Sportsman 4 St Francis 1
Tony Driver 1,440 - 4,360 Specialone Shaun opened with 870, quickly back on for 2k plus then another 850. Tony battled hard and played some good shots to the 100 hole, but just couldn't get the break back. 0-1 :(
Then, as predicted by Specialone....... BB Warrior 7,350 - 1,410 Bob Ellis I got a couple of early breaks of about 1k, Bob got the break back but couldn't keep it going. Eventually I got a 3k break to make sure, with another 1.5k at the end. 1-1 ;)
Sir Trevor 1,620 - 1,150 Matt Geal Matt missed the one up, Trevor played some good "Jersey" shots when the balls ended up in awkward places. It was always going to be close, but when Matt missed when the bar had dropped, Trevor cleared the last 2 balls to win the game. 2-1 ;)
Lady Ros 3,810 - 440 Ray Fogwill Ros started with 650, Ray got the break back straight away but lost his score. The balls stayed at the back for a while then Ray got the break back again..... only to miss with both balls. Ros then got a nice 2k break to seal the match. 3-1 ;D
DA-DM 2,670 - 1,880 Girliefosters Chris started with 1.4k, Colleen hit back with 890 then she added another 1,150. Both played well in the best game of the night, Chris was unlucky enough to lose a break of 1,340 which would have made it very close near the end, but Colleen played well to deserve her win. 4-1 ;D ;D
A very enjoyable evening, plenty of laughs and banter between both of the teams with the usual banquet of Sandwiches, Onion Rings & Chips. ;D
A welcome return to form for the Sportsman...... many thanks to our opponents for the pre-match banter - it did the trick!! ;D :P :P

Handcross Z 5, White Horse 0
A much-needed confidence booster for the struggling Zeds, though we didn't play with any sort of confidence. The hapless (but not hopeless !) Hornless Unicorn battled well in the last three games, and to their credit it will be seen that their scores got better as the night went on. The last game was a real corker, Uncle Max extremely unlucky, when playing well - and well placed to take the frame - he contrived to miscue on three separate occasions. :o
tommo 5670, Mike Stratford 530 Graham Daniels 4080, Ian Powell 1340 Barry Timson 2360, Trevor Howes 2060 MrMike007 2500, Brian Coleman(-ator) 2190 Alan Downs 4960, Uncle Max 3430
The evening was spent in good spirit, with some nice food provided by Mr Timson, and we look forward to the return when no doubt the Horse will exact their customary revenge on their own top !
[post modified as in its original form the overall message seemed to have been misconstrued by others]

Greyhound 5 HHUSC 0
Neil Burchell 5720 Ray Pratt 1590 Trevor Rees 1980 Andy Short 470 Geoff Fairs 2850 Mick Kirwan 1740 Peter Burchell 6740 Craham Sparksman 1270 Paul Goodwin 7700 Chris Packham 590
Paul played first and made it look very easy I struggled in a game where the balls were in the middle or near the baulk lines. Geoff made it look nearly as difficult in another game with lots of balls in awkward places. Peter played well and gave Graham no chance Neil finished with a good game after a sticky start.
We deserved to win but I am not sure whether 5 - 0 is a proper reflection of the night.
Nice to meet the USC crowd again - very pleasant company

Laughing Fish 5 - 0 Royal Oak
Andy Brooks 1760 vs 690 Jan Hinkins
The game played mostly at the end of the table with a few small breaks more for Andy proving to be enough.
H 8140 vs 3580 Russ Jennings
I opened with 5k, and added a further 2k. Russ played very well with a number of medium sized breaks to amass his score in limited time. I found it hard to continue with any breaks hearing the "he makes it look easy" and "he shouldn't be allowed to play in this league" comments, but other than that, a well fought competition!
Ray Carpenter 1630 vs 1070 Val Gritton
Ray was behind for most of the way but a late 700 burst got him ahead and won the leg!
Jim Ashford 4860 vs 370 Anne Stokinger
A slow start, but Jim got a really well played 3k break midway to take a commanding lead. He was unlucky to peg a further 1k and could have ended up on a lot more. He made his captain proud!
Les Whiteman 2430 vs 1650 Lyn Storr
This was close all the way. It actually went down to the last ball - it being the red, but Les sunk it for a well deserved win!
Another fine night, new set of faces - apologies that they find good bar billiards play offensive, but apart from the odd comment, they were a good laugh!

