Hi everyone, assistant (to the) secretary here...

I am hoping to be able to build some bridges between the AEBBA to counties and local leagues. Although this forum is a great way of communicating bar billiards news, I still think it important to get some correspondance out to people who don't use the forum and also those who no little or nothing of our national game who just play in local leagues once a week.

If we can get some players playing in national competitions like over 50s, under 25s, mixed pairs etc and also county secretaries to organise their county sides early then it can only help the AEBBA run things more efficiently.

I am going to try to organise a monthly national newsletter (similar to the Black Peg in Worthing) which will detail a bit of tournament news, a tournament calendar, details of who to contact to enter AEBBA (and county opens) competitions.

This will not replace the AEBBA website which has become a full results service, but will simply be limited to both sides of one sheet of A4 paper. I can email this out to anyone who wants it every month, I would also like to email/ post to all county/ league secretaries and I am also prepared to post it to anyone who does not have email access. Hopefully these people who receive the letter can distribute within their leagues, stick one up in their pub and maybe we can get the word round of our national game out to a few more people.

So what I need from you is contact details for all leagues that are currently still active. I believe that to be the following the following leagues. If anyone can PM me contact details I would be grateful and I can build a database of contacts, which will also be of course helpful when orgainising the Autumn AEBBA competitions.

Anything which helps promote the game deserves to prosper.

I would like to see calendar dates (ie tournament dates), tournament news including best performances not just winners.

Totally agree, a great idea.

We have to promote our sport by any means possible.

Although we dont (currently) have a league down here in Cornwall I would like to be added to your (e)mailing list.
I will post these newsletters at our venue and see what response I can get, I have recently found out that another 3 of our locals used to play regular, and I'm trying to encourage them to play again (we now have 5 players... a team ;D we just dont have any opposition)

Great idea, can you add [e-mail] to the list.

Hopefully this will start to push the game in England the same as Guernsey.

This time last year we had tables in 5 venues and 7 teams.

By getting out and about and encouraging other committee members to talk to pubs and clubs we now have 8 teams, and tables in 8 venues (5 being used for league games) with a possible 2 new venues early in January.

It seems that when people know that the game is still played and tables are availiable to go into their pub/club they will give it a try.

2 of the new venues have always been pool only but with tables in they are talking about a possible 2 or 3 teams next season.

By promoting the sport around the pool players you may be able to encourage new/old players into the game.

Great concept, Nigel.

As usual I can act as a link to Surrey/Redhill for anything expedient.

But if you are creating it electronically, the most sensible thing would appear to be to send it to the email address of Caroline Jones who could then add it to the RDBBL website (which everyone logs into to check their Competition Draws etc).

I would imagine that every league that runs a website would also accommodate a regular official AEBBA news bulletin in like manner.

It's always a good idea to promote Bar Billiards, be it Local or National, but in our league some are very blinkered regarding anything other than the Oxford League.

Nigel, if you Email myself & Pauline we will make sure it gets passed on to all teams in our league with my Monthly Magazine that I do.

Thank you everone for their responses so far. Rest assured I have not forgotten about this and I am assembling the first newsletter. Given it further thought I will probably make it a bi-monthly thing. I should have the first one ready for Bournemouth where I will bring some copies as well as emailing them beforehand to those that have asked me to.

It was pointed out to me last night by the landlord of my 'local' that the acronym for All England Bar Billiards Association should be AEBBA and not AEEBA as stated on the newsletter.

The County Secretary for Northants continues to be Steve Foster for 2012/13. Steve does not use the forum so you would be better routing queries through either myself, Stephen Coleman or Simon Coleman as you see fit.

I believe we have paid our 2013 fees, however, as they were given at he AGM.
