Swan 2 - 3 Stadium
The "Old Firm" served up another tense, exciting match, this fixture rarely produces anything else. Only one game (the last) went with the break all evening.
Game 1 - Martin Smith v Roger Taylor. Martin, fresh from a 10k break in interleague on the same table on Monday, opened with 1700. Roger got it straight back, but broke down before catching this. Martin had a further break, which left him approx. 3½k in front, but crucially he came off the table within sight of the finish line, and Roger was left with enough time to overhaul him, which he did. 1-0
Game 2 - Phil Oakley was sent on with the break for the Swan, Stadium skipper Ian Lelliott stepped forward to take him on. Phil missed a ball behind the 30 hole to lose his opening break, Ian failed to retrieve first time, but did on his second visit. His first break shot was a wild slash that left the red on the side cushion, but he recovered, and made enough to win at that visit. 1-1
Game 3 - Geoff Jukes has struggled for form all season, and he was only able to open with 600 v Barry Holt. Barry got the break back immediately, but left a split short on 1600. Geoff moved the ball in front of the 100 hole, but left it for Barry, who put the game away at his next visit. Barry's astonishing record of NEVER having lost in this fixture continues. 2-1
Game 4 - Doug Mahy v Mark James. Doug had the break with both of his first two visits, but amassed only 2700 in so doing. Your reporter got it back at second attempt, and made a 7k break to win the game, though this was not accomplished without a couple of uncharacteristically exciting moments. 2-2
Game 5 - For the decider Grant Tully played Matt Squire. Grant made a fine opening 6600 to put Matt under immediate pressure, he failed to get the break back from a difficult leave, and Grant did so, effectively end of game. 2-3
Prior to this set of fixtures, with 4 matches left as many as 4 teams could have won the league. This result surely eliminates the Swan from contention, although they will still have a big say in the destiny of the title. For the Stadium, next week sees them at home v another contender, Three Horsehoes (KT et al), in what will be a must-win game for both teams.

Three Horseshoes 3 Dolphin A 2
A bit like the previous match, where only one game went with the break.
Kt 8380 S.Wood 2610 D.Hampton 1230 J.Over 4300 R.Dewdney 11590 C.Richards 750 K.Hall 3710 C.Retfalvi 910 S.Mepham 2230 A.Brackenridge 4970
Everyone except Ricky seemed to struggle a bit with the table. When i arrived in the pub on Wednesday, i discovered the table had been moved, apparently by some Morons in the afternoon unbeknown to the Landlord, so had to do a quick reset. I think after a day to settle, that`s what caused the slight change and made it play a little different to the night before.

Duke of Wellington 3 - 2 Windmill A
We were not on top form but capatain Chris clinched the valuable points for the Duke to keep them at the top.
Game 1 - Gina broke off against Glenn but left the one up short early doors. Gina got the balls back again and did the same thing and only only built up a 1,000 lead. Glenn kept failing to retreive the balls and another break by Gina put her 3,500 up. Finally Glenn got the break back and looked good until he missed a split on 4,500. It cost him dear as Gina knocked in a winning break to win by about 1,000. 0-1
Game 2 - Richard Wooton never really settled and offered Edge Butler plenty of opportunities but a 4k score was enough to level the match 1-1.
Game 3 - The best game of the night involved me and Charlie Cooper. Charlie played the table as well as anyone all season and kicked off with 8k offering me a small chance with about 8.5 minutes left. However, I chased 1 ball around eventually leaving 2 up and Charlie made another 2k, to lead by 10k. I got the break back and made 6k by the end. 1-2
Game 4 - Tupps was solid enough against Colin Honeysett and set up the decider 2-2
Game 5 - Mick Pope set off in his usual style and we though things were definitely going against us when a 50-10 split whipped the red and the white whipped the 10 hole, the 20 hole and fell into the 100. Mick made 2k off his opener and Chris retreived the balls back only to miss a split about 100 in front. However iChris was next back on the break and the 6k break bought home the bacon. 3-2
