The Sussex Comps are arriving fast (10th/ 11th Jan). We have a problem in that Tarratts can only provide 3 tables, plus the Hurst table that makes 4.
Ideally we want 6 tables so are looking for 2 more. I think the best solution is to get 2 tables from people who have their own ones at home and are happy to loan them out for the weekend. I have one available but transportation is a problem for me. It would be better I guess if anyone closer to the venue has a table available for that weekend.
Has anyone any ideas/ solutions. If we have to make do with 4 tables I guess we will have to, but it obviously creates issues with players playing the same table twice, and earlier start/ finish times.
Thanks on adavnce for any help offered.

Obvious solution would be to 'borrow' Richard's one out of the Clayton and Keymer RBL and Ros's one out of the Sportsman.
The Sportsman is just a mile up the road from Hurstpierpoint and the CKRBL is based at Hassocks which is the next village along to the east.

The downside to that Tommo, assuming both are available, is that they are Jelkes so we would end up with 4 Sams & 2 Jelkes which might throw some players who are not familiar with them, but still a sensible option :)
However transport and willing hands, for any extra tables, will be a problem :-/

Obvious solution would be to scrap the one day Sussex comps and change them back to drawn games in rounds in pubs round the county.
Then I would enter the comps again.
Oh....... and make them off the spot and ban the split.
Goodnight
;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the replies so far. The Sportsman make sense if it is just a mile away from the hurst. (Dave, don't know if you could have a word with Ros, as you are a teammate), If we tables in on Friday, I should be able to help as I am sure I will be setting up the tables Friday night.
I am not worried about the differing makes of tables on the day. I will be happy just to have 6 tables in there. The players will just have to show some versatility!

Agree that with time a' ticking, Ros needs to be contacted, as Plan A rests on her assent. I believe that Tony Driver also bought a table last year and has stored it in his barn. He lives in Bolney. Assuming it can be set up and levelled okay it may negate the need for the Clayton & Keymer one.

Know Sussex are used to Tarratt tables, so hopefully helpful comment
Don't forget to move the tables with the slates on their edge, not flat on their back.
Also whoever dismantles the Jelkes tables knows how to do it without risking damaging the leg joints.

Nige, have spoken to Ros about this today. She would normally be more than happy for the table to be used, but is concerned that we have a Lewes League match at home on the Monday night and that would not give the table time to settle again as the Sportsman has a wooden floor which tends to sink slightly when the table is there which does make it very hard to level it if it gets moved. :-/ I know that she would therefore prefer it for a table to be used from elsewhere...... could Tarratts not get one of theirs from a local pub (I know that both the Watermill (Burgess Hill) and White Horse (Ditchling) for the weekend which are both reasonably good? Alternatively, does Richard W have any spare tables? ???

Yes, sorry to be unhelpful, if we had until Weds for the first home match we could cope. But as David says, the table tends to settle down on the wooden floor at the Sportsman, and IMHO we will not have enough time to get it levelled reliably for our Monday night match. Rearranging our Monday night fixture would create further nightmares in an already jammed up calendar. To compound matters, we might have to play a Charity Mid Sussex match on the Sunday night, against Clayton and Keymer at Clayton and Keymer. We have to have this played by 21st Jan (and the oldfella is insisting that both teams will lose the points if it isn't played by the deadline) - with functions at the club, interleague nights and league commitments of the two teams, Sunday 11th is looking like the only night left. So that not only takes away any potential re-setting up time at the Sportsman, but also means that we would need the Clayton and Keymer table to be at the club playing reasonably on Sunday night. I'll try to get hold of Jenny later to see what can be arranged. Tony does indeed have a normal sized Sams in a converted stable (with a clock) I have only ever played a few shots on it when I checked it for Tony before he bought it, but I imagine it could be set up to play quite nicely, especially if it arrived at the club early on Friday to give some warming up time. Q is quite right though, Tony is in Balcombe, but he does have a van. Here is the link to the post I made (with photos) when Tony bought the table: www.barbilliards.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=12Somebody would need to check that the pockets are ok and legal though.

I may be able to persuade the Haywards Heath United Services Club to allow it's table to be used, provided it can be transported by others and is no further than the Watermill or White Horse and could easily be collected on the same run.
I would also need to check that there aren't any competition games booked.
Please let me know ASAP if it's required.

Hi
The CKRBL table is not to be moved from where it is.
Nobody has contacted me or Marcus to discuss this matter.
I have a table at my house which is a Jelkes but I am not sure how it will play.
We also have another spare but may not have time to get it ready so Looks like we will not be much help.
How about Tony Webster ?

I have been asked to remind the Chairman on Monday so cannot expect answer before then. Table has not been booked yet for Fri 9th to Mon 12th dates and have left notification of probable removal with some Bar staff but cannot guarantee they will all become aware. Captain and several team mates have been warned.

Assuming that Sparky can get the table from USC in Haywards Heath, that would then give us the 6 tables we need. If not, then SirKT & Lady H have said that we could borrow their table from home. 8-)

Thanks very much for your offer Dave, and will accept any help offered on the Friday, as will need to get up to the Hurst Club to try and get all tables playing as well as possible. I am happy to offer my table for the weekend, but it does need a timer, I will check if anyone has a spare but games can be timed by watch if necessary
As Tony says we are meeting up tomorrow and doing the draws, and we will discuss what we are doing about the tables. Thanks to KT for his offer also I will get a chance to speak to him at inter league on Sunday.

The table that used to be in the Firemans Arms is at Buxted - dismantled and not used since it was taken out of the pub. Chris would be prepared to lend it for the weekend as he is thinking of selling it anyway. Someone would have to be able to provide transport to pick it up and return it though.

Sorry for the delay but it turns out that the USC secretary does things properly and checked with Tarrat's, who said it was OK for the table to be used, which the Chairman has relayed to me.
When asked I said that I thought the table would be collected Friday afternoon, or early evening, and returned on the Monday. The Club opens at 11am (doesn't close until late) but entry can be gained earlier by a telephone call or possibly even a knock on the side door...please ring me for info.
If you do not need to use the United Services table please let me know ASAP as I have been making arrangements to try and stop others from booking the table for neutral games and explaining to the other members why they will not be able able to play this weekend.

The HH USC chairman has offered the club's function room for any competitions that need a venue, especially the county championships.
This is a realistic venue with bar and toilets 'en suite' and 2 good lounge bars downstairs, cheap booze and arrangements can be made for food.

We have now one table for definite - Marc is taking the Romans table up on Friday night.
The 2nd one it seems will be is the United Services table - have we a definite on who is picking it up.
I will try and meet up with one of the parties taking the table on Friday to help set them up at the Hurst.
