to use when he had the numbers.
The Mixed Pairs/ Under 25s weekend was always the toughest one to run, because of not knowing the numbers beforehand and the preference to use groups for both competitions to give players more guanteed games. Had I been there I may have been able to tinker with the format to maybe save 1 series, but given that Dave was playing he really had no chance to attempt to do this and it is easy to mess it up if you change things at the last minute.
