I beat Dave Anscombe 2-1 in the Lower Div singles tonight.
This was played at the Swan, by mutual agreement, because we heard the Coach House might not be available.
A night when the back of the table was a little challenging.
Dave lost the toss, I put him in first, he went off well, I never managed to get the break back, don't know exact scores, but something like 3.5k to 1k
Second game, I was off early, but Dave didn't capitalise, neck and neck for a long time, then Dave left me with a white ball by the 50 and another white behind the 10, I chose to play 'off the cush' into the 50 to avoid playing the awkward ball, staying on it for about 2k, again final score was about 3.5k to 1k
Dave put me in first in the last, I opened with about 2.2k, Dave replied with 1.3k, some messing around at the back, then Dave was first to get the break back, moving ahead by about 700, I managed to get the break back with about 4 minutes to go and pulled ahead to a point where I couldn't be caught. 4.8k to 3.5k
Thanks to Sir T for scoring and to Dave for a some good games and to the Swan for their hospitality. The evening finished off with some good yarning about times past and players we had known. 8-)

Many thanks to Phil Oakley for scoring and Chris Richards for her support - for both pairs! ;)
Enjoyable match in very good company...... unfortunately we had to dash away straight after the game to play another match but we look forward to seeing them all down at Bournemouth! ;D

Old codgers TJ beat Mick 2-1 in a great battle at the Henty. Mick opened with 6.8k in first, I got balls back played table out fell 300 short. Both mucked about in second ( maybe the rugby on the large screen ) but I got going at end to knock in 5k to level. Mick kicked off decider and going well until rimming 100 hole and taking peg at 6.5k. I played to 6.9k and touched, then time to add another 2k at end.

Eveerything went pear shaped last night in the doubles matches :-/
Firstly, Ian & myself lost 2-1 to Brian & Roger at the Henty. The table did some funny things just when you got comfortable, a thin split here, thick split there :( Ian`s 5k break mid way through the first was enough to take the lead and he was on early in the second after Brian had slipped up, but could only manage about 1,500. Roger then made a good 10k to level the match. Both myself & Roger couldn`t stay on in the last and it was nip and tuck until Brian established a 2,500 lead. Although i got them back, there was only a minute and a half to catch up, but broke down anyway. Well done guys.
On to the Marquis, where Lady H & myself were playing Doug & Denise. In the first, Doug opened up with about 2k. I got them back and touched on at about 8k. Game two saw the girls have a go, Hayley with about 600 and Denise 1,300. I cleared the balls first and set a 5,300 lead then missed a straight pot. Doug had just enough time and stayed on to win by 400. Doug went first in the third and went off with just under 12k. I set about the chase, put another coin in after about 4k and looked to be ok for the target only to miss a 20 split and come off up the table on the next go :-/
Well played Doug, perhaps you should split more often ;)

Semi final draws were made last night at BWMC. LADIES SINGLES C.Park v G.Sherratt Colleen beat Gina 2-1 at the Stadium tonight. :o ;D First couple of games were pretty close low-scoring games with both players finding the table tricky...... :-/ Into the decider..... Colleen opened with 1.3k, Gina replied with just under 1k. The game went to the back of the table for a while and then Colleen got the break back and ran in a very well built 2k. Gina managed to get the break back but couldn't keep it going with Colleen running out the winner by 4.5k to 2.5k. ;) Many thanks to Charlie for sharing the scoring duties, with an enjoyable couple of games played at the Windmill afterwards. 8-)

Good to see that the confidence that may have been lacking at the start of the season is there now and there's no limit to what you can achieve from now on. 8-)

LADIES DOUBLES H.Tunstall/A.Iles v G.Sherratt/C.Park @ the Duke of Wellington This match is being played on Friday 27th March, 7.30pm start. ;) Lady H & Anna beat Gina & Colleen 2-0 at the Duke tonight. First game very close, Hayley made a good break only for Colleen to reply towards the end of the game and take a narrow lead. Gina cleared most of the balls but missed the 100, Lady H made no mistake in potting the last ball in the 200 hole to win the game. Second game and Lady H opened with 3k plus, Gina & Colleen had chances but couldn't close the gap. Many thanks to SirKT for sharing the scoring duties.... 8-) ..... good luck to Hayley & Anna in the final. ;)

Semi final draws were made last night at BWMC. MIXED DOUBLES Doug & Denise Mahy v D.Ingram/C.Park @ the Henty Due to be played on Monday 6th April at 6.00pm. ;) Doug & Denise beat Colleen & I 2-0 at the Henty tonight. Doug knocked in a couple of steady 5k+ breaks and, although Colleen played well to keep us in with a chance..... my poor run of form continued and I was simply awful. :-[ Well played to Doug & Denise, good luck in the Final. ;)

Dave Anscombe and Bob Thomas beat Ros Appleby and Rob Driver 2 - 0 at the Swan tonight.
First game saw Ros break off with only 600. I got the break back and added a 1K+ break. Bob and me then scored regularly to keep ahead and take the first game. Rob, unfortunately, lost a 500+ break which could have made difference to the result of the first game.
The second game started just like the first but in reverse. Bob and myself were behind with only a few minutes left when I got the the break back to play the bar out with a 2K+ break for a 2-0 win.

I beat Dave Nicholls 2 - 1 at the Horseshoes tonight in the Lower Div singles.
All three games were anybody's.
The first (Dave's break) he had me beaten until I got the break back with just a few minutes to go, leaving Dave needing the 200 shot with the red ball to win, unfortunately he left it short and I put it away.
The second, I was off early after playing a one up too thin, the game got very scrappy, but Dave brought a ball back to the front of the fifty hole at the end to make a 500 break which was enough to win.
Dave lost his opening break in the third, I didn't capitalise scoring just 650. After a fair amount of messing around at the back, I got the balls back to score 3.2, leaving Dave to chase nearly 4k in just about 4 minutes. He got the break back and scored a great 2.5k speed break, but in the end hit a 50 shot too soft to let me back on. Best game of the three, 4.8 played 2.9.

Result from the sole outstanding semi-final:
Mark James & Tony Lewis bt Kevin Hall & Chris Lawman 2-1
A scrappy game on a very challenging Schooner table culminated with Chris Lawman black-pegging a last ball 200 shot which would have won the deciding leg, with the scores at 2440 - 2260 (yes, it was that good!).
