13 confirmed now, sadly Graham Bisson wanted to come but found the cost of flying at this late stage was a bit pricy and has had to turn down his place.
Could Chris Toner & Jean Brackenridge let me know if they would like to take places in the Grand Prix or the ladies in the event of any more drop outs as they are now the next two reserves. I suspect you will play in the ladies even if there are more drop outs but I would be grateful if you could just confirm this.

I'm sorry but it's moan time again!!
Would it be possible for players in each group to all play on the same tables, as it is unfair when it goes on agg scores to decide a group winner if some players play on a 20,000 possible table and others play on a table that you can only get 5,000 on, if you're lucky, as was the case yesterday on a couple of the tables in the Mixed Pairs. I'm sure that this was how it was done when the Grand Prix first started years ago.
I know Phil gives his valuable time to setting these tables up and didn't even take part yesterday, but as has been said before these tables are just not playing up to standard for one reason or another.
It was the same old story yesterday that you had to get perfect pace to get anywhere near the break, as it would come inside the R/H 50 hole, on at least 3 of the tables yesterday, this is not good enough.
One of the tables was not helped by having the D spot positioned slightly to the left on the D, this means that you need a lot more left hand side on to get the break and not by power because it made it worse yesterday by having bouncy cushions on a couple of tables.
So what do we do about it?
As I said to Phil yesterday, I think the tables should be ironed on each tournament, as they are never ironed anymore and also extend the distance between the D spot and the red ball spot, as this will definitely make the break easier, I'm sure we haven't got the spots to the maximum they are allowed in the All England rules which is 6 & 3/4in's to 7 & 1/16in's. (Stupid measurements that need changing)
Keith.

Hi Keith, don't forget the Grand Prix was knockout for many years before we went to groups format (only about 5 years ago)
The format I have done (and used since I was TD) puts players from the same group on the same table for the first two matches, but the last games are all played at the same time so need to be on different tables. Although the ladies do play different tables all the way through.
I guess the format could be fiddled with to meet your request, but you would have the final matches of each group played whilst others had finished, and I think knowing exactly what you have to do to qualify is a bigger advantage than a better or worse table - but that is a matter of opinion. For instance when I played in my group a couple of years ago I had to run the table out in my last game in the hope it would be enough - had I already seen the other result of the other game in my group I could have touched up a lot earlier. I also once played my final match early to make way for an over 60 match because Tony Matin was in both and that definitely affected the way the other group game was played between Leon Beer and Phil Collins as they both knew exactly what they needed to do to win the group.
There is no perfect format, if anyone has one let me have it! However I would say the bottom line is if you win all your games you are guaranteed progress through the competition - if you are relying on aggregate scores that means you must have lost a match in the competition so I don't think you can really cry out bad luck if your aggregate is not enough even if you played on a tough top at the end.
I think the format we have used the last few years for the Grand Prix is the best we can do, considering the over 50 and over 60s all have to fit in as well. And I better warn you don't expect an early finish with the final due to start at 7.45 next week!
For what it is worth I agree with your comment re the tables, they need ironing and the holes need polishing, they can play really well, as proved in some of the tournaments this year.

Point taken Nige, leave it as it is.
I think the best way is for whoever sets the tables up to make sure that ALL the tables are up to a reasonable standard, I sometimes wonder if some of them have been set up deliberately to play difficult because as I've said before it doesn't take much to prepare an easy break table!!
Thanks Nigel for the bad news about the late finish again. :( I will have to deliberately lose again, like we did on Sunday. ::) ;)
I will be having Monday off with a bit of luck, if someone can do my round for me. :)

Congratulations to Curt Driver for his victory, beating Steven Sheard in the Final at Reading today. ;D
Curt and Steven had beaten Paul Sainsbury and Gareth Lloyd in their respective semi-finals....... Keith Sheard won the highest break with a 21,300, Phil Collins and Paul Sainsbury both also hit 20k+ breaks during the course of the day in some high scoring games. ;)
Many thanks to Dave Alder and his team of helpers for their hard work which gave us all another great day..... ;D

Congratulations to all players today for excellent bar billiards, and to those who won the respective competitions, and also those who came close, but missed out to those who grabbed the spoils. Well done to the Secretary, Dave Alder, and the rest of his helpers for the excellent organisation during the day.
