As each county have 2 votes, so if there is going to be another, we ideally need to be notified, just in case someone is acting outside of their remit. ps - there will be a balance sheet this year ;D

A poorly attended AGM with several counties not represented.
Three proposals 1) Missing rule on disturbed balls ;D reinstated. 2) Rankings are now official. 3) Group scoring change back to 2pts per leg and 1pt for aggregate rejected.
£5 per player entry fee at Bournemouth
Officers re-elected en-bloc plus Nige as Assistant Secretary.
Bombshell came from Brian Daniels and Tony Webster in the form of one years notice that they will cease operating the competition tables. The set-up has been offered to AEBBA . A committee has been set up to investigate the logistics of AEBBA forming a table consortium.
England teams etc to follow.

No personal offence intended to anyone, but from their track record do we really believe that the AEBBA have anyone pro-active enough to take this over ? It will affect everything - County finals nights, Opens, Special events, and All-England flagship competitions - Internationals as well. We need another Brian and Tony - but who ?

Please dont cry anything down yet, why should not the AEBBA own the competition tables they use....
I personally do not want to see any individual take over the tables and think it should be down to the Assn to run the tables. Even with 2 people running the table hire things can go wrong and one open this year was close to being let down on tables, that is why a group is needed.
Its early days yet and I would hate for this site to make something which should be a positive way forward to the future of the AEBBA and the table hire be turned negative before any talks start.
And I would like to point out that bookings are still being taken for table hire. So please dont be put off or start panicing that we are not still hiring the tables.
Mary
PS This is my personal view of the situation.

Re Mary's comments, they are spot on. Individuals running tables is an enornous strain, with no leeway for sickness. The same situation as when I tried to get an AEBBA consortium formed from my tables before Brian stepped in. I got nowhere with the previous admin at AEBBA.
Re Tommo's comment, Brian made his announcement and a brief discussion followed and the meeting moved on to the next item. I had to insist on action being commenced and a committee being formed. What will happen I don't know, but the right people are on the committee.
The meeting generally was one of the most negative I have been to in a long history of AEBBA AGM's. The was much bickering and recrimmination over past actions.

Apologies for the knee-jerk reaction. But posting news of another potential banana skin for the future of the game's top events - you must have expected some sort of reponse.
If indeed a working party has been formed, and the future is in safe hands, then all well and good.
But I can understand that providing the tournament set in all weathers, taking up many weekends throughout the year, and with the bare minimum of assistance, and (on rare occasions) having to wait around for over-running competitions to end would eventually take its toll on Brian and Tony's enthusiasm.
Hopefully they are not pulling out altogether ?

People will need to think about sponsoring the purchase of the tables by the AEBBA with loans to the association, in the same way that my league, Tunbridge Wells and Rehill have done.
The tables will pay for themselves over a few years.
The main logistical problems to consider are;
1) Storage (could be one or more venues). 2) Upkeep of the van and eventual replacement. 3) Delivery and collection, preferably by the leagues hiring. 4) Contingency plan for van breakdown. 5) Maintenance and recovering of the tables. 6) Insurance - public liability and van
It's going to require considerable coordination and commonsense to work.

Very nice in theory.
But I can't see it happening, as the 'interested' leagues/counties will be already committed, exclusively, to their own leagues/counties: Why should they want to bail out the AEBBA when they gave no lead on the situation when it first became critical? And the 'uninterested' counties will remain as such.
The words 'straws' and 'clutching at' come to mind. Sorry, but I'm calling it as I see it.
Any rescue package would have to come either: a) primarily from the strongest 2 counties (Oxon and Sussex) or b) by the AEBBA finding its own sponsorship from outside the game, or c) like I said before, from finding a couple of White Knights in the mould of Brian and Tony.
Will be extremely happy and relieved to be proved wrong.

Before going down the route of who next re the tables e.g. AEBBA... have all options been explored??
I totally respect and take onboard Mary Daniels points... so do 'All England' take over or is there another way??
Both Birian and Tony have totaly given their all this year without any complaint or asking for help..... considering family and a new baby and , unfotunate events leading to ill health such as poor Tony and his foot...etc...
So should a 'consortium' of support for Brian and Tony in delivery and setting up be formed, if they where willing to carry on... ??? which with support could they and would they still continue ??
Sorry I was not at the AGM and this may have already been discussed... but work did not allow.. but happy to support alternatives where I can...I can drive a van, offer soe storage... what can others offer??
Regards Chris

Firstly I would like to thank Brian and Tony for their hard work over the last 3 years. I am not sure people realise how many times they have to deliver the tables for various finals nights as well as the opens over the year.
I am glad that a commitee was formed at the AGM to look at this, and we have people with the right experience involved to find a solution and find away forward. The only way i can see All England holding on to the tables is if a number of people step forward willing to invest some money so they can be purchased outright from Brian and Tony. I know Brian and Tony are willing to put in money to be part of the new consortium but would not want to be responsible for delivering/ setting up and picking up the tables (I gather this is the main factor for them selling the tables). Therefore I expect leagues will have to organise themselves to pick up and drop these tables off if they want to use the tables from 2010.

Nigel,
Just a personal note.
Firstly, congrats on your appointment.
From my limited perspective I think you are the type of person (amongst others) we need running this game.
I was sad to hear that there are still past issues that crop up at the AGM. Now surely is the time to be pulling together.
I hope I'm not too niaive in being confident that you and others have enough commitment to seeing the game through these difficult times. (Also, well done for everything you've done in the past.)
Come on All-England, your members need you!

I have had a call from Dave Alder. He has struggled with computers but is now more comfortable with getting logged on to the forum etc.
Responding to the comments on lack of communication he has asked that an AEBBA secretary's corner be set up. This is a positive move forward so that he can respond to problems / queries and answers posted on here or the AEBBA site.
Dave has also said that the Post Office Club have offered Phil Hawkins storage for the tables and van for the whole year. That's one major hurdle out of the way.
This is excellent news from our governing body, so please make use of it and respect that we are all trying to move into the 21st century and it's not an Aunt Sally for taking potshots at Dave.
Sav.
