Hi everyone Phil Hawkins asked me the other day to find out what everybody who will be playing in Reading in the forthcoming period, exactly what they want for refreshments (meals etc). The lady that does the food despairs when she has done plenty of food, but then doesn`t sell it all. Her profit margin is quite low and is thinking of stopping the hot food all together.
It has been noticed that people are still taking their own food into the hall when there is a menu to choose from. This has to STOP ! If you want your own food, then please eat it outside.
Give us some ideas as to what you all want :)
Thankyou

Hi Kevin
Appreciate what you have said and agree...
can I just add though that at other competitions food is available for most of the day and people don't always want to eat at set times, although I don't expect the club to do that, it does play a part as to whether you eat or not.
Not that this is probably very helpful, just something to consider as well.
Regards Chris

Something without chips (a curry or chilli with rice) would have been a nice option or even bacon & sausage sarnies, which are available at almost all of the Opens throughout the year.
A wider time slot than just 2 hours to be able fit in something to eat without having to rush it would have been better as well, I did manage to fit in a very nice pie & chips today...... but having just played and scored successive games, I only then had less than 30 minutes in which to order, wait for and then eat the food before my next game. ::)
I appreciate that people need to support the caterers at these events to make it worth their while to provide the food, however the caterers also have to be able to provide a wider range of food and to be more flexible with their times....... :P
I think that Colin Robbins, who provided food (all day) at the Surrey & Sussex Opens this year, did a fantastic job at those and was well supported as a result of that by people at those events..... possibly he should be approached to see if he would be willing to provide the catering at other venues? ;D

For someone who lives fairly close to the venue, having food only available 12-2 is not really ideal, when the tournament only starts at 12. This is because i have only had something to eat before i leave home. If they only have a 3 hr window to do food, then starting at 2pm or 3pm would be much better

Sorry but I am getting a little confused. This thread started by warning us about not taking your own food in to the main hall in Reading?? However, I have just spoken to someone who has just returned from Sunday's event and they said that there was little food available?? Does this now mean we are free to do our own thing??
Would appreciate an accurate assessment of the curreant situation.
Thanks,
Keith

I never eat the food there, have a good fry up along the road when you get there and it sets me up for the day......i'm not saying here's anything wrong with the grub there at the PO club..........I don't like the place as it is.......windowless.......no where hardly to sit and eat anyway......not allowed in the club..........Give me Harwell any day 8-)
Keith.take your own food and eat outside in the car?

At best, the food there on Sunday could have been described as "snacks"...... some french bread rolls or (luke) warm pasties or pies, was almost sorry to see no chips and sadly no alternatives such as curry, chilli etc. ::) :'(
Disappointing, after being specifically asked not to take food and being told that meals would be available. :-X
Colemanators suggestion of the cafe at the end of the road would certainly have been a much better option.... sadly we didn't have time for that on this occasion, but will certainly go there next time. ::)

But he won't be pushing himself forward, and will only take it on if specially requested to do so.

I request that Colin Robbins takes on the food for next year.
His food is reasonably priced. Good and with a variety.
