I know i am being exceptioallny sad here, but everytime I log on i seem to have lost a lovely star on my rating and my status has changed from "apprentice member" to something else. Not losing much sleep but could someone tell me what is going on?

Hi,
I'm amazed anyone noticed!
Yes I've tried to emphasise the staff rankings by differentiating from the normal (and appreciated) members.
This is to make sure members realise the authority given to staff members to moderate on this forum. I want everyone to appreciate that moderators act with full authority of the board directors.
This meant that I have cut down slightly the number of ranks for normal members to avoid too many stars and confusion with staff rankings (bigger and more stars).
I'll publish the rankings below as I have to log out and log in as 'Board Owner' to copy them. This I do not normally do, preferring to log in as myself.
Full marks for observation!
Sav.

New Rankings
0 forum beginner 10 forum learner 100 Full forum member 500 Distinguished member 1000 Apprentice master 2500 Forum master 5000 Distinguished master 10000 Forum legend
I have dropped apprentice member for 10 - 25 (I think) posts
One small star per rank
Staff 6 large stars Global Mod 7 large stars Board Director 8 large stars
Board Owner (old Chubbster account) is not used as it is a one-off account and cannot be used by a group. It has to be kept as the account has group modification powers that cannot be assigned to the Board Director group
Leaves a little room for fine tuning.

Just to add further to Sav's comment, in your case it shouldn't be too much to bear to wait till you have made 100 posts, Spud, as then you become a 'Full Forum Member' - as you would have before.
Also, it is nicer now for the people who haven't quite made it to 50, as they are no longer a Forum Learner (unless they've made less than 10).

I think you've read it wrong Clive, members are still 'forum learners' on 99 posts.
Sorry Clive, just checked and they're actually 'junior forum members' (wouldn't mind being a junior again), Sav's listing on this thread is wrong 8-)

Must admit that is a bit high :-/
99 posts is quite a lot to get "used" to the forum.