I got similar comments 2 weeks ago from the same opponents H, I didn't comment on it either during the match or in my report after it, only saying that the food was the best part of the night. >:( :-X :-X

I'm sorry that you feel that it is okay for you to be critical about your opponents..... but are unable to take criticism. I don't feel that beating a beginner is a great achievement..... and certainly don't boast about it when I do. I will always try to say something positive about my opponent, even if it is only to say that they tried hard. I can take criticism like the rest - when it's justified. Who's boasting ? I would urge you once again to keep this thread uncontaminated with worthless comment - we have a banter thread and this does not even amount to 'banter', it constitutes a 'flaming' which is not allowed on this Forum.

I hope this won't be considered 'worthless comment' or banter ::)
I would like to congratulate my team on last night's performance, particularly Colleen who has had a run of particularly bad luck in recent games - good to see that the tide has turned for her 8-)

I hope this won't be considered 'worthless comment' or banter ::) Entirely relevant to this thread as it relates to what happened in last night's match ! Credit where it's due - well done to Colleen. And SpecialOne did well playing under the constraints of man flu - and also with his prediction which happened to be spot on.

Updated League Table........
Plough's defeat brings them within touch by half a point with both Hurst A and Greyhound, whilst Zed's resurgence has only improved their own margin at the bottom by a single point.
In Div 1, the Laughing Fish have grabbed back second place from St Francis.

Well, you know the result, but lets put some meat on those bones
BREWERS BRAVOS 1 C.K.R.B.L. 4
Paul Moyes-Robb:800 Ted Stringer:3390 An unwell Paul struggles to get any sort of momentum going as the balls stick two fingers up at him. Mr. Stringer scores solidly and well to get his team off to a good start.
Nikki Hinkins:1800 Dilly Williamson:2840 Nikki makes the early running in this match but Mr. Willamson makes a successsion of decent breaks to take the game out of Nikkis hands. Another defeat for us, but it was good to see Nikki play really well tonght as consolation.
Lynne Moyes-Robb: 650 Shaky Coles:3300 An excellent opening break of 2k from Mr.coles put Lynne on the back foot straight away. After that, the game became peg-tastic with both players struggling to keep their scores. In the end Mr. Coles secures the frame and match with some solid scoring.
"Spud Spurrier":1790 Pete Edwards:1990 An opportunity to post my first 5k score was blown last night. I opened up with a useful 1.4k. After Mr. Edwards pegged his reply i got the balls straight back and was on a 2.6k break when my brain failed me and pegged with a stupid shot. Confidence blown, Mr. Edwards outplayed me for the rest of the match. He sunk both remaining balls at the end to give me no chance. Dissapointed, but well played to Mr. Edwards.
XPTG:5010 Derek Taylor:2440 Captain Marvel salvages something from the evening with a decent match. He responds to Mr Taylors decent 1.4k opener with a 1.7 himself. A mid-game 2.8k from the skipper sealed the deal with an unlucky Mr. Taylor unable to get the balls back.
To be quite honest, we felt a bit deflated after tonights match. Certainly wont take anything away from our opponents, who were gracious victors and we look foward to playing them again.

Plough 1 Hurst B 4 Played on the newly acquired Plough top straight from e bay & installed on Tuesday. Des Gasson 1910 Iang 2000 I had the privilege of playing the first competitive game on this table. a extremely close game where you had to keep what you got ended in a last ball game Mark Potter 870 Darrell 1910 Darrell just kept plugging away Mark Webber 2490 Paul Jobbins 2650 These 2 always get drawn against each other again a game that was decided by the last ball Geoff Parsons 1660 Steve King 2130 the battle of giants with Steve making it 4-0 for the visitors Keith Potter 1590 Chris Kirkham 970 Keith gains the last point for the home side.
To be fair it was a learning curve for all 10 players & the table needs some time to settle down before the home team will feel comfortable on it. It is the same type of table Tarrats use & has been re clothed & cushioned, but you still have to get a leg roasting if you are drawn in the first half of the match ;D ;D ;D

One last write-up for this week's thread, courtesy of the Old Fella:
Watermill A 3, Brewers Droops 2 "Droops drop 2 places following their defeat this week away to the A team. Laser-Eyes hit a 5020 to take a closely fought first frame, ending The Farmer's unbeaten run of 8. Sir Jock put Droops back into the hunt with a win in the second but Chris Nikolaj got the lead back for the hosts after taking the third frame. All square after the next, a Fred Jones thriller, and into the decider. Big Norm to the A team's rescue, as you would expect from the skipper, and they remain on top of division 1."
